Looking for an opinion on XM radio.

2005-03-07 Thread Mike Mote
Hi folks! Not sure how to this applies to pc-audio, so please excuse me for it
may be a little off topic. I'll just ask this simple question. I'm looking
for an XM radio that is user friendly for the blind. I'd also like one that
has a head phone plug in it, and is portable. Any suggestions? Again sorry
for the question on this list, but I've seen a lot of messages about this on
this list, so why not one more?

I've looked at the advance tab and there is no mention of a popup. The only
items I see are the check boxes to enable or disable cross-fading and some
other boxes about truncating tracks. There's also a set defaults button.

Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place?

Hello Dan. It's located under the advanced tab. Just check the box to
disable the popup and it will never be an issue ever again.

problems with iriver music manager

2005-03-07 Thread Alf
Hey all.
I bought iriver ifp-799 usb flash mp3 player. Its features are very good and
its quite easy to learn how to work with it as a blidn user. However i got
into a problem by using iriver music manager program, which can transfer
files from the pc in to a player and from a player into a pc. The problem is
that the standard keyboard shortcuts for copy and paste in the music manager
doesn't work. Sited people can do that with drag and drop feature, but when
i tryed to use it with jaws i didn't get any positive result.
In the software there is an file transfering wizard which can transfer files
from a pc to the player, but from what i found out it can't transfer from a
player to the pc, so the user has to drag and drop files in order to do
that.
Is there anything that could help with the problem?
I just wrote to the iriver and sed that the software needs small
improovements to become fully accsesible and i'm waiting for their reply.

Yes, that's true. If you burn a data disc using nero it will treat every
file type equally and burn it to disc. However, if you wish to burn an
audio CD from WMA files, you need a plug in for nero to do this in one step.

Hi Andy,
You should be able to tell WinAmp to play your stations.
You should be able to do this from the preferences in WinAmp.
Likewise, you should be able to go into the options, or preferences of
Windows Media Player,
and de-select what you don't want it to play.

Re: Winamp over WMP

2005-03-07 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi
As has been said a lot of times on the Winamp list I run, sometimes, it's
just better to let the default media player handle it. Yes I know that's
not the answer you want to hear, but I've done a whole lot of research on
it, and while it's possible to do, you have to do a whole lot of work to
get it to work right. When you have a web page for listening to radio
stations with Windows Media player, let's think about it. The average joe
doesn't want to have to download Winamp, install it, configure it,copy and
paste a url into the open location dialogue box, modify said URL so that
it'll play right...in short, it really is better to just let Windows Media
player handle the stations it'll play and likewise for real player.

It just makes life a hell of a lot easier.

Hi Andy,
You should be able to tell WinAmp to play your stations.
You should be able to do this from the preferences in WinAmp.
Likewise, you should be able to go into the options, or preferences of
Windows Media Player,
and de-select what you don't want it to play.

Subject: Winamp over WMP
Hi all.
I've just created a web page with all of my favourite radio stations on it.
However, when I click on one of these, I get a welcome page from Windows
Media Player. I'd like to play all these stations through Winamp. Can
anyone please advise me how to tell internet explorer to choose Winamp as
opposed to WMP?
Best wishes.
Andy from sunny Kilcreggan.

Re: Looking for an opinion on XM radio.

2005-03-07 Thread Scott VanDeWalle
Look in radio shack or best buy or for xm 2 go.
Its a little walkman thing. I do not have one yet but I've heard of them. 350
bucks or around there because you get accessories with it too.

Much as I am tempted, I've decided to take a pass on satellite radio for a
year or so, because I fully expect the hardware to come down in price. Also,
I have to admit that part of me is against the whole concept in principle
because it's yet another body blow to AM radio, but then again I'm a fuddy
duddy of the old school.

Yeah, Kevin. I know what you mean. It seems a shame to have to pay for
good radio! I think, eventually the hardware will come down in price.

Re: Looking for an opinion on XM radio.

2005-03-07 Thread Will Smith
Satellite radio for me is the best entertainment buy I've ever made.
Nothing on AM or FM even comesclose.

Having a chance to tap into 60 commercial free music styles, plus over 3
dozen talk formats is a real eye-opener.

I spent $50 for one radio, and $49 for the other one.
Not much room for prices to come down if one doesn't want a fancy
model--and they all do basically the same thing, with or without the extra
bells and whistles.

And prices will be going up on XM in April.
