Does anyone know if it is still possible to use the Ventrillo voice chat
program? I just went to the Ventrillo home page at www.ventrillo.com and it
doesn't seem to exist any longer. I don't know if the home page is just
temporarily unavailable or if Ventrillo is no longer being developed. Any
information would be appreciated.

Otsdj

2004-04-10 Thread James Arthur Robinson, President of Jardata Inc.
Hello Wally and the list!

The following is the information on OTSdj I am using currently:

Operating System: Windows XP Home.

OtsDJ Version (the latest: 1.+)

Scripts: Snowman JAWS 4 Scripts.

JAWS 4.02

Note: Right now, I am using the demo version, as he has not sent me a purchase form
yet, but I think he will soon though. There seems to be a lot to do just getting
Otsdj set up (graphics labelers automatic and manually).

Anyway, I hope this info will generate more assistance with the program.

Re: MLB.com archives

2004-04-10 Thread Marco Curralejo
well, wiht the archives, you only get windows media player coming up, and
unfortunatley, it appears that you can't fast forward through the game. if
they ran it through real player, you'd be able to click on it wiht the mouse
and then make it start up in real player, which would then allow you to fast
forward through the clips no problem.

Depends on which imbedded player pops up. You'll have to use the virtual
mouse in any case.

Can you tell me if you've solved this problem yet, and what you use?

Subject: MP3 Direct Cut

 Hi,

this really is a remarkable program for manipulating MP3's. There is one
thing that I have been doing with my Goldwave program when recording
Library
of Congress talking books to MP3. I do the recording using a normal stereo
cassette player, and to slow the file down, I use the Change Playback
Rate,
and usually set the samples to close to have of the original recording
samples. For instance, 44100 playback rate is set to 23500, and this slows
the sound of the file down so that it doesn't sound like a chipmunk. LOL!

Is there a way to do this with the MP3 Direct Cut program? It would be
great
to be able to record directly in to MP3, which would definitely save time.
But, in regards to the NLS talking books, it might be best to just keep
using my Goldwave program, and save the files as mp3.

 Any advice, folks?

 ~Ann

Re: Strange microphone problem

2004-04-10 Thread Rocker
If your just speaking into the mike then a uni directional mike is better
because it just picks up what sounds that are in front of it and not to the
sides. Therefore, it would likely reduce some of the strange noise that it
is picking up from around the room.

As far as directional or not.
I cannot answer that question.
I would think it is the version that picks up from all directions.
Is this bad?
Could the version that picks up only in front of it be the better choice?
Thanks.

Re: total recorder and sound forge inquiries.

2004-04-10 Thread kenneth reed
Hi, Total recorder does have some editing features. You can bracket a
file and save that part if the file. It's suppose to have a fade option
but I haven't figured that out yet.
You can skip through a file very fast. You can delete anything out side
the selected file. You can delete everything before the cursor. Stuff
like that. It's no way as powerful as sound forge, but I like it very much
for it's simplicity.

I would like some help using sound forge as well. I'm just getting
started with it, so I need some general help. Is there a good resource
that someone can recommend? Thanks!

Hello Tony,
I recently installed the same sound card, and the same thing happened to
me. So I just opened my windows volume control, and found that the
controls were all set to 80. In Window Eyes, that means that the setting
is quite low, so to achieve maximum volume, I set all the levels to 0,
and that took care of the problem. Hope it helps.

Re: MLB.com archives

2004-04-10 Thread Tim Grady
Like I said before and I'm not guessing at this, if the imbedded player is
the one for realplayer streams, there is a nice little graphic for skipping
forward through a stream. I think there might be one for the Windows Media
stream but I have to wait until I can get someone to read the graphics.

 tim.

when the embedded player opens up, i don't believe you can flick through
the
matches, unless it opens up in the imbedded player with real player as
it's
choice of player. then you should be able to right click on the screen and
tell it to play in real player. if you right click on the imbedded player
and it has used windows media player to play the stream, it doesn't allow
you to open the archive up in windows media player and i believe that
there
is no graphic that allows you to skip through the game, but i'll get
sighted
assistance to find this out for sure and get back to you.

 cheers.

I only get the imbedded players, but they're different. The Realplayer
has
a button which fast forwards through a game but I haven't found one on the
windos player. It is probably there but I'm not sure wich graphic it is
yet. If you can use the external players like you can if you're using
JFW,
you should have full control using Realplayer.

hmm. that's interesting. well, if you get real player on one team, try
clicking on it with the right mouse button and tell the clip to play in
 real
player. then once real player opens up and the clip starts playing, see
if
you can fast forward and rewind through the game. i must admit, all of
my
listening to baseball this year has been through the mlb.tv side of
 things,
so i haven't really played around with game day audio.

Well, it depends on which team you choose. For example, I get
Realplayer
 if
I choose WPEN, but Windows Media player if I choose KFWB.
