Re: Converting mp3 to CDA?

Pete! The way I've dealt with this problem is to create an Image of
the CD on the hard drive, then burn the Image to the CD. There're probably
options for this in the burner software.

Re: computer mp3's to hi fi

2005-12-25 Thread Andy
Hi Doc.

I'm using a 1 meter quarter inch miniplug to mini-socket, though I have
strung five of these together. The volume of the sound is reduced and if I
try and turn the volume up, I get quite poor quality. If however, I burn
the tracks onto a cd and play these through my amp, there is a vast quality
of sound. Another list member said that it could be the quality of my
on-board sound card that is causing the problem. Perhaps I need a better
sound card as well as a new hi-fi; Need to start saving then I think!

Best wishes.

Andy.

 Hi all.

I have a large collection of cd's on my computer and I wish to listen to
 these through my hi fi.

I have already tried the wireless path by purchasing a Veronica, but the
quality was quite poor with the signal fading slightly when I broke the
 beam
so to speak. I also tried a wire from my computer to an auxiliary input
 on
my hi-fi, but the quality suffered quite badly.

I'm thinking of upgrading my ten year old 2 speaker hi fi and thought
 that
I'd write to the list to see if there was a particular Amplifier or
 Receiver
which gave better results, perhaps with a usb or similar connection.

Best wishes and Pease at this time.

Hi Garry.

JVC eh? That's what I was hoping for; improved computer to hi-fi
connectivity. I'll need to have a look at their site. However, another
list member advised that perhaps I need to also upgrade my on-board sound

Best wishes.

Re: computer mp3's to hi fi

2005-12-25 Thread Andy
Hi Donna.

If you burn some of your on-board mp3's and play these through your hi-fi,
is the quality any better than what you get with your patch cord connection?

You raise a very good point Donna. Another list member has advised that JVC
have usb connections these days, but as you said, if the on-board sound card
is of low quality, then it would be a waste of time. The Griffin imac!
What is that Donna. Is it an amplifier or what?

Best wishes.

Andy.

Andy, I get very good results running a 9ft patch chord from my computer
sound card's line-out into my hi-fi receiver/amplifier's auxiliary input.
Before worrying about the quality of the hi-fi equipment into which your
sending your computer's output, I'd examine why, as you say, you get very
poor quality doing that, yourself. Perhaps, your computer's sound card just
isn't up to the job. for this purpose, I use the Griffin USB IMic, and use
my onboard sound card only for JAWS. Perhaps, something like that will work
better for you than either of the options you describe below.

Nero and problem burning audio cd

2005-12-25 Thread Larry Higgins
Hello everyone, and a merry Christmas.

I am having a problem burning mp3s to an audio cd using Nero 6 Ultra
Edition. The set belongs to the Carpenters Old Fashioned
Christmas album. There may be other similar problems throughout the
compilation, but my problem is noticeable on the first track It Came
upon A Midnight Clear where the end has a hiccup, where the world
gold sounds like go..old, without the dot of course g. I have
removed the silence between tracks, as well as check the item in the
cda settings tab, and still no improvement. I was making this thing
for my dear wife for Christmas, so I was kind of disappointed with
the results. This is my first time to make an audio cd with Nero. I
usually burn data cds.

BTW, the file doesn't have the problem. I even tried the cd on
another player, namely my Victor Reader Classic, thinking that Winamp
might be responsible for the problem. Also tried recording at 16X.
I'm totally out of ideas.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Larry

IMic is an external, USB audio input/output device. It can be used in place
of a traditional onboard sound card, or as a second/alternative sound
device.

It consists of a small disc (less than an inch thick and about 2 inches
across) that plugs into a USB port. You then plug your input and output
lines into the 1/8 inch jacks on the IMic.

If I rip CDs to my hard drive, and play them through my hi fi, using this
device, they *definitely* pass the what the hell did I do with the jewel
case test, at least, to my ears. ALSO, when I digitize audio cassettes,
using this device as the input to Goldwave, then play the resulting files
from the computer through the hi fi, or burn them to CD and play the CDs on
my hi fi, the results are equally good.

Below is a link to Griffin Technologies' own page for this product. I think
you'll find the price compares favorably with high-end sound cards. However,
I have heard, you can get the IMic for even less, on Amazon, etc. And, the
money you save, you can put into upgrading your hi fi.

I don't want to discourage you from upgrading your hi fi, and, I *certainly*
don't want to give you the impression that upgrading your sound card can
take the place of upgrading your hi fi. But, in a configuration such as you
are considering, I have found that the weakest link is usually the
computer's sound card. So, check out the IMic:

I have a large collection of cd's on my computer and I wish to listen to

I have already tried the wireless path by purchasing a Veronica, but the

Re: Converting mp3 to CDA?

2005-12-25 Thread PETE gurney
hello gerry,

thanks for that, i had a look and found how to do it.
it's a longer method but at least it works.
encase anyone else has the need for such a work around here are the steps.

1 open nero and choose audio cd and click new
2 select the mp3 files you want to burn and add them to what is to be burnt
3 go to the recorder menu and select choose recorder, choose image recorder
[virtual recorder] and click ok.
4 choose write cd from the file menu the write screen will appear but when
you click on write a window will pop up asking you for a file name i just
tried it with some westlife tracks so i called it westlife leave the image
type on it's default and click on ok or save i've forgotten which it was.
5 when the conversion has finished click on ok and then on discard on the
window that pops up.
6 go back to the recorder menu, click on choose recorder and set it back to
your actual burner.
7 choose close from the file menu [not exit]
8 choose burn image from the file menu, when the window pops up asking for
the image name select the name of the image you just created, put your
blank cd in the drive and click on the appropriate button to start the
burn.
9 finally perminently delete the image file as it will be taking up the
same amount of space on the hard drive as it does on a cd.

pete.

Wow, converting to mp3 is done by so many programs e.g. cdex, nero,
accoustica, easy_mp3, among others, even winamp will do it, and I
usually burn at about 32X since anything more than than that causes
errors on my system. The effective burn speed is about 15X though
since mp3s have to be listened too before they can be burned, and
unlike just straight data, take more time. Using a program like
winamp to make *.wav files of midi files is a way to burn them to cd
easily, since the midi file is your sound card's instruments, as it
were, being controlled by someone else's ideas about how a song
should be played, so that's easy enough.

   Yes it will!
If I want to change a file to something specific, here is what I do.
I open the file in GoldWave, and then just choose the save as dialogue,
   and
then save the file with the attributes that I want.
Example I may open a .wav file, and then save it as an mp3, at 44.100,
   128kbps stereo.
Now I have 2 files with the same name, but with different attributes.

You just play the midi in winamp through the output plug-in called
disk writer, and it writes the *.wav file for you.

Suggestion for a good digital recorder

2005-12-25 Thread Kiran Kaja
Hi all,

I am in the market for digital recorder that can record more than 30 to 40
hours, can run on batteries for 15 to 20 hours, includes a good microphone
which is also suitable for recording sounds outdoors and offers the facility
to set its options from the computer. I should be able to save the files in
mp3 either on the device directly or with the use of a software that is
accessible to a certain extent. It would be nice if the recorder had a
facility to add SD or MMC Cards but that is not an important criteria.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Re: computer mp3's to hi fi

Hi there.

I was half thinking that myself, not that I know much about these things.
I'd probably be better trying to get a long connection made up, or better,
bring my hi-fi closer and extend the speaker cables. Would it be realistic
of me to expect cd quality through such a cable or will my cd always sound
better? Best wishes. Andy

Musicmatch is just a player. There're plenty of them that can
replace that like Windows Media Player or Realplayer. I am not aware
that Musicmatch has any more features than they do and they are more
accessible. Musicmatch has had that problem for years and isn't
about to change so I would just say replace Musicmatch and you should
 be alright.

Hi,

Is musicmatch usable to transfer files with jaws? I've tried every

present today and would be real guilty if it wasn't accesible (its a
philips personal soundsystem). The player itself is accessible, though.

Making a play list

2005-12-25 Thread Jeff Samco
I would like to know how to set up play lists for MP3 files I have on
my hard drive. I use Windows XP pro and Real Player although I would
be willing to use Windows Media Player. I presume I could use some
feature in Real Player but I don't set up my MP3 files in the Real
Player library. Is there a way outside of Real Player to do this? Thanks.

Re: computer mp3's to hi fi

2005-12-25 Thread DOC
Try using a stereo Y jack. it has a male mini on one end and splits into
two male rca jacks on the other. Its the RCA jacks that would go into your
stereo and the mini into your line out or speaker out on your sound card.

 Hi Doc.

I'm using a 1 meter quarter inch miniplug to mini-socket, though I have
strung five of these together. The volume of the sound is reduced and if
I
try and turn the volume up, I get quite poor quality. If however, I burn
the tracks onto a cd and play these through my amp, there is a vast
quality
of sound. Another list member said that it could be the quality of my
on-board sound card that is causing the problem. Perhaps I need a better
sound card as well as a new hi-fi; Need to start saving then I think!

 Best wishes.

 Andy.

tell us more about the type of cable you used. I've been using a stereo
Y

I have already tried the wireless path by purchasing a Veronica, but
the

Re: Nero and problem burning audio cd

Subject: Nero and problem burning audio cd

 Larry

Re: Converting mp3 to CDA?

I must have missed the original thread. Why are you not going right to the
burn process after choosing your tracks for the cd?

 hello gerry,

thanks for that, i had a look and found how to do it.
it's a longer method but at least it works.
encase anyone else has the need for such a work around here are the steps.

1 open nero and choose audio cd and click new
2 select the mp3 files you want to burn and add them to what is to be
burnt
3 go to the recorder menu and select choose recorder, choose image
recorder
 [virtual recorder] and click ok.
4 choose write cd from the file menu the write screen will appear but when
you click on write a window will pop up asking you for a file name i just
tried it with some westlife tracks so i called it westlife leave the image
type on it's default and click on ok or save i've forgotten which it was.
5 when the conversion has finished click on ok and then on discard on the
 window that pops up.
6 go back to the recorder menu, click on choose recorder and set it back
to
 your actual burner.
7 choose close from the file menu [not exit]
8 choose burn image from the file menu, when the window pops up asking for
the image name select the name of the image you just created, put your
blank cd in the drive and click on the appropriate button to start the
 burn.
9 finally perminently delete the image file as it will be taking up the
same amount of space on the hard drive as it does on a cd.

 pete.

Subject: Suggestion for a good digital recorder

Thanks for any suggestions,
Kiran Kaja
