Re: selecting only one channel for a sound in sound forge 8
Hi Chris, One way of doing what you want in Sound Forge is to do the following. 1. Record all of your clips on both channels as normal. 2. Convert to mono if the left and right channels contain different things (i.e. are in stereo) and you want a combination of both channels to appear in one. 3. Open a new file and create a file of silence which is longer than any of the sections you wish to mute. 4. Copy this new file to the clipboard with Ctrl+a and ctrl+c. 5. Switch back to the original file with ctrl+f6. 6. As you know, pressing tab cycles between left channel, right channel and both. If you want to mute the left channel, tab until you only hear the left channel and select the section of recording you wish to mute using the i and o keys. I'm sure you know how to do this. 7. From the edit menu, select paste special and overwrite. This will overwrite only as much of the left channel as you have selected with the silence from the other file. You will get a warning about copying two channels to one, but just select OK. You can probably avoid this warning if you record your silence file in mono. 8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 as above for the right channel. I hope this helps. I know writing it out doesn't do it justice, but that's what it would sound like. Fw: selecting only one channel for a sound in sound forge 8
Hi again Chris, In step 2 of my previous message, I said convert to mono. What I meant was to mix the left and right channels (there is an option for doing this). You still want to end up with a stereo file. Re: selecting only one channel for a sound in sound forge 8
So, that I understand you want to ping the channels back and forth between left and right channels while a third file plays through both? It sounds like you will be doing a lot of overlaying where you would mix in that left only channel over the main channel and create a long silence before mixing in the right only channel. ** A mind is a terrible thing robert Doc Wright http://www.wrightplaceinc.net msn [EMAIL PROTECTED] Click to call me http://me.vonage.com/robwright - Original Message - From: Chris Skarstad [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Wednesday, April 09, 2008 10:55 AM Subject: Re: selecting only one channel for a sound in sound forge 8 Hi Well, I atempted this, and either I'm doing something wrong, or sound forge is misbehaving. Re: goldwave question
Hi, Gary. You can definitely set up your original file with a start marker. that's what I do before starting a mix. I find it easier than trying to set it up from the mix dialog. Also, a tip that I learned from Bruce recently that I've found to be incredibly helpful is the fact that you can set cue points while recording. Doing this allows me to jump to specific places in the file during editing which really saves lots of time. One thing to note with this though, the ability to set cue points during recording was broken in an earlier release, (I believe it might have been 5.22 or 5.23, but it is most definitely fixed in 5.30. Not hearing some XP sounds
Hi people, I'm using a Windows XP machine and I suddenly find myself not able to hear some Windows sounds. For example, I don't hear the tunes when Windows starts or ends. And I don't hear the sound when I connect my Bookport to my PC, using the USB, of course. And I can't hear an error chord, like when I want to unload Jaws. (BTW, Jaws is running through a separate external speaker, not the PC speakers.) I looked through the audio properties under the Volume control and either I'm missing something or I need to look elsewhere. So, please help preserve what little sanity I have left...:) Thanks, Norma Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: Not hearing some XP sounds
Hi Norma, Did you check under the Sounds tab in the Sounds and Audio Devices Control Panel to see what Sound Scheme is selected? Aaron On Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 7:51 PM, Norma A. Re: goldwave question
Have they fixed that annoying problem when splitting files. I am stil using v5.06 because after trying out a later version I learned that when I would go and split a file the next time I entered that feature I had to make all my choices again. Unlike my currant version which stays the same until I change it. ** A mind is a terrible thing robert Doc Wright http://www.wrightplaceinc.net msn [EMAIL PROTECTED] Click to call me http://me.vonage.com/robwright - Original Message - From: Rick Harmon [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Thursday, April 10, 2008 12:07 PM Subject: Re: goldwave question 5.30? You can definitely set up your original file with a start marker. that's what I do before starting a mix. I find it easier than trying to set it up from the mix dialog. Also, a tip that I learned from Bruce recently that I've found to be incredibly helpful is the fact that you can set cue points while recording. Doing this allows me to jump to specific places in the file during editing which really saves lots of time. One thing to note with this though, the ability to set cue points during recording was broken in an earlier release, (I believe it might have been 5.22 or 5.23, but it is most definitely fixed in 5.30.
