RE: DAB RADIO?

2006-03-29 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Very, very big sigh. Dab, or digital audio broadcasting is a form of radio
popular in Europe and being introduced to most other parts of the
world...except North America. In North America, there is a completely
different form of digital radio branded HD radio, also known more
technically as Iboq. What this means is that in a few years time, you're
going to need one radio for the US and Canada, and another radio for
everywhere else. I suspect that after playing for a few years with this
nonsense, the US will go the way of the rest of the world, just as has
happened with GSM cell phones. You can now by HD radios in the US, I believe
I saw a very nice one on the cCrane Company web site. Some of the digital
radios will stream data that appears on a screen and I am not aware of any
accessible means of getting to this with the US system. There is a talking
DAB radio on the UK market now.

The Minx, the Internet radio station that plays all the great love songs.

2006-03-29 Thread Bruce Toews
What is it about Gold Wave's pitch shifting that you don't like? It's
always best to be specific so we don't recommend another program that does
exactly the same thing that annoys you about this one. I also wonder what
they could do differently as Gold Wave's pitch shifting seems
straightforward and fine enough for me.

A question about recording from the internetq

2006-03-29 Thread Dennis G. Shulman, Ph.D.
Hello.

I am new to this list.

I wish to record some MP3 files off the internet using Goldwave.

I have a conexant amc audio card.

While I can record using a microphone, I cannot figure out how to record
what I hear. That doesn't seem to be an option under properties under Window
volume.

Is there a way to do this using my sound card?

Thanks,

Dennis Shulman

how to check for updates with replay AV

2006-03-29 Thread joanne
I had a problem with something not recording in Replay Radio AV, and Tech
Support said to try upgrading to 7.0B and even gave me a direct link to the
download. But when I tried to save the download it said the download
already existed, so either I have this upgrade with the B after the 0 or
there's another place I need to go to find it. Since there are no alt menus
you can use with Replay AV, how can I check to see if I do in fact have the
latest version? I don't see a place where it will tell me the version
number. And if I don't have the latest, how would I get it? The download
link she pointed me to looks like the same one I used to download the
program, and I shouldn't have to re-download the entire program, should I?
Thanks.

 menus
you can use with Replay AV, how can I check to see if I do in fact have
 the
latest version? I don't see a place where it will tell me the version
number. And if I don't have the latest, how would I get it? The download
link she pointed me to looks like the same one I used to download the
program, and I shouldn't have to re-download the entire program, should I?
 Thanks.

You can now by HD radios in the US, I
 believe
I saw a very nice one on the cCrane Company web site. Some of the digital
radios will stream data that appears on a screen and I am not aware of any
accessible means of getting to this with the US system. There is a talking
DAB radio on the UK market now.

 No virus

for dennis or anyone/how do you get replay AV upgrade?

2006-03-29 Thread joanne
I do see that I have 7.04 version of Replay AV, but the only way I know this
is by looking at a log. When I go to the download page to try downloading
the latest version it says I already have the RAV setup file in my downloads
folder. So what exactly do you do to get the very latest version, and once
you have it what do you do to verify which version you in fact have? Thanks
for any help.

JUST GO TO THE PAGE AND DOWNLOAD REPLAY AV PROGRAM AND YOU WILL GET THE
LATIEST VERSION. YOU WILL HAVE TO TURN OFF THE PROGRAM WHEN YOU INSTALL BUT
IT WILL INSTALL OVER YOUR 7.4 VERSION. HOPE THIS MAKES SENCE.

replay-av 7.10 with a problem

2006-03-29 Thread blsmass
There is an update to replay-AV. It is 7.10. Since installing it, when
it is connected my system slows down to a crawl. They have fixed some
things, but some others don't work. Just thought I'd tell you in case.
KPFK in Los Angeles now has a stereo stream, but the main menu podcasts
are not available although some other ACB podcast is. Thought you would
like to know. Kurt

Re: how to check for updates with replay AV

2006-03-29 Thread Jim Fettgather
As far as I can tell, the latest version of ReplayAV is 7.10.
You can determine this by tabbing through the main dialog and pressing the
space bar on the about button.
I got the update this morning, and the way that it worked for me was, when i
quit and then restarted the program, I was informed of the update. It was
an 18 mb download.
Also, at least in theory, you could press the space bar on the Update button
as well.
This new version has many hotkeys to make navigating the program highly
efficient.

Subject: how to check for updates with replay AV

I had a problem with something not recording in Replay Radio AV, and Tech
Support said to try upgrading to 7.0B and even gave me a direct link to
the
download. But when I tried to save the download it said the download
already existed, so either I have this upgrade with the B after the 0 or
there's another place I need to go to find it. Since there are no alt
menus
you can use with Replay AV, how can I check to see if I do in fact have
the
latest version? I don't see a place where it will tell me the version
number. And if I don't have the latest, how would I get it? The download
link she pointed me to looks like the same one I used to download the
program, and I shouldn't have to re-download the entire program, should I?
 Thanks.

Re: DAB RADIO?

2006-03-29 Thread Michael Lang
Hi Jonathan, you wrote:

Very, very big sigh. Dab, or digital audio broadcasting is a form of
radio popular in Europe and being introduced to most other parts of
 the world...except North America.

Even bigger sigh! If it only was as simple as that. As much as I know,
in Japan, they plan to digitize Radio and TV together with a system
called DMB-H. And if you think, that DAB is popular in Germany for
instance, your in for a surprise: Hardly anyone here uses it, and last
year the first 30 radio stations started in the digital television
system that's used here. It is called DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting
terestrical). Nobody knows, whether digital radio will mean DVB-T
subcarriers or DAB in a couple of years. But the politicians want to
switch off analog radio in 2010. Want more?

DRM is the name of the radio system, which was created to replace analog
shortwave radio. It can also be used on midiumwave and longwave. Some
German radio stations transmit on MediumWave via DAB. But I've heard,
that in the U. S., they plan to use HD radio on MediumWave too. So the
radio situation may become quite chaotic in the next couple of years.
The Internet could become the best radio standard system.

Re: cool pro edit

2006-03-29 Thread G. McFarlane
Hi Kerry
Here's where you can find the scripts for Audition (adobe) which is the
upgrade of Cool Edit Pro. There may be some link to Cool Edit Pro itself.

I have the scripts for Cool Edit Pro version 1, version 2 and version 2.1
Each work with earlier versions of Jaws. I think the zipped help files say
which.

If you are interested in them please tell me which version and I'll send
them on to you.
Regards.

cool edit pro is a very nice sound editing software. if they are still
 using
cool edit pro, then they are a little out of date, and it must be normal
 for
radio stations to not have the most up-to-date software; all the radio
stations around here are using cool edit pro still. anyways, I dont

jaws scripts the cool edit pro software is very accessible. you said your

Play List Popping Up With The Dreaded No Disk In Drive Message.

2006-03-29 Thread Pam Drake
I have noticed a re-appearance of the dreaded no disk in drive
message. It only happened once and this time it disappeared, acting
more like a popup. Why I seem to be getting this thing and no one
else reports it is something I'll never know, except to say I must be
computer accident prone. sigh

I am hesitant to upgrade past Version 5.1.9.

Should I go ahead and upgrade and hope this little bugger or is it a
bug doesn't bit again? I can un-install and go back if necessary,
but I like the fact there are security improvements to the 2.x series.

Thoughts, anyone?

Pam

 HellO!
I have a recording which i did yesterday which was a bit destorted.
I know this doesn't sounds realistic to some of you but are there any way
to reduce the distortion from such a recording?
To me it would be not that hard but i am not that logical thinking.
 Much more philosofic thinking.
 /Anders.

Re: Creative Labs Sound Cards

2006-03-29 Thread Steven Hicks
Do you know what the M-Aduio converters look like? I had one that came
with the TOSLINK cable which is like a 3.5 headphone jack type connector
that will go in to the sound card and then the TOSLINK cable will go in
to this.

Steve.

The toslink digital connectors are optical, while the jack on the
creative
soundcard is spdif which is an electrical stream. I don't see why one
of
those M-audio converters wouldn't work. I think that the CO-1 might do
it.

Thanks to everyone for all their help.

I found an E-mail contact for Creative Labs who advise that there is
a
basic driver with MS-Windows but they say that I cannot connect up
my
TOSLINK cable to the digital out.

I have a little converter which came with my TOSLINK cable, I think
that it goes from a 3.5 jack to the TOSLINK connector type, I am not
sure why I can't use this really but am sure that I am missing
something
 completely.

 Steve.

 hello Steve.!

If you are running Windows XP,
then, you don't need to get a
 driver.

 Sound Cards

 thanks for your help.

To be honest, I bought the
 card second hand, there was
 nothing with it
 unfortunately. I need to try
to find the latest drivers on
 the WEB most
likely but if there are basic
drivers, that will be find to
 get me up
 and running.

I do hope that the digital out
is the same as the SPDIFF
 socket, that
 will be real cool!

 Steve.

I believe you should be able
 to connect the speakers. Are
 you saying
 that
 you didn't get an instalation
cd with the card? XP will only
 have basic

 drivers for the card.
