Re: version numbers of Winamp, was RE: That Pesky Little No Disk In Drive Message Has Shown Up Again!

Chris,

It would be a good thought, but there are no other drives connected to my PC.

Hey, this is the story of my life...if something weird's gonna

interesting habbit of releasing versions such as 5.05, 5.091, 5.092
and so on. This would explain that you see people writing down

It can be very confusing I agree. But i can tell you with 100%
certainty, that the latest version number is 5.21.
That is the absolute latest version, I promise.
As for pam's problem with the no disc in drive, I'm wondering if it
somehow relates to some kind of other drive that may be connected via
USB or something else. If there is one, and windows is looking for
it and there's nothing there, then that may be something. it's a long
shot, but that's my guess. The only way I know how to temporarily
disable autoplay is to press the shift key when a cd is inserted, but
I don't know how to disable it otherwise. There has to be a way though.

Hope I'm reading your question right. If so, what I do is tab down to the

ACB Radio Management Changes

2006-03-11 Thread Norma A. Boge-Conyers
Following is a message from Chris Gray, ACB President:

Hello to all:

As you know, Dave Williams was on a leave-of-absence from January 1
through February, 2006. The great team he has built, along with the
tremendous support
of Chrissie Cochrane on loan to us from the Arts Council, has carried
ACB radio forward during this time. Dave returned to his position on
Sunday March
5, 2006 and we are all very happy to have him with us again.

His stay will be relatively short, however. At the time of his
return, Dave tendered his resignation in order to pursue an exciting
opportunity within
the United Kingdom, but not without worldwide ramifications and
exposure for the future either. I'll let Dave tell you more about
that as he is able to
do so.
A final date for Dave's departure has not been completely determined,
but it will be between April 1-10, 2006. Dave has expressed his
intention to remain
positively active on ACB Radio as a producer and an interactive broadcaster.

This development faces ACB with the need to recruit and hire a new
Director or to handle ACB Radio management in a new and different
way. How that works
out will develop over the next few weeks. Dave is deeply and
positively involved in that process and will continue to be so
throughout March. Many others
on the ACB Radio team will be as well.

We will keep you updated as plans develop. I, for one, am very
excited for Dave and want to say what a pleasure it has been to work
with him. Dave began
as a long-time volunteer, moved into his current position, and it's
great to see another ACB Radio Director move on to assume new,
challenging and different
responsibilities.

Thanks and stay tuned..

Chris

Re: re mp3gain

2006-03-11 Thread Kevin Lloyd
Hi.

Hope the following is of some use.

Using MP3GAIN To Set A Selection Of Tracks To the Same Volume

1.. To select all tracks in a given folder:
1.. Press control + D to open the Add Folder dialogue
2.. Use the up and down arrow keys to navigate the folders on your hard
drive
3.. Use the right arrow key to open the folder you wish to select tracks
from. Note that, sub folders will be selected within that folder
4.. When the required folder has been opened using the right arrow key,
tab to OK and press enter
5.. You will now be returned to the previous list of selected tracks
which will now show all of the tracks found under the folder you selected
2.. To select specific files from a number of different folders:
1.. Press control + F to open the Add File dialogue
2.. Press shift + tab twice to get to the open folder combo box
3.. Use the up and down arrow keys to navigate the folders on your hard
drive to locate the folder in which your required track can be found
4.. Press enter to open the folder and then tab into the file and folder
list
5.. Continue to press enter and use the up and down arrow keys until the
list of tracks is displayed
6.. Use the up and down arrow keys to locate the specific track required
7.. Press enter when the required track has been located
8.. You will now be returned to the track listing which will show the
track you selected. Note that, if you know the path of the file you
require, you can short cut some of these steps by keying the file name
directly rather than navigating through the lists of folders as described
here.
3.. To set all selected tracks to the same volume, press control + G.
Note that this will set all tracks to a target volume of 89 which is a
reasonable volume for older tracks in particular to prevent possible
clipping. If a different volume level is required, tab to the volume edit
box and enter your preferred value.

Replay A V question repost

2006-03-11 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Sorry to bother you; however, I received no response from the first

Hello,

I understand that Replay A V can create recordings of material streamed

The Total Recorder driver destroys the functionality of my system; so I
installed Total Recorder without its driver. Unfortunately, this
precludes me from using its accelerated recording feature. So what I

if it is available.

Thanks for feedback.

It uses Windows Media Player for streaming, and I don't appear to have any

Hi Don
I don't believe it's possible to do that, at least I've not seen
anything in the options to speed up any recordings. I know you can
schedule times for recording from several different sources, but I
don't think Replay AV can do that.
Maybe I'm wrong? If I am, I'm sure someone will let me know.

RE: XP Media center with screen readers?

2006-03-11 Thread Rick Alfaro
Larry,

I am using Media Center 2005 with Window Eyes and I would say it is about
80% accessible. I can use the program guide, schedule recordings for
up-coming programs, and browse to see what is on at what time. I can also
easily see a list of recorded programs and do whatever I need like play
them, or delete them. Of course I can also pause, stop, rewind, or forward
through either live programming or recorded programs just like a stand alone
DVR. Here is what is not accessible.

The setup for Media Center 2005 is not really accessible. Although all of
the buttons and controls speak as you tab to them, the text that is written
to the screen is not. This is the case for both Jaws or Window Eyes.
MicroSoft is writing to the screen in some sort of weird fashion. You will
need sighted assistance for the initial setup of the Media Center
application.

In addition, any text that is shown for individual programs like
descriptions or plots of movies and such is not spoken or accessible, not
even with your mouse cursor.

Other than that, it is great to have a very useable PVR solution and the
freedom to pick and choose what you want to watch, and when you want to
watch it. Sighted folks do this all the time with Digital Video Recorders
and now we can as well with Media Center. I would highly recommend getting
a Media Center PC that comes with the remote control and USB receiver for
it. Not all Media Center computers come with the remote, and this makes
things really much easier. I have a remote, and that is what I use when
using Media Center for most tasks.

As an addendum to my previous message, I would also recommend your Media
Center also come with a TV tuner card. The complete package is Media
Center, TV tuner card, and remote control. Some of the lower priced units
do not have the TV tuner nor the Remote.

with two files, which were 01.mp3 and 03.mp3, and it didn't work too well.
also, is there anyway of telling when it has finished. on the site, there
was a message that says that it should give a beep. i haven't found out how
to bring this alive. mike, i got my version from mp3gain.sourceforge.net brian.

Hi Larry.

Nice to see a fellow music/tv user, recognise the future! Like yourself,

Fwd: How to set winamp's global hotkeys options

2006-03-11 Thread Steve Pattison

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

For those of us who can't stand the chore of alt-tabbing from window to
window to find our media player just to make a quick adjustment or to
advance the playlist, or for those of us who hate having more windows open
on the taskbar than necessary, or even for those of us who just want quick
and easy access to our media without the hassle of
negotiating multiple windows and remembering multiple formless commands (I
subscribe to all three schools, go me!): The following write-up should help
alleviate these inconveniences.

Winamp is designed to be a very modular application. You can introduce your
own skins (interface customizations), window tweaks, and even change the
command input structure. We can take advantage of this modular construction
and:
* Completely eliminate the presence of the Winamp window, * In doing so, we
remove the hassle of interacting with the Winamp window, * We can still
control various functions that we don't always access via the system tray, *
We can freely open or close the Winamp application without it ever getting
in the way,
* All the controls to the media player are at our fingertips, * We can
change what media we're listening to, alter the play volume, navigate
through the currently playing media, or even access Winamp's library at our
whim to access online material, * A slew of many other Winamp commands are
now just a keystroke away.

We can achieve this level of instantaneous control with Global Hotkeys, a
feature included in Winamp which few people have come to truly appreciate.
Global Hotkeys give us access to many of Winamp's commands. There are
admittedly a few gaps, but perhaps these will be fixed in future versions.

Switch to the Winamp window (hopefully for the last few times!). Once you're
in the Winamp main window (or any other Winamp window such as the playlist
editor), access the preferences dialog with a CTRL-P. If upon entering the
preferences dialog you did not land on the tree view of various categorical
options, TAB or SHIFT-TAB accordingly until you have done so. Once here,
move to the top of the list, which should be Winamp Pro.

You will notice that I will be skipping over a lot of fields and/or options.
This is because I'm only covering the fields which apply to our goal:
chucking Winamp's window and gaining us nearly full keyboard control from
anywhere.

Move down to the General Preferences branch of the tree. TAB twice and
make sure that your desired language is selected (for most of us, that
will be English (US)). If your desired language is not listed here,
you may TAB to the Find more languages button and hit enter here to
try and track down yours. This step goes beyond the scope of this
write-up, and therefore will not be discussed here.

TAB repeatedly until your focus lands on the Show splash screen
checkbox. Since we're getting rid of Winamp's window anyway, lets make
sure this is unchecked (it'll just be delaying us).

TAB about four times from this point and your focus should land on
Taskbar, which is an option in the Show Winamp in: group of options.
We will definitely want to uncheck this, since this is the focal point
of our goal (it's the option which will tell Winamp to behave and hide
itself).

TAB once passed the Taskbar checkbox, and you should land on the
System tray field, which is still in the same
group of options. This is actually a personal preference option. Once
you've got all your hotkeys defined and working in good order, you may
elect to uncheck this option to remove still more clutter from your
system as Winamp serves up your media. For now though, lets leave it
unchecked so that, in the event that you need to leave the preferences
dialog before your hotkeys are all set (or heaven forbid, Winamp or
windows crashes somehow), you'll still have a means of interacting with
the Winamp application (via the system tray).

TAB thrice till you land on the Scroll title in the Windows taskbar
field. We're banishing Winamp to the world of the unseen, so lets
uncheck this field. Although it probably won't have any effect whilst
Winamp is happily hiding in the system tray, it's better to be
consistent.

We're done here, so lets tab a few times back to the tree view. Our next
stop is further down in the Titles branch of the tree view, so lets
navigate down there.

TAB twice and you will land in a group of three radio buttons which
pertain to the Metadata Reading options group. Since we're not going
to actually view the file names as they're playing anyhow, lets change
the option to read as Read metadata only when file(s) are played. Do
so by the normal means of selecting different radio buttons.

We're actually done with this branch of the tree view (that was the only
thing we needed to either change or make sure of). Lets SHIFT-TAB twice
back into our tree view.

Now comes the big and, yes, rather long section of this write-up. We're
going to actually start defining the hotkeys that we'll

Hi Andy,

My wife and I passed up a deal on a Dell Inspiron 6000 becaused the Dell
company insisted we had to accept XP Media Center as our operating system.
After checking with Freedom Scientific, we were informed that we should
stick with XP Home because Media Center is not fully compatible with the
standard version of Jaws. We selected an HP notebook instead and we are
glad we did.

Of course I can also pause, stop, rewind, or
 forward
through either live programming or recorded programs just like a stand
 alone
DVR. Here is what is not accessible.

The setup for Media Center 2005 is not really accessible. Although all of
the buttons and controls speak as you tab to them, the text that is
 written
to the screen is not. This is the case for both Jaws or Window Eyes.
MicroSoft is writing to the screen in some sort of weird fashion. You
 will
need sighted assistance for the initial setup of the Media Center
 application.

I would highly recommend
 getting
a Media Center PC that comes with the remote control and USB receiver for
it. Not all Media Center computers come with the remote, and this makes
things really much easier. I have a remote, and that is what I use when
using Media Center for most tasks.
