In case you haven't noticed yet, it is fixed meanwhile. (by a "forced rebuild" 
without any source changes apparently...)

I.e. ffmpeg-4 is available for Leap 42.3 too since a few days.

nevertheless... Now that I have my PMBS account, I did the following:

  0. Copy the project config from Essentials to my home project
  1. Branch openSUSE.org:openSUSE:Leap:42.3:Update package ffmpeg-4
 to my local package A_42.3-ffmpeg-4
  2. Build the package for all four architectures (aarch64, armv7l,
 i586, x86_64)

The ARM variants are not finished yet, i586 is unresolvable (nothing
provides pkgconfig(vidstab) >= 0.98), but x86_64 build succeeded and the
packages work as expected.

As a result, Firefox can play back MP4 files again now ;)

The important step was step 0 above as it defines a lot of settings
which are needed for the Packman builds...

So, someone would have to remove the Essentials/A_42.3-ffmpeg-4 package
and re-create it again; I would, but I am not allowed as a normal build
user.

agreed, and it's probably actually caused by the typo Oliver mentioned

So, perhaps wiping the whole A_42.3-ffmpeg-4 package and
re-creating/-branching it might actually fix the issues. Who can/will do
this? (My account confirmation/creation on PMBS is still waiting)

TBH, I don't think that's the real reason.
IMHO, it's rather that Packman's OBS didn't "pick up" the upstream changes in 
ffmpeg-4 for some reason and still uses outdated BuildRequires...

Personally, I think I'd try to delete the package and re-create it fresh as a 
first try to fix it.
I don't know if that would help though, but it's probably worth a try.

yep, as I wrote in another e-mail (see

the value of %suse_version appears to be wrong. Normally, it is defined
in /usr/lib/rpm/suse_macros where it is set to 1315. Still, the package
BuildRequires packages which are conditional on %suse_version being >=
1500.

What's equally strange, looking at the package's build directory at
,
it lists a lot of ffmpeg-3 packages. Can someone please remove all
binaries and manually trigger a rebuild when no package is listed
in that directory anymore? I would do it myself, but I don't have a
Packman account.

Well, that's what I find strange, it builds fine on OBS, for 42.3 too.
And AFAICT, the spec file is fine, the unresolvable BuildRequires are indeed 
not enabled for Leap 42.3 AFAICS.

Maybe some PMBS "hiccup"?
(e.g. that the BuildRequires have not been reevaluated after the changes, or 
something like that...)

Someone has to follow the 'if suse_version == 1315' branches in OBS. In PMBS 
for example, ffnvidia is clearly disabled, still something tries to used it as 
BuildRequires. Last time I looked our prjconf had no bugs.
