Australia's ABC Radio National has a weekly language issues program known as
Lingua Franca.

It goes to air each Saturday and following Thursday at 3:45 pm.

In the wake of the recent General Assembly on English Braille which was held in
Melbourne, Bill Jolley was invited to speak on this fifteen minute program. It

Re: Converting cassette to mp3

2008-04-20 Thread DJ DOCTOR P
High George,
There are quite a few audio editors out there that you can use.
I found that DC7 does the best job of converting cassettes to MP3 or
whatever audio file type.
But that's what I use.
You also have Gold Wave Sound Forage and many others.
I don't remember the URL's to any of these audio editors at this time, but I
will find them and post them later if someone else doesn't beat me to it.
My best regards.
  John.

Several new podcasts uploaded.

2008-04-20 Thread John Moore
Hey all. There are several new podcasts up on John Moore's Audio Blog.
First, I offer my perspectives on switching to the Mac. The most
recent one which was just uploaded is a Mass from Trinity Episcopal
Cathedral in LIttle Rock, Ar. The Zoom H2 did a fabulous job with this
recording, and you will love it. The Mass will stream first, followed
by the Mac podcast. To subscribe, go to

. That is the feed. To just listen, go to http://www.gcast.com/u/coasterfreak88

Magic Jack... Yes!!!

2008-04-20 Thread Bradford Trainham
So I ordered it from...
http://www.magicjack.com
I found my jfw.ini file and added the line to lock Jaws into using the
built-in soundcard on my motherboard.
I plugged the lowly piece of hardware into my USB port... And waited with
bated breath.
XP was a little confused at first, and asked me if I wanted to use this
device to copy pictures from a camera to my hard drive...
But meanwhile, the onboard software installed itself, downloaded updates and
took me to the registration screen.
I established my location, verified my settings... And soon, I was greeted
with the soft phone's screen showing me my fine new phone number.
So I plugged in a telephone to the other end of the Magic Jack.
I got a dial tone, but at first, I couldn't get the phone's buttons to
operate... That is, when I pushed the buttons, there was no accompanying
tone pulse, so there was no dialing from the telephone.
I could dial out from the soft phone, and I'd had trouble with that phone
previously... During those ancient times in a former century when we used to
have 56-k modems in our computers and splitters for our telephones...
So I switched out that phone for a cordless phone... And after positioning
the base unit for the phone far away enough from the router such that that
strange helicopter sound wasn't to be heard during my test conversations,
I arrived at having a fully functional telephone connection contingent only
on my computer's availability.
As I personally hate cell phones for anything but necessary calls, I'll
enjoy talking to my relatives over a stable connection at a very reasonable
price.
Thanks to who ever was the first person to post the news about Magic Jack to
this list!
