audio on laptops

2007-02-14 Thread GianniP46
Hey guys,

I have been a D.J. for 13 years or so. I am now joining my colleagues and will
start to D.J. using a laptop as my source of music with a program called
Serato. It's decently accessible with Jaws after reclassing a window, labeling
a hand full of graphics, and assigning a custom highlight.
A few questions:
1. Any scripters out there or if you know of any scripters out there, please
get in touch with me.
2. I am thinking about buying a new laptop. any suggestions? I am thinking
about a del ensporon 1705. I have also heard some good things about IBM
thinkpads and Toshiba laptops. Any recommendations either way?
3. All of these laptops come with integrated audio. is the audio quality
decent? would it do a good job of analog to digital conversion when ripping
vinyl to MP3s? BTW, Serato comes with it's own USB interface that acts as a
sound card for the program. So the software would not be using the sound from
the laptop. The laptop's sound would just be responsible for jaws and what
ever ripping I would do in sound forge.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to forward this message where
ever appropriate. Thanks all!

I think he's talking about the kind that are like jingles and promos to

RE: PC Audio And Comcast Again

2007-02-14 Thread Rick Alfaro
Agreed, that is exactly what I did as I got tired of having to deal with
Comcast's flakey servers and forget tech support. The last time I sent an
email to their tech support, it bounced due to their mail box being too
full. Changed my subscription to use my Gmail address and problem solved. I
had to do the same thing with my BCT subscription quite some time ago as
well.

While I'm usually a big one to go on the advocacy bandwagon, there's a
simple solution here:

try subscribing to the list with an e-mail address different from Comcast.
For example, Google mail which has POP access is free with tons of storage.
All the mail will download into the same folder as now and the change will
be essentially unnoticeable on the user end. Why hand ring over Comcast's
mail handling practices when a simple seamless change will solve the
problem? Be happy rather than live with misery.

160 KBPS divided by two: 80 megs. 80 times 12 is 960, a bit less than
1000 megs. So you'll get at least 12 hours onto a 1 gig CF card.
