Re: flash card recorder

2006-02-18 Thread Michael Lang
Joe, for radio interviews, I'd use the Plextalk PTR2. It doesn't have a
display and speaks every prompt and info hint. It gives an audible
warning, when the lithium ion battery gets flat. And it has a talking
recording level control. The PTR2 isn't as small as the Edirol
recorders, but one can put it in an over the shoulder bag together with
a microphone and one then has an excelent and totally accessible
reporters kit. You can listen to my reviews of the PTR1 and PTR2 at
www.longus.info.

Re: flash card recorder

2006-02-18 Thread Michael Lang
Krister,

There's a great review of the Edirol R1 on www.blindcooltech.com.

Why do you consider the M1, do you use a MAC? The PC version of the M1,
the MZ-RH10 is quite nice too. One can upload stuff with the supplied
SonicStage software, which is a bit tricky but useable with a screen
reader. The NI-MH battery in it lasts much longer then the two AAs,
which the R1 uses, and with which one just gets two or three hours of
recording time.

Re: flash card recorder

2006-02-18 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hi there,
Well, the only reason i wanted an m100 is that it seems to be the most
proffessional one. I was reading the manual for the Mz-rh910 and found
that i could only record in Hi md mode with the recorder itself, if i
wanted recordings to be compatible with standard mds i had to use the
software that came with the player, not good at all. It looked as if the
m100 didn't have that problem. Let's see where it all ends.

Hi all,
Thanks for the tips about the site. It's a real treasure trove! Way
cool. However after having listened to the review, i got even more
unsure and my new question to the list is, has anyone used the M-Audio
Microtrack 24/96 and how does it compare to an R1? I believe you can get
a Microtrack here in Sweden.
Thanks again for the tips, i might just subscribe to that podcast.:-)

2006-02-18 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Krister, I am not sure why anyone would go for Minidisc anymore. With the
R-1, I can record in uncompressed wav format right onto a compact flash
card, and then work with that in Sound Forge or Stuio Recorder. Sony has
just pulled all Minidisc products from the Australian market, and I would
say it's dead.

Joe I've skipped this thread so this may have been mentioned, but it
 sounds
like the Edirol R-1 would be perfect for what you want, or if you can
wait
 a
month or two, its successor the R-09.

mp3tag studio help

2006-02-18 Thread Kevin Doucet
Hi list,

Hmmm, can any one remind me how to make mp3 tag studio start processing files
after you have files selected and ready to start the processing? For the life
of me I can't remember the key or combination to get it started.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks.

Re: flash card recorder

2006-02-18 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hi Jonathan,
You can not edit your files on the unit itself, right? and another
somewhat silly question maybe, how do you know when a flash card is
full? I take it you monitor your recordings with head phones, and in
that case it's no probs, since i take it the sound suddenly disappears,
but does the unit give any audible feedback such as a beep or such when
for example the flash card is full or the battery has run out?
And as i understood from the review, you can't really punch in/out of a
recording with the R1, or am i wrong there? Otherwise it seems easy to
use for blind folks, so maybe i'll go for that in the end.

 Hello to the list,
Firstly an intro since i'm new here though many might know me. My name
is Krister Ekstrom and i live in Sweden and i've been around on various
lists for a while now, for example the midi-mag list.
I'm very interested to hear about the blind friendlyness of the Edirol
R1 and also the portability of it. Has anyone done a review of it from a
blindness perspective and where might one find it and if not, could
someone who owns an R1 tell me a little about it? Right now i'm shopping
for a new recording media and it stands between a Sony Mz-m100, md
player which doesn't seem to be available in Sweden and an R1. Thanks for
any info you can give. /Krister

I suppose the IRiver mp3 player/recorders won't really cut it because
editing anything compressed and then recompressing will likely give less
than optimal sound. Since I don't like MS media player that much, if I
convert anything for listening that was in that format, it goes to wave
files. I usually delete shows I've listened to after I do so. I use imtoo
 to
make mpeg-2 into wave files, figuring going one compression factor to
another would give me more noise and the like and TV has enough of that to

 go around.

plantronics dsp headsetRe: flash card recorder

2006-02-18 Thread Charles Reichardt
Hello listers.

I recently purchased a plantronics dsp-500 headset. It uses a u s b
connection and software/firmware for its operation.

By using the software one is suppose to adjust various audio characteristics
of the headset such as balance, volume, tone and eq characteristics as well
as microphone volume and muting.

If you are blind however using a screen reader (in my case Jaws) it appears,
that there is no access to the menus used to make such adjustments.

Is anyone familiar with the plantronics headsets and if so have you overcome
the accessibility problem?

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Charlie

RE: plantronics dsp headset

2006-02-18 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Any Plantronics USB headset I have ever used has allowed me to control these
things from the standard Windows Volume control, and I have never needed to
install the software. I've always been able to just plug it in, and Windows
recognised it.

Re: plantronics dsp headset

2006-02-18 Thread Monica

Hi Charlie. You're right that the software doesn't speak
well. Jonathan is right about using the Windows volume
controls. For the eq settings, use your application like Winamp for
that. You can't even script that software to work because it's
based on images and colors. I know that's not what you wanted to
hear. sigh

Re: plantronics dsp headset

2006-02-18 Thread Charles Reichardt
Hello Monica and John.

Thanks much for the replies. I really wanted to take advantage of the e q
functions and being able to operate the volume and mike muting with the
controls on the headset wire, but aparently that's not going to work. I can
get my wife who is sighted to make the ajustments in the software, but
that's not being independent is it?

thanks again and let me know what else you can think of. I plan on calling
plantronics Monday morning and if there's no resolve well back they go.
