I haven't found such a function in the manual, I don't think, that the
320 offers that. One can do this with the Olympus DS-50 for instance.

Skype call drop-out and query about Version Tracker Pro

2007-08-19 Thread Vivien Palcic
Hi all,

I recently installed Skype 3.5.0.202 and, as with the previous version, I've
been experiencing frequent call drop-out in the middle of a call. Also, when
testing my sound via the Skype call testing service, I start speaking
immediately after the tone and finish well within the time limit before the
other tone indicating the end of the recording time; yet the playback of my
message occurs after substantial delay, with bits chopped out, and it doesn't
finish on time, instead running into the tone indicating the end of the
recording. When I contacted Skype support staff, I was referred to relevant
help topics on the site. They suggest to check that the latest drivers are
installed on the PC. Apart from ringing the shop where I bought my PC, I was,
in the meantime, looking at something else on the Internet and stumbled on a
Google ad for a program called VersionTracker Pro, which apparently scans the
computer's hardware and software and lets you know of the appropriate updates
for drivers and applications. Does anyone have any experience with this
program, and is it accessible with Jaws? Any help/insights would be greatly
appreciated.

Regards
Vivien

Re: Skype call drop-out and query about Version Tracker Pro

2007-08-19 Thread John Land
Hello Vivien,

I bought Version Tracker Pro about a year ago, as I assumed it would just
run in the background, keep quiet, and provide me with a lazy way of keeping
all drivers and program versions up to date without any work on my part.

As so often happens, this is just too good to be true, and the old maxim
applies, if you want a job doing properly, do it yourself.

In my experience, VTP is unreliable, and inconsistent, so leave well alone.

Regards,

John

Re: Making Simple Programmes for Podcasts

2007-08-19 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi. So to put this very basically and to the point, what you want to
do is record yourself and music at the same time, but not software
speech, correct? That's how I understood it. Getting a second sound
card solves this problem, you can set it up so that your
screenreader, doesn't matter which one it is, can come through one
sound card, and your music and your mic will go through the
other. You just need to make sure that the listener hears the
correct sound card, but that's easily done. You might try an
external sound card that can be used through your USB port. That
usually works well.
Hope that helps a bit.

 Hi
Apologies if it seems that I've asked something like this before. I
have for a grander scale project for streaming radio on the net. Now
however I'm looking for something simpler.
I wish to make simple DJ'd music programmes with a bit of chat. I
need to be able to cue up the music and be able to speak over it,
but without Jaws being recorded too. I would prefer not to mix
outwith the computer then record the result. I wish to be able to
record the result for podcast or just MP3 streaming.
I think I'm looking for some kind of mixer within the computer which
allows music and mike, but everything being controlled by jaws
 without the hearers hearing Jaws.

Re: zen stone

2007-08-19 Thread Chris Skarstad
Yep, be patient with the Zen Stone. Remember, you must first
recharge the thing before it'll play anything. After recharging it
for approximately 3 hours, find a file, or folder of files you want
to be on the zen stone. Now copy it to the clipboard with control c
like normal. Next, find the zen stone in windows explorer, it should
be labeled as zen stone, followed by the drive letter. for example,
mine is zen stone h, but yours could be g, or f. either way, find it
and then open the folder for that drive. Now, paste your file or
folder of files in there. Give it a few minutes especially if it's a
large folder. Just be patient. When it's done, remove t the zen
stone from your USB port, and plug in the ear buds. put them on, and
press the circular button, and wait a few seconds. On mine it takes
about 10 to 15 seconds, but it should start playing.

At 02:01 PM 8/15/2007, you wrote:
Hi Lesley.

A common problem that people have found with the zen stone is not waiting
long enough for it to start playing. Hold the centre play button in for 3
seconds and then wait for 15 to 20 seconds for it to start playing. Make
sure the volume isn't turned right down and make sure your ear buds have a
firm connection, they should click into place when properly connected.

Try and paste an mp3 track in there so that you can eliminate whether it's
the format of your book or the player.

Regards.
