You can get to the filters by hitting CTRL-ENTER on one of the tracks, and
then CTRL-TABBING twice. Though I don't know how to tell when a filter is
 selected.

That brings up a question I've been wondering about. How can one make
 sure
they aren't using any of the filters? I do all of my normalizing and
 other
processing during the editing faze before I'm ready to burn the CD's, so I
don't want any of the filters to be active.

 Blessings,

 Brian

 Hi all,

I have nero 7. I was reading in the help or such that there are filters
in the properties of the tracks you want to burn (in the listview of
 added
tracks). How do I select a filter (for that matter, how do I select
multiple filters in a listbox with JFW?). And, also, I looked through the
help file and couldn't find what the filters mean. Can anyone help me?
(how do you adjust the equilizer and how do I know what I'm adjusting?
What does fade in/fade out mean? all of those-- I don't have an idea what
the effects are, simply because I don't know what I'm looking for, if I
have to do it one track at a time, if I even selected a filter...etc
etc...). I'm using a somewhat accessible nero express (copy and paiste
songs into it, but that's the only downside- it could be a lot worse).
 Any
 help would be greatly appriciated.

Re: recording on my thinkpad skips

2006-06-17 Thread Howard Traxler
Thanks David, but I think you missed the point:
My problem is skipping audio while recording through the sound card. The
stuff about the CD drive and mp3 files is extra info which, if related,
might help anyone to diagnose. I have already implemented the cure for the
slow CD drive by copying files to the hard drive as you suggested--when
necessary.

I do have several desktop machines of the same or earlier vintage that
record without a problem; so there's no reason that this laptop shouldn't do
the same. I just don't know everything about the possible settings.

: You have a host of issues.
:
: I would say the primary problem is listening from cd, which is the primary
reason for the problem.
:
: Here would be my recommendation, but it isn't necessarily a cheap one.
:
: 1. upgrade to Windows XP.
: 2. Upgrade go Goldwave 5.14 (current version).
: 3. Upgrade Winamp to version 5.2.
: 4. Once you have Goldwave 5.14 you can take the audio from the cd and save
it on your hard drive as an mp3 file so that you don't have to deal with the
issues involved reading from the cd while reading.
:
: The biggest problem is that I am guessing the cd drive reads at a fairly
slow rate, and it cannot read fast enough to keep up with the speed at which
the audio is going out. So, yes there is a buffer issue, but it is caused
by a slow cd drive.

Re: mp3 player accessibility?

2006-06-17 Thread Tyler Wood
Ah, I forgot. I'd like voice recording and resume feature. This is because
of net library and I like recording events first hand. I don't care if the
recording is good (on my PNY, it was 32 KBPS, .wav, and mono, which suited
me just fine- and I could record 20 MB an hour, which was great).

thanks,

 Hello,

I know the iriver 100/300 series is accessible, but since they're not in
production anymore, I can't get it.

 Heres the story:

As you know my mp3 player wouldn't connect to the computer (I couldn't
access it or anything since it wouldn't show up in my computer no matter
what I did) so I think I'll just return it, since its under worenty. What
is a somewhat accessible player? I'm looking for a fairly high capacity,
like 10 giggs or more. And a good brand, too. Both the players I had (a
rio and this PNY) lasted me 10 months. But if worst comes to worst I'll
take whatever you know of, I'm desperate right now. thanks.

Help with converting rm files to mp3 with gold wave.

2006-06-17 Thread kevin cussick
Hi all I can't seem to convert rm. video audio files into mp3 using gold wave I
have told it to look for all files it sees the file but It keeps asking me
questions when I open the file like the file type ro or ox or something like
that I am an utter novice so sorry that I'm making a bit of a balls up trying
to explain myself but any help would be grate as I want to convert a program to
mp3 to-night so I can listen to it when the little one goes to bed and have a
drink.

All the best and thanks for any help any can give with the garbled way I have
tried to explain my self.

You can get to the filters by hitting CTRL-ENTER on one of the tracks,
 and
then CTRL-TABBING twice. Though I don't know how to tell when a filter
 is
 selected.

That brings up a question I've been wondering about. How can one make
 sure
they aren't using any of the filters? I do all of my normalizing and
 other
processing during the editing faze before I'm ready to burn the CD's, so
 I
don't want any of the filters to be active.

 Hi all,

I have nero 7. I was reading in the help or such that there are
 filters
in the properties of the tracks you want to burn (in the listview of
 added
tracks). How do I select a filter (for that matter, how do I select
multiple filters in a listbox with JFW?). And, also, I looked through
 the
help file and couldn't find what the filters mean. Can anyone help me?
(how do you adjust the equilizer and how do I know what I'm adjusting?
What does fade in/fade out mean? all of those-- I don't have an idea
 what
the effects are, simply because I don't know what I'm looking for, if I
have to do it one track at a time, if I even selected a filter...etc

 Any

Re: nero question

2006-06-17 Thread Debbie Scales
Well while focused on a filter in the list, you route jaws to pc. Then left
arrow until you hear a graphic number. Now by default they are all
unchecked. So you press insert G and type in something like unchecked or
not checked.
Now if you do that on a few filters and you hear a different graphic number
than the first one, then that would mean it has a different checked status.
But it really isn't too hard to figure out what is checked and not checked,
because as I said I think they are all unchecked by default.
But don't forget even after you label them, you still need to press insert
up arrow to do a say line in order to hear the graphic label.

Same here, but if you are handed something and you don't know how long
it is, but you were told it's ready for air and you have to drop it
in, a nice little something in the way of audio alert would be nice to
have about 5 to 10 seconds before the clip is to end, or, barring
that, a count-down timer that's screenreader-accessible would actually
be even better.

Fwd: DANCING DOTS ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF CakeTalking 5.0 for SONAR 5

2006-06-17 Thread Steve Pattison

From: William R McCann [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Dancing Dots
June 17, 2006

Is your child, student or client creating music with a
keyboard and computer for school, for fun, for profit?
Are you yourself a creative blind musician looking for
a way to get your musical ideas out of your head so
you can listen to them and share them.? Then give
serious consideration to acquiring the SONAR audio
and MIDI sound production software together with
the latest CakeTalking access solution from Dancing
Dots.

~
CakeTalking makes Cakewalk SONAR talk. CakeTalking
customizes the JAWS for Windows screen reader so
blind users can access the SONAR software that so
many sighted people use to convert their PC's into
recording studios. And CakeTalking tops it all off
with extensive online help and a set of detailed
tutorials in the form of electronic documents of
hundreds of pages that instruct the JAWS user on all
the how to's. Using CakeTalking with JAWS, blind
musicians can focus their energy on creating, not
trouble-shooting!

Since its introduction at a packed presentation
during the CSUN conference in Los Angeles back in
the year 2000, CakeTalking has changed the lives of
all kinds of blind musicians from students to working
professionals.

What Can CakeTalking for SONAR 5 do for You?

Get you up and running quickly so that you can focus
on creating and not practicing to be a techie!

Record, mix and export your sound productions to
various audio formats such as mp3, wave or Windows
Media.

CakeTalking's tutorial documents include lots of
helpful information on configuring your digital audio
workstation (DAW). These and all of CakeTalking's
tutorial instructions are written first and foremost for
the JAWS user who wants to work as independently
and efficiently as possible.

Cakewalk SONAR 5 is packed with all kinds of audio
effects, such as the Pantheon Reverb, which you
can apply to your performances. CakeTalking gives
you access to the menus and controls that allow you
to customize and tweak these effects to give your
final mix your own personal sound.

CakeTalking maximizes the time you spend working on
your projects by providing hundreds of handy
keyboard commands to keep you creating instead of
trouble-shooting or typing your life away! A few
examples: dedicated keystrokes to move you to
individual tracks or columns, move back or ahead by
1 to 10 bars of music, add marker points and move to
specific markers very quickly.

Many SONAR users, blind and sighted, are discovering
the benefits of adding a hardware control surface to
their DAW. Control surfaces such as the TranzPort
feature controls you can touch similar to the stop,
record, rewind and fast forward buttons on your CD
player. TranzPort has many controls which you can
customize and even has an access scrub wheel to
make editing unwanted noises out of your audio
tracks a snap. Now CakeTalking can automatically
give verbal confirmation when you perform many
actions on your control surface such as muting or
soloing a track or scrubbing to a new Now Time.

Re: recording on my thinkpad skips

2006-06-17 Thread David Tanner
One thing you want to check that definately should make a difference. Go into
the audio settings in the control panel. Under the audio settings go to the
recording settings, and under the advanced settings be sure to set the hardware
and software performance to 100 percent. Since I do not have Windows '98 it
will look a little different than in Windows XP. But, I know that there is an
advanced audio settings and that performance usually was not set at 100 percent
in those settings in Windows '98. If you reset it to 100 percent and apply
those settings you will see considerably better recording performance. My
guess is that that just may fix your problem. I remember having the same
problems now that I think about it.

If a person looks at those settings in Windows XP the default is 100 percent,
but they were set just at the menimum in Windows '98.

Re: mp3 player accessibility?

2006-06-17 Thread Gary Schindler
There is no internal memory with this player. I have put a 2 gig sd card in
it, but it probably would hold a 4 gig card. there is no recording feature,
no resume or anything of that nature, so we can rule this player out for
you.

I want one that is accessible but with recording and resume capabilities but
would prefer not to pay a high price such as a plextalk or bookport.

Ah, I forgot. I'd like voice recording and resume feature. This is because
of net library and I like recording events first hand. I don't care if the
recording is good (on my PNY, it was 32 KBPS, .wav, and mono, which suited
me just fine- and I could record 20 MB an hour, which was great).

 thanks,
 Tyler

PS: How much memory does the player hold if any internally? And what's the
batterylife like? what kind of cards does it take? thanks

I am now using a mymusix player from radio shack. it doesn't record, or
has
no resume, but it will play MP3 files just fine. it uses SD cards to hold
 the files.
the firmware can be updated when it becomes available for the player.

But if worst comes to worst I'll
take whatever you know of, I'm desperate right now. thanks.

More questions about ripping music

2006-06-17 Thread denise avant
Hi all,
I have two questions about ripping music.
1. this is a follow up to one I asked a couple weeks ago. I explained that
although I was getting titles to cds, this did not include the track names
of the songs and they were well known songs. And I might add, that the
titles that are being assigned to some of the songs don't even match.
Someone explained that it depended on how things were put into the database
- and this is a simplification.
My question is does it matter what program you use to rip the cd, i.e.
windows media player or winamp or cd ext, etc. does it matter if you're
ripping to mp3 or wma?
2. I have been using windows media player to rip cds. It's version 10.
things have been going well. However, I have one disk that after I tell
media player to rip it, the cd is ejected. The cd is fine. It plays the
songs if I close the door again. So I don't know why media player is
rejecting the disk when I simply want to rip.
Any ideas. Thanks.

Re: Buffering

2006-06-17 Thread Debbie Scales
Marsha, the default can be one of two radio buttons.
Use default buffering (recommended)
All the say about that is the buffer is
An area of computer memory reserved for temporarily holding data before that
data is used on the receiving computer.
or
Buffer 5 seconds of content.
5 is the default for the seond radio button and it can be up to 60.

then she is correct the option is different for different soundcards. open
your volume control.
start menu
programs
accessories
entertainment
volume control
once you've gotten here press alt+p to open properties
tab then change option to record and press enter
it may say stereo mixer or what you here
this option allows you to record anything that comes through the soundcard.
