I would like some info on the MP3 player people were talking about that can be
used independently by blind people. If there is a tutorial or any other info
please direct me to this, as I am looking for one that I can put my songs on

at all, so would appreciate any help.

Do you want something basic? That is to say, something that just plays
MP3 files without any thrills or anything like that? Are you able to
use a CD Player? Well if the answer to these questions is yes and you
don't have all that much money to spend then the Ipod Shuffle is
highly recommended.

Hi Vinni,

Go into Gold Wave, Hit control+O and open the wav file.
Hit Alt+F and down-arrow to save As and press enter.
You will be in the filename field.
Press tab and you will be in a field where you can choose the file type.
Press down-arrow until you find the file type you want.
I hit it twice to save as MPEG (MP3).
Then you can hit Tab a few times until you get to a list of attributes;
where you can change the MP3 file attributes (128kbps/192kbps, mono/stereo).
Then hit tab until you get to the save button and press enter.

If you're looking for a simple off the shelf MP3 player, I don't think

Subject: Trouble with CallBurner properly recording both sides of
conversationin Skype Version 3.6 and No Tones or inoperative
selectionfeature when making calls while calls are being recorded
withCallBurner Ca

Hello CallBurner Support!
Below are two problems I am experiencing with CallBurner since I upgraded to
Skype Version 3.6.

(1) I have been using CallBurner for months and, up until upgrading to
Skype Version 3.6 from Version 3.5, things went well; however, now that I
have Skype Version 3.6, during a call, the recording is half done. The
CallBurner Program records both voices, but only my voice (from my system)
is intelligible and the second party's voice is low and recorded at a very
slow rate (speed). The recording sounds like a record, with a secondary
sound behind it. I use to hear all clear voices at the same quality. Could
you tell me what to do to get this feature working again. I want a clear
and high quality recording of both aspects of the conversation.

(2) Also, If I make call with Callburner loaded and activated, I cannot get
any tone activity on a certain call and the numbers do not activate or do
what the choice asks for; however, once CallBurner is turned off, all phone
tones are available and work. I generally have to redo the settings, but
they only work for one session and then go back to acting strangely. If I
don't load callburner, then there is no problem with tones or activation of
numbers or selections.

Several or many visually impaired users have spoken of the same problem as
stated above. CallBurner is a good program and we enjoy using it. I hope
you can assist me in clearing up the problems outlined above. This, as I
mentioned above, only seems to be a problem with Skype Version 3.6.

thanks for your quick response to this question,

James Robinson

Is ITunes accessible with Windows?

2007-12-03 Thread Matthew Bullis
Hello, I'd like to get some music from ITunes, since they seem to sometimes
offer exclusive tracks. Is the program accessible with Windows XP and Jaws
7? I don't have an IPod or anything like that, and would only want to burn
the downloaded tracks onto an audio cd, since that seems pretty
straight-forward. Will this be possible? I looked through the archives, but
didn't find too much discussion on the program.
Thanks a lot.

Re: Hello am looking for some advice in converting tapes to cd.

2007-12-03 Thread Curtis Delzer
Try Gold Wave, since your space is limited, it may be the easiest solution.
You might want to try out a free solution, cdex, available from:
http://www.jfwlite.com/programs
which can record from your computer directly into mp3 format. If you're
going to make CDS from those, I'd record to *.wav first, then to your CD
though *.wav files are about 12 times larger than mp3 but no loss or audio
changes in quality can be heard if you use 44,100Hz sampling at 16bit. If
you wish to play around with audio a good bit, Sue, you should think about
using a larger hard drive since 20Gigabytes will get used up in a good bit
of a hurry. :) grin One side of a cassette, 45 minutes at that bit rate
will take up half a gigabyte in *.wav format, and though a good bit smaller
using *.mp3 format, you want the best quality in your CDS so you should, as
I said earlier record to *.wav first, then rip them, and delete the *.wav or
make them *.mp3s and go on from there to the next project.
There are tutorials for GoldWave, and the registration is only $50 or so
here in the United States, and it can automatically make files for you which
would correspond to tracks on a cd from your audio tapes. You need cabling
between your cassette machine's stereo output, probably 2 RCA jacks on the
machine, to your computer's sound card input, probably a one-eighth inch
stereo mini jack.
Let us know if any of us can be of further assistance.

Subject: Hello am looking for some advice in converting tapes to cd.

Hello my name is Sue. Hope I could find some friendly people here on this
list. Hopefully some of you are visually impaired and could help me out. I
recently got a cd burner and am loving it. Am using this program from
Readingmadeeasy.com. It allows me to create data and audio cds. What I would
like to do is somehow convert my tapes to MP3 format then I could transfer
to cd. I did look at two programs which are audio grabber and audacity.
Since I only have a 20 GB hard drive with 256 MB of ramcould this work? Also
if I were going to do this I also know I would need some sort of cable to go
from my computer to my tape deck. I do have a tape player about the size of
the walkman, could I use that? What kind of cable would I need. Also am
using Window Eyes and since am looking at those programs I have mentioned, I
did look at the memory and the space they would take up. Would this work? Am
looking at an hour tape to convert to cd. I am also running Windows XP. So
if anyone has su
ggestions on how to do this since this is my first time in making cds and
loving it. Thank you.

Re: accessible MP3 player

2007-12-03 Thread Christopher Chaltain
What do you mean by any file type? I'm no expert, but I doubt you'll
find an MP3 player that will play absolutely any file type. I know you
can get MP3 players with large hard drives, in the order of 60GB and 8GB
drives, that will work with Rockbox. I suspect they'll support most file
types, but they won't work with some of the proprietary types, such as
DRM, WMA, whatever iTunes uses, Actually, I think you can play WMA
files with Rockbox now. You could double check the web site. It will
play FLAC for example. I haven't canvased all of the MP3 players on the
market, but I would suspect that off the shelf they aren't going to
support all of the open source formats. I'm also not sure you'll find an
MP3 player that will support both Apple's and Microsoft's proprietary
formats. If it supports the file types you're interested in, I suspect
Rockbox will be your best option.

I will be offloading lossless audio files on to it, so the hard drive in
this MP3 player has to have a lot of hard disc space.
 Any suggestions?
 Thanks in advance.

Are you looking for an off the shelf MP3 player or one designed
specifically for the blind? The Victor Stream has been talked about
recently. I think it's by HumanWare, and it was designed especially for
the blind. If that's the one you're talking about, someone else can
provide more information. I don't have one and haven't seen one yet.

If you're looking for a simple off the shelf MP3 player, I don't think
you could do better than the Zen Stone from Creative. It's a small
compact flash MP3 player that has 1GB of memory. It has no screen and
uses no special software. Therefore, it's easy to use by the blind, and
you can just use Windows Explorer to copy files to it. It also supports
Overdrive, and I would assume NetLibrary and Audible as well.

Another option is Rockbox, which is an open source replacement for the
firmware that runs on an off the shelf MP3 player. Rockbox has some
features that speak menus and folders/files out loud, so although it was
designed for the blind, it can be used by the blind to access an off the
shelf MP3 player. It takes a bit to set up, and not every MP3 player is
supported, but you can learn more at rockbox.org.

Finally, if you're more specific about what you're looking for, I'm sure
you will get more info from this list.

Do you want something basic? That is to say, something that just plays
MP3 files without any thrills or anything like that? Are you able to
use a CD Player? Well if the answer to these questions is yes and you
don't have all that much money to spend then the Ipod Shuffle is
 highly recommended.

Hello, I have 2 questions. First, does anyone know how accessible Sonar 6
Home Studio is with Window Eyes? Secondly, I believe that most modern
music synthesizers rely on a touch screen. Is this true? Thanks very much.

but can't find it and need to reinstall it. I don't want to buy a new

disconnected the programs from its objects or something and I wanted to
reinstall it and see if that would work. I will have to reinstall
everything or get a new computer. Thanks. Kurt
