A question about audiophile 192 and recording.

2008-04-07 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hello!
I have a M-audio delta audiophile 192 soundcard.
I have a question which i really do not understand.
When i am recording somthing through my m-audio card and then tries to
listen to it nothing is heard.
I have set my recording software to record from the m-audio device.
Is this because the card isn't a full duplex card or what to call it?
Any help appreciated.
/Anders.

Stereo Receivers

2008-04-07 Thread Kris Hickerson
Hi All,

I'm looking for a stereo receiver that is as accessable as the Pioneer VSX-D
series. I have the 814 and I also know that the 512 was very easy to use.

I would like to stay with Pioneer but I don't believe any of those models
are still available. I do not want a used one!

If not a Pioneer, does any one have some other recommendations?

I have the Zenstone Plus also. I can switch between the radio and MP3
player easily. When I turn it on I am where I was when I turned it off,
 in
the radio or in the MP3 player. I haven't bothered with any of the other
functions. I think John's description was good but it takes me two right
hand clicks to get from the MP3 player to the radio. The radio works well
for me and I am in a very bad area for FM. Creative tells me that the
 radio
is monaural but I think I've heard stereo. I'll have to try it when I get
to the city. I suspect that if it is stereo then the separation is not
 too
great but it sounds really good.

In Winamp press control + p to go to the preferences dialog.

Press the home key to get to the top of the list and down arrow to general
preferences.

The first item in the tree should be filetypes. Tab to where it says all
and press the spacebar.

Tab until it says close (there are a lot of tabs to hit).

You should be set at that point.

I don't know if this would be possible, but it might be good if they look
at
developing the technology with a view to easily transporting it to other
 electronic devices.
I would rather someone work on a accessible DVD player, or TV set top box,
 or audio apmplifier/tuner.

The problem is, that technology--set-top boxes, receivers, DVD
players--they got down pat. No need to reinvent wheels there. The
adaptations we require are mostly firmware rewrites, along with a few
custom manufactured buttons with tactile markings on them. Sans the
tactile buttons, the best thing that could ever happen to us is that
all devices had user-replaceable firmware in them. Then any Tom, Dick
or Harry could come along with custom rewrites of firmware for
virtually anything on the market that runs on a processor of any kind,
and you could have a firmware-of-the-week thing goin' on. The problem
with this solution is that sometimes, such as in the case of
coffeepots and other such unitelligent devices, firmware isn't used,
so this would only benefit higher-end things. But oh, what a benefit
it would be! Come to think of it, that's what Java was supposed to
solve--the ability to control virtually any device you could put on a
network that could be controlled in some way. Never happened.

Here's one, although it's two pieces.

1. Get yourself an iPod and put Rockbox on it. Or not.

2. Get yourself an iDock. Radio Shack just lowered the prices on
them. The middle model seems better than the higher-priced one both
in sound and portability. Figure *that* one! The iDock is made by
Polk Audio and will cost you about a hundred bucks. The great thing
about marrying these two devices is that the iDock has a remote that

New podcast uploaded.

2008-04-07 Thread John Moore
Hey all. After a two-year hyatus, Im getting back into podcasting. I
finally got a perfect field recorder, the Zoom H2. This podcast is of
a hayride that we went on at Heifer Ranch, about forty-five minutes
out of Little Rock. This was not done in surround-sound. Only the two
rear mikes were on, so the recording is set at 120 degrees X/Y. This
means that it is like a half circle. I didn't want to do surround for
this one, as this was a hayride, and I didn't want the tractor to be
picked up. It got picked up, but because only the rear mikes were on,
I faced the tour guide holding them and you can barely hear it. Also,
I adjusted the sensitivity levels throughout the recording. There are
going to be parts you will not hear well. This was an experiment to
see what would get picked up. I won't do that again. The next podcast
will be from Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Little Rock, to
be uploaded next Sunday. To listen to the file, go to
http://www.gcast.com/u/coasterfreak88. The file will begin to play
automatically. There is a download link on that page as well, where
you can download it. If you want to subscribe to my feed, the URL is

Hi All, you have been a great source of information for me, and now I am
looking into and have ordered the magic jack.
I would like to know how well it works, and is it an easy set up and if I
took it out of country, let's say Australia, plugged it into a com there,
could i then call back home? Or do we need to own two of them, making a
connection from out of country?
Can I store numbers into it on the com?
Can I use my com to dial out instead of actually dialing on the phone?
What else can someone tell me, please?

Re: accessible Ipods

2008-04-07 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'm not the original poster, but here's how I interpreted his statements.

By doesn't run as long as the original firmware, I assume he meant
that the battery didn't last as long with Rockbox as it did with the
original firmware. There has been some work recently on Rockbox and
battery usage, so this may have gotten better or be getting better.

However, newer ipods aren't supported; you'll have to look for an ipod
video, nano, etc. I think is still pretty clear. Even if the iPod
Video, Nano are considered new, that doesn't mean that the newer
iPod's are supported. Here's what it says on the Rockbox.org site:

• Apple: 1st through 5.5th generation iPod, iPod Mini and 1st generation
iPod Nano
(not the Shuffle, 2nd/3rd gen Nano, Classic or Touch)

In Winamp press control + p to go to the preferences dialog.

Press the home key to get to the top of the list and down arrow to
 general
 preferences.

The first item in the tree should be filetypes. Tab to where it says all
 and press the spacebar.

Tab until it says close (there are a lot of tabs to hit).

You should be set at that point.

Maybe someone is familiar with these different MP3 players, and can tell
you which one has the most capacity, but you can go to Rockbox.org and
see the list of supported players. I myself am not sure of the capacity
of each though. Here's the list of supported players:
• Apple: 1st through 5.5th generation iPod, iPod Mini and 1st generation
iPod Nano
(not the Shuffle, 2nd/3rd gen Nano, Classic or Touch)
• Archos: Jukebox 5000, 6000, Studio, Recorder, FM Recorder, Recorder V2
and Ondio
• Cowon: iAudio X5, X5V, X5L, M5, M5L, M3 and M3L
• iriver: H100, H300 and H10 series
• Olympus: M:Robe 100
• SanDisk: Sansa c200, e200 and e200R series (not the v2 models)
• Toshiba: Gigabeat X and F series (not the S series)
I myself have an iRiver H10 with a 20GB hard drive.

Here's one, although it's two pieces.

 1. Get yourself an iPod and put Rockbox on it. Or not.

 2. Get yourself an iDock. Radio Shack just lowered the prices on
them. The middle model seems better than the higher-priced one both
in sound and portability. Figure *that* one! The iDock is made by
Polk Audio and will cost you about a hundred bucks. The great thing
about marrying these two devices is that the iDock has a remote that
 will control the iPod.

Re: A question about audiophile 192 and recording.

2008-04-07 Thread Kelly Pierce
I believe the issue is with the Delta Audio interface and not the card
itself. it took me two days and reading the manual five times and a few
visits from a sighted friend to fully figure this out. to record
successfully using the Delta Audio interface, go to the patch bay/router
tab in the interface, which is opened through control panel. Tab down to
the drop down list of H/W Out. press the down arrow until you hear H/w Out
monitor/mixer. Now close the interface. Windows will remember your
settings. this enables the interface to recognize the audio coming from
the input jacks. the sound coming out of your speakers may not sound as
nice as compared to .wav out so you may wish to change this back when
finished recording. However, the monitor/mixer setting will allow audio to
come into the Delta interface for recording.

I have the Audiophile 24/96 and my recordings sound great and the music
sounds excellent. Ben folds is now coming through my speakers and he
sounds better with this card than the system at the club.

I have a question which i really do not understand.
When i am recording somthing through my m-audio card and then tries to
listen to it nothing is heard.
I have set my recording software to record from the m-audio device.
Is this because the card isn't a full duplex card or what to call it?
 Any help appreciated.

In many big cities, such as Chicago, the large radio station groups, such
as Clear Channel, CBS Radio and bonville have a digital broadcast of their
FM transmission and a second station that is only heard on digital radios.
Many of these stations stream on the internet so check out your favorite
local stations and see what they are doing digitally.

enabling or disabling the audio cues is how the built-in accessibility on
 the talking cell phones work.

personally, I would like access to the meta information on HD radios,
 such
as song title and artist. A few HD stations in Chicago have just added
deejays that now recap the songs they have just played. However, many
 still
don't because of the expectation of access to the metadata.

I agree this would be a good idea, for you don't want sighted people
thinking this is a radio for mostly blind people . if that happens, it
doesn't sell and the merchandise disappears from store shelves pretty

Hi. I think what would be really cool is to have them build a
radio, but instead of it being a specialized radio designed
specifically for the blind, which is how this sounds, what they
might be able to do is build it exactly like a regular radio ,but
find some kind of a way to enable the accessibility features. These
could be enabled and disabled at will, most likely through a button
that is clearly marked on the radio itself or the remote, if it has
one. This way, we wouldn't have to have sighted help, just to get
 to the features we need.
so a blind person could use the unit just as readily as a sighted
person could. If menus are involved, I would hope that some kind of
audible clicks, or beeps, or even better, some kind of audible voice
prompts could be used, making it easier to set the time on the
clock, set up presets, tell what preset we're on, etc. I know a lot
of radios and CD players are menu based nowadays. So if the
accessibility features could be enabled and disabled, that would be
a good way to do it.

Re: Portable MP3 Player Question

2008-04-07 Thread Estelita
Hi,
I have Tevion digital voice recorder/mp3 player.
I should say this is the most accessible mp3 player I've ever tried, plus
its affordable price, so I have two of them.
In its 500 MEG of storage, I was able to store around 200 songs in WMA
format in one.
The other one, I use to store just mp3s and voice recording.
This unit has tiny 6 operational buttons that are easy enough to master as
well as LCD screen for sighted people to see the song title+artist.
It is JAWS friendly, and is accessible in Win 2000, XP and now in my Vista
PC.
All you have to do is connect the USB cord onto the unit down to your PC.
Although I did not install the included software when I plugged it in, my PC
said, hardware found.
Using Up/Down arrow, JAWS reads the two folders which are the record folder
that stores the voice recording and the folder that stores the music.
Press Enter to open up the record folder to delete the recorded voice using
delete key.
You know that you are in the music folder when JAWS reads the music title.
So, in my PC,I selected all my music in the music folder, copy and pasted in
one go to my Tevion.
This unit has built-in speaker a lovely sounding ideal to put in under your
pillow to put you to sleep, of course headphone, two triple A battery and
other more accessories are included.
However: there is the latest one of this product that I'd like to get hold
soon and that is: Tevion 2GB MP3/Video/JPEG/FM Radio + Voice Recorder,
Product Code: IN-TV2GBMP3 from:
www.INest.co.uk
Cheers,

Estelita
