There are already "Prefer:" settings for ffmpeg, which makes it safe for most

Does it really need to be version 2.1? The pkg used to exist, but was dropped 
in 2017 because it is unmaintained, and likely failed to build at that time.

It used to be in prj Essentials. I think it is not essential, even if it might 
be important to have for you.

It seems there are further changes in the Debian package.  I think you should 
start from this last state, and see how to fix it for current Leap. In case an 
old version is really required, it needs extra care for the old ffmpeg and 
x264, to avoid conflicts with other versions of the same pkg.

Yes.

The previously used release string pmNNN.something was working as expected
with the recommended 'zypper dup --from packman --allow-vendor-change'.
During upgrade from one Leap 15 version to another the packages appear
as newer, everything was replaced (with zypper dup --no-allow-vendor-change).

But it turned out an update for a linked package will lead to conflicts
because a number is newer than a word (150NNN > pmNNN), see bug#1205456.

After some back and forth, the currently used release string is supposed to
also handle updates of linked packages properly.

A slightly related anecdote:

Recently I had to deploy a VM which runs git-daemon.service.
No matter how many GB of memory I assigned to the VM, git-daemon was terminated 
due to OOM.

It turned out, this drop-in for git-daemon.service was required in this 
environment:

IOSchedulingClass=idle
CPUSchedulingPolicy=batch
MemoryLow=1000M
MemoryHigh=2000M
MemoryMax=2048M

I think without such resource restrictions, the process never got ENOMEM from 
malloc, and had to assume unlimited resources are available. I think with these 
restrictions, malloc will return an error, and apparently git is smart enough 
to work with whatever amount of memory it is allowed to use.


Under the assumption that gcc is equally smart to deal with ENOMEM, someone has 
to workout what these systemd knobs actually do to the spawned processes. Then 
the same needs to be done in the OBS build script, so that each child process 
of the build script gets proper errors from malloc.

I think this is the correct way to deal with it.

If a single spec file exists, the name of the pkg container does not matter.

If more than one spec file exists, one must be named like the pkg container.
In case no spec file matches the name of the pkg container, remove the unneeded

Please have a look what is done in kodi.git.

Typically software does some sort of `pkgconfig --exists 'string[ >= version]'` 
to decide if required (or optional) functionality is available in the build 
environment. If this is the case for samba, use 'BuildRequires: 
pkgconfig(string) [>= version]' in spec files. Hard rpm package names will 
cause trouble if packages are renamed.

What I meant is a layout like this:
The gstreamer-plugins-bad pkg container continues to have a 
gstreamer-plugins-bad.spec, but it will get another spec file, like 
gstreamer-plugins-bad-nonfree.spec, the exact name does not matter.

The OBS scheduler will continue to use gstreamer-plugins-bad.spec because this 
spec file is named like the pkg container. The new spec file will be ignored.

In case the pkg container has some other name, and contains a _link to another 
gstreamer-plugins-bad pkg container, then multiple spec files exist and OBS 
will refuse to build. This has to be addressed with  in the _link file. As a result just a single spec file 
will remain and OBS will start to build this pkg container.

In case the new spec file needs to go into its own pkg container, package just 
a %license to get a non-empty rpm.

Independent from where the spec file is stored: Every controversial module will 
be build based on %bcond conditionals just like it is done today. Everything 
else will be disabled. It is up to you to wrap everything into a big 
"BUILD_ORIG" or into individual existing conditionals like "aac", "faac", 
"x265". They are listed in prjconf.

In pmbs a pkg container will _link to the OBS sources and build binaries with 
these controversial modules. OBS will build just gstreamer-plugins-bad, users 
have to switch vendor back to OBS once. They may not get these controversial 
modules by default.

But, gstreamer-plugins-bad.spec could require the "empty" 
gstreamer-plugins-bad-nonfree package. Then a zypper dup should be able to 
install the non-empty gstreamer-plugins-bad-nonfree package.

I think it may make maintenance of gstreamer easier if all package sources come 
from OBS, due to the version constraints in the spec files.


I think the "zypper dup" with vendor change to packman will remain until each 
and every package from OBS uses some sort of dlopen to load controversial 
binaries.

If gstreamer is really modular, remove all conditionals from 
gstreamer-plugins-bad/ugly and split the problematic parts into a separate 
specfile. This new package should be maintained also in OBS to give the

build. They need to be installed manually.

If an expanded package name is requested, there will be a conflict due to exact 
%version-%release Requires in the devel package.
Hence the established practice to refer to capabilities via pkgconfig() instead 
of ever-changing package names.

Since this package is fully rebuilt anyway there is zero downside in using 
pkgconfig().

This will lead to a conflict because both provide the same API, and hopefully 
even the same ABI due to identical SONAME.

Any issue with upstream vlc.git#master should be reported directly on the 
upstream vlc devel mailing list.

The vlc-beta package was created a couple of years ago to track the upcoming 
vlc 3 release.
Today it is just a fun project which tracks vlc.git#master, which may become a 
vlc 4.0 release at some point.

In theory there should be just a single kodi.spec, the other subpackages are a 
thing from the past decade. They have no meaning anymore, for raspberry anyway.

However, they currently serve as a workaround to actually be able to build kodi 
on non-x86. On x86 a _constraint file is required to request a worker with 
enough diskspace.

Such _constraint works only if the build is done within a VM. Since the arm 
workers use a chroot for building the _constraint file has the effect that no 
build can start because this feature is not supported for chroot builds.

To work around this limitation of the buildservice, kodi-noX-raspberry-pi/_link 
deletes the _constraint file and all other spec files to fool the buildservice.

Unfortunately, upstream arm support is broken, the build fails anyway after a 
day or two because the arm specific code is not ready for a generic arm target. 
I think the aarch64 build fails too for some reason.

So in the end, try to fix and build it yourself, or ask upstream to fix arm 
support.

This is a bug in OBS.

Why would the publisher produce a "openSUSE_Leap_15.3" and a 
"openSUSE_Leap_15.3_debug" directory, like it is done in another unrelated prj 
just for 15.3:

The same happens in PMBS, which confuses its publishing process. There is

So far such line was never required, the Update prj inherits the "GA" prj by 
itself.

But, there was indeed a need for extra  in 15.2, the entry for 
openSUSE_Leap_15.2 was updated just recently to workaround issues with the OBS 
"standard" and "ports" repositories. I was told such workaround was not needed 
for 15.3, simply because it has no "ports" repository.

Regarding crystalhd, I think that dependency can just be removed. It seems to 
cover some cornercase hardware.

The publisher may need adjustments, perhaps it has a fixed list of 
architectures.

It also means all 'openSUSE_Factory_ARM' *.repo files out there become invalid. 
The published directory may stay on the mirrors, unless someone removes it 
manually and the mirrors pickup this change.

A number of pkg's may need adjustment in case they have special handling for a 
'openSUSE_Factory_ARM' repository, but not for 'openSUSE_Tumbleweed' or 
'arch='. Each one should probably be reevaluated if such knob is still 
justified.

I removed a couple of stale conditionals now. 'ffmpeg' was still set to 'with'. 
I thought I had removed it already in the past, but apparently not.

In discord.spec 'bcond_with' is used, which means it is disabled per default. 
Since nothing sets 'ffmpeg', all '%{without ffmpeg}' branches are taken.

Such event is typically handled like this:

- run 'journalctl -b', scroll to the end and see if systemd reported a 
successful coredump. If it failed to do so, there is nothing anyone can do 
about the crash.
- run 'coredumpctl list', look for the reported PID from 'journalctl' output
- run 'coredumpctl gdb $PID' to let gdb inspect the core file
- gdb will most likely report missing debuginfo packages, it prints a list of 
missing packages, along with the 'zypper install ...' command.
- quit gdb with the 'quit' commmand
- run this zypper command to install the required debuginfo packages
- run again 'coredumpctl gdb $PID'
- run 'bt' to get a rough understanding about the crash.
- post this 'bt' output here for further assistance.

I think what you meant to say was that Discord.exe can not be published in OBS 
because it has (at least) x264 support compiled into the binaries. It could

[packman] changes in the SLE_12 repository

The repository 'SLE_12' changed the base from SLE12-SP4 to SLE12-SP5.

Furthermore the packages for the repository 'SLE_12' will be built in a new 
project 'SLE12' instead of usual 'Essentials/Multimedia/Extra/Games' projects. 
The individual pkgs will get their sources now mostly from Leap15.2 instead of 
Tumbleweed. This means a version downgrade for a few number of pkgs, see below. 
In case this is an issue for anyone, the easiest way to restore the version is 
to submit from Tumbleweed to 15.2 in OBS.

While doing the move, only 269 out of previously 651 published pkgs will 
remain. The list of dropped packages is based on a very subjective decision of 
mine. Let me know if actively used packages suddenly appear in the 'zypper 
packages --orphaned' output on your SLE_12 system.

The following 26 packages were downgraded during the move (as of 2020-02-02):
J7Z was downgraded from version 1.4.2 to 1.4.1
audacious was downgraded from version 3.10.1 to 3.9
audacious-plugins was downgraded from version 3.10.1 to 3.9
exfat-utils was downgraded from version 1.3.0 to 1.2.8
ffnvcodec was downgraded from version 9.1.23.0 to 8.2.15.7

Passwörter von und für mailman sind bestimmt aus der Kategorie Wegwerf-Passwort.
Falls dieses Passwort auch für andere Anbieter verwendet wird: In den 
Einstellungen der Liste lassen sich die monatlichen Erinnerungen deaktivieren.

It is not entirely clear why QMPlay2 is in packman at all.

I suggest to submit the version from Tumbleweed to Leap as an update in OBS.

Once a new Tumbleweed snapshot becomes visible, packman can start a rebuild 
against this new snapshot. Building, publishing, signing and mirroring will 
take a while. No matter how many resources we throw at it, there will always be 
a visible timeframe with inconsistencies.

Sure. Someone has to step up and correct these packages.
At least devede fails to build since a very long time.
There are a few other packages of that sort.
They require package names that do not exist anymore.
I think someone has to wade through the affected packages and replace
the expected executable names with the ones that do exist today, and
also adjust the Requires/BuildRequires accordingly.

Weil im OBS ein neues, innovatives Feature eingebaut oder benutzt wurde mit dem 
sämtliche Pakete deaktiviert werden. Ich habe gstreamer-plugins-libav für i586 
aktiviert. Vermutlich wird es auch funktionieren.

Die kdenlive Version aus Factory baut nicht in 15.0 weil sie 'rttr' benötigt.

At least I did not know that mii-tool is still a thing in 2019.
I would expect ethtool to do the task.

Unless some volunteer wants to upgrade the pkg in Extra/mii-tool, I
suggest to create an account in PMBS, request maintainer ship for that
pkg via 'osc reqms Extra/mii-tool' and adjust that package as needed.

vlc-vdpau.rpm has no extra dependencies, it requires just the plain 
vlc-3.0.6.rpm.
So zypper is free to pick any variant of it.

'zypper dup --from packman' will install the desired variant.

I think we should move on with kodi. For 42.3 and SLE12 we may just
fork a A-sle12_kodi* pkg and stick with the current version.

It seems it was never stated why upstream requests a certain version
of sqlite3, libarchive and whatever else is not in suse_version=1315.
I suggest to just patch that out of our variant of kodi. There will be
no downside for releases that do have the versions that upstream thinks
it needs at runtime.

It seems at least one version will not work in Tumbleweed. It requires
some variant of qt4 mysql. So at least this variant could be disabled.

Does anyone know why three variants of mythtv exist?
One would think a single version is enough.
We should probably drop mythtv-0_27 and mythtv-0_28, leaving only "mythtv".
Same goes for "mythweb".
