New to Total Recorder questions
Hello, I want to be able to record streams and my brother recommended Total Recorder to me. I'm just wondering if there's anything in particular I should bear in mind re accessibility when I buy and install it? I use JAWS 7.0. Are there scripts for it? Are there any useful tips people could give me to get started with it? Thanks for any help, Catherine ** Skype: darkitude MSN: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: New to Total Recorder questions
Hi, You don't need scripts for TR. My advice to you is to learn how to use it by reading the manual and playing with the program. It's very easy to learn and works great! Although, I further added something to the effect that the mannual provided on the cd rom which came with it was not much help, only giving cursory explanations of some of the features, and no step by step instructions. Another bad move, folks! *** REPLY SEPARATOR *** Sometimes I think we should put up a product review web site and put reviews like this there for all the world to see. That might get the attention of the manufacturers. The thing would be to let the rest of the world think it is a regular product review web site. Thanks for that very useful review, Joy. - Original Message - From: Joy Tilton [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Wednesday, January 03, 2007 1:50 PM Subject: review of Muvo V-100 mp3 player/recorder First I'll give the pluses. What I consider a plus for this item is the direct plug and play access without any stinkin' proprietory software to muck around with. That, to me, is more a must than a plus! Second plus, although, not necessarily anything real big or important, is the fact one can take this equipment apart and just use the guts of the unit, when separated from the battery pack, as a thumb drive. Third plus and must, is the multiple level directories one can work with, the way mp3 players should work in mine humpble opinion, not this single directory junk where the device does it's own numbering system according to when each file was loaded into the player. That's a big fat minus where the Ipod shuffle, or any other device like that is concerned. Fourth plus is, of course, the space at 2 gigabytes. Now for the minuses, which are unfortunately way more than the plusses. Firstly, there are only four buttons or switches on this device, volume up and down, scroll switch, and play/power button. So, right there, you know that the scroll switch is going to be the main controlling factor on this unit as far as moving from track to track, or going through menues which I'll get to in a bit. Secondly, no audio feedback, of course, unless you stay in Music or maybe recorded tracks, and you turn the device on by holding the play/power button for roughly five seconds, then wait for the unit to boot up, which can take upwards of 12 seconds, depending upon how much data is stored. As for the menues -- which are accessed by pressing the scroll switch -- they do not default. So, even if you memorize the menues, you have to remember where the heck you left off at. So, if you left off at Microphone, there's a possibility that once you manage to turn the device on, you might be continuing the recording. Oh, to select what you want in a menu, you press the scroll switch again. And, of course, there is no audible monitor through the headset when you record. So, of course, you have to ask a sighted person if the recorder is going. Oh, speaking of having a sighted person help, what is with these stupid symbols rather than actual written text stating where one is in the menues? Furthermore, what is with this bad habit of these devices that stay in a menu for no more than maybe 5 seconds at the most? For someone trying to help a blind person out, or for someone with difficulty with focus issues, that just does not work, people! Heo! As for recording, the quality is poor. Now, I'm taking into consideration the fact that the recordings are being done in low bit-rate wave files. However, the recording volume -- or maybe it's the volume setting used for recorded tracks -- is very much lacking. So, here's my final grading of the MuVo V-100 by Creative. I give it an A for concept, an A for space,, However, for ease of use and accessibility, I give it a D minus. Why a D minus rather than an F for accessibility? Well, as long as you stay in music and as long as you don't accidentally press the scroll switch before moving it left or right to go from track to track, or for scanning tracks, then you're okay. Secondly -- for folks who are left handed, one can go into the settings menu and rotate the display. I guess that can actually be a help if a blind person is getting help from a sighted person and it makes it easier for the sighted person to se the screen. Creative seemed to have had a neat
Win/MX question
Hello all, Finally got Win/Mx installed and running. Using a tip message from I do not remember who, I am just using the Jaws cursor to do all the work and it it works just well for me. Now the question After starting a song downloading and finishing the download, how in the heck do I get back to the original list of songs from where I picked the one I wanted to download so that I may choose another? Replay AV 8.03 Resize Handle button
The Resize handle button you hear within Replay AV 8.0+ is for sighted users only. It allows the user to change the program's UI size. This is what I was told by Applian Tech. We cannot use it. I hope all you appreciate my efforts to make this software accessible to you all. I believe its the best recording software for the blind pc user. Thank you, Petro. Re: New to Total Recorder questions
I will say that while total Recorder is easy to use, as part of the Sound Computing series, for a total of $9.00, you get fifty audio tutorials/articles and four of them are instructions for setting up and using total Recorder. Re: Replay AV 8.03 Resize Handle button
I believe it's the best recording software for anybody, blind or sighted, doesn't matter if you can see or not, Replay A/V is well worth the investment. Petro, how did you become a beta tester for these folks? I wouldn't mind helping them myself, as I'm an experienced beta tester for a few well-known companies. Testers for My Web Server - Simple
Available for 2 hours only. From 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Thursday Jan. 4, 2007. Go to my web server: http://192.168.1.100:8080/ You will see the word: Recording and it's a link. Open it. You will then see this test file: replay-av-801.mp3 as a link also. I need the following tests if possible: See if you can listen to the mp3 file with your default player by just double clicking on the mp3 file. See if you can download the mp3 file to your hard drive. I need to know if the download is fast enough for you. If all goes well I plan to do some more podcasts on Replay AV and other recordings for blind pc users. I have enabled the Windows Firewall for this test. So if you can not access the web server its my mistake but I will know its the windows firewall causing the problem. The mp3 file is the mp3 recording I did for Applain Tech to listen to so they could fix the minor access issues with Replay AV 8.01. And they did indeed fix this with Replay AV 8.03. All is well now. Thank you for your help. If you see issues with my web server please email and place in subject line of email: Web Server Issue. Re: Freedom Box on U3 drives
Yes, physically u3 Smart Drives look exactly like a thumb drive and is inserted into a USB port. However it is more than a storge media as programs written for the u3 can be launched from the Smart Drive, when removed no traces are left behind, and work done using the u3 smart drive goes with you to the next Window XP computer you plug it into. - Original Message - From: Anders Holmberg [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Thursday, January 04, 2007 12:56 PM Subject: Re: Freedom Box on U3 drives | Hello! | Is this kind of drives like an usb memorystick or? | I havent seen one yet so thats why i am asking. | /Anders. | - Original Message - | From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] | To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org | Sent: Thursday, January 04, 2007 5:18 AM | Subject: Freedom Box on U3 drives | | | I found out by accident that the Freedom Box has a U3 | application that works on U3 smart drives - flash drives. Hi Morey - To get from the transfer window to the search window Use the JAWS cursor to go to the top of the window where you click on the graphic just to the left of the Search option. You will go to the Search window, landing in the first Artist/title edit box. Turn off the JAWS cursor and back space once to the search results list. If I remembered the above correctly, you should be set to go.
