Re: Zenstone plus

2008-07-24 Thread Jerry Richer
I have the 2 GB Zenstone Plus with voice recorder. I can't get it to
record on demand but I haven't tried very much. There would be no way to
check to insure that you made a recording without a computer as you can't
play the recorded files on the Zenstone Plus.
I have heard recordings that I have made by accident and they sound
awful. The specks regarding the recordings in the manual indicate that they
are of poor audio quality. I believe all the recordings are made at eight
bits which is very poor quality.

Hi, Folks! Am having some trouble using SF 9.0. When I try to edit
a file, I have trouble controlling the cursor, even when I zoom in
(up arrow). This does not seem to be the case with earlier versions
of Sound Forge (6 and 7.) Zooming doesn't seem to work as well in
this version as in earlier ones. I'm using Window-Eyes 6.1 with this
software. Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so, are
there any workarounds? Thanks in advance.--Matthew Chao

You would need to get a wall charger, like one for an ipod that has a
USB slot. Then you could plug the player into it using the provided USB

MP3VA

2008-07-24 Thread Walter Ramage
This site is a Russian site and like MP3 Fiesta you purchase credit in
advance which is added to your account and the cost of any purchases is
deducted from your account. There are many differences between Fiesta and
VA. The first difference is in the registration process. You will need
sighted assistance for that if you are unable to read the screen. You have
to put in a verification number that is displayed in a graphic and of
course, JAWS can't read graphics. Again like Fiesta, you can pay with
credit card but many more other than visa or Mastercard, such as American
express; diners card, Delta etc. The amount of preset credit is in dollars
and are $15; $30; $50; $100.There are no bonuses for the $15 amount but
my first credit purchase was $30 and they added another $15 to my account.
I then purchased $50 and my bonus was $50 (100%. If I purchased $100 my
bonus would be $120 (120%). VA is more economical than Fiesta and their
bonus is by far more generous. Navigation is great as there are lots of
headings for the varying parts of the page. The search is more
comprehensive than Fiesta and is easier to browse through. The download
procedure is as follows: When you find the artist and album you wish you
can press a button to save it in your basket. You can continue to browse
and each time you find a track or album you want once you press the button
to add it to your basket it is saved there until you go to your basket.
Your balance, the number of total tracks, albums and total price of these
items are displayed on every page and you only need to navigate by headings
to find the information. When you go to your basket all the items you
ordered are there. As you scroll down each album has a tick box and if you
tick this and go to the bottom of the page there is a link to buy the
selected items and it is at this point your balance is adjusted. You are
then able to go to the download page where all your purchased items are
waiting for you. Like Fiesta, you can't select your bit rate. The big
difference here between VA Fiesta is you can download a whole album in one
zip archive which can save a lot of time. The stuff on the download page
doesn't disappear after 48 hours and you have access to it for as long as
you like but you can only access any item for a maximum of 3 times, after
that, access is denied and you would have to repurchase the item. Their
catalogue consists of: 18830 artists, 100093 albums and 1105978 tracks.
Their catalogue is not as extensive as Fiesta but over all I think it is a
better site to use apart from being more competitive in their prices. The
link is below. Walter.

MP3Sparks

2008-07-24 Thread Walter Ramage
This is another Russian site but I have had little experience of it. When I
first registered I was only able to download one track from the site. On
registering I was given a 20 cents bonus to try it out. After that I had
some trouble as I couldn't buy credit with my credit card. They state they
do accept credit card payments but when you select that option you are told
that that option is not available at this time and to try again in a day or
two. What you have to do is register with a site called CMPASS and there
buy E money. You are given an ID number and a PIN number. You then go back
to MP3 Sparks and put in both these numbers before you can establish a
balance or refill it. I Have not done this as I am not sure of the company
where I buy this e money and as I haven't done anything like that before, I
wasn't taking any chances. Also, it is a lot of hassle and I just couldn't
be bothered with it. I know Mandy and Trace have used this site and they
could most likely let you know what it is like. The reason for all this
hassle is that MP3 Sparks was originally Allofant3 but they got themselves
involved with the Russian mafia and copyright law. The American's went after
them and put pressure on the card companies who no longer allow them to use
their cards. After Allofant3 disappeared, MP3 Sparks took it's place but
the problems persist and I haven't used them yet. Registration is again a
problem if you have no sighted help as you need to see a verification
number. The site has disappeared and reappeared a couple of times but it is
up and running at the moment. If it continually proves to be stable I may
at some point risk purchasing credit. As I said, I haven't used the site
seriously apart from a trial download. With this site though I understand
you can choose your bit rate and their albums are still 99 cents US each.

An audio file with no extention and isn't recognised

2008-07-24 Thread Walter Ramage
Hi everyone. I have a problem converting a file I have. It was sent to me
as an attachment from a friend who in turn received it from some one else.
It is a recording from a radio programme. My problem is, it is 2.7mg in
size and I wanted to compress it further in order to embed it and send it
on. However, when I tried to use Gold wave, it didn't recognize the file
and didn't list it on the list of audio files in my document folder. I
tried Sound Taxi but again, it didn't appear in the list of files. I can
play the file with WMA but it says that it doesn't recognise the file type
but may be able to play it anyway and do I want it to try. I said yes and
it did. It won't play in reel player or any other player I have except WMA
but with the proviso above. I looked at the properties and it said the file
type was file but nothing else. I turned on the extensions but although
all other files had an extension, this file did not, yet it is an audio file
as I can listen to it but can do nothing else with it. If anyone has any
idea what file type it is and how I can get into it to edit it, I would be
appreciative. Many thanks. Walter.

MP3 download sites

2008-07-24 Thread Walter Ramage
Hi all. Some time ago I posted on another list my experience of the music
download sites I use. Tiffany Gordon also asked me to let her know what
these sites were and wanted to know off list. I spoke to her off list and
said that once I get a bit of experience in using them fully, I'd let her
know but I thought I would post my experience and views here for the benefit
of others. As I said, these reports were designed for an other list and
rather than editing them I'll post them as I posted them there if you don't
mind. These are Russian and Ukrainian sites. I will only mention 4 sites
as these are the only ones I've downloaded from but there are more I have
registered with. There is one where you can download full length movies at
a low price, another allows you to download audio books (unabridged) as mp3
files and is very cheap; $4.50 for a full length audio book. Some are at
192, 256 or 320 bit rates. If you want the addresses, let me know. I will
post separately for each of the 4 sites I used. Oh, bye the way, these
sites are legal. Walter.

MP3Fiesta

2008-07-24 Thread Walter Ramage
This is a Ukrainian site and registration is straight forward and needs no
sighted help to do so. Once registered and logged in the site will
recognise you each time you visit and there is no need to log in once again.
However, occasionally you do need to log in but this is infrequent. You are
able to browse the site by artist, or by artists by genre. There is no
advanced search facility and you can only search artists and not individual
songs. However they say you can search for individual songs but I haven't
come across the mechanism yet but it must be there somewhere. Their
catalogue consists of28,134 Artists; 1,335,857 Tracks; 121,406 Albums. You
can pay by credit card or Master card. The way you do this is to select
your card type and then select the preset amount of credit you wish to
purchase. This ranges from $19.90 to $99.90. The more credit you purchase
the more of a bonus you receive, i.e. purchasing $29.99 will give you a
bonus of $3. The prices up to 10 days ago were 10 cents for a track (about
5 pence and 99 cents for a whole album up to 20 tracks. However, they have
doubled their prices and it is now 20 cents per track and $1.98 per album
but that is still 10 pence and ?1 respectively. The method of purchase is
1. you find the artist you want. Say for example you did a search for John
Denver; once you press the button you are sent to a page with a list of
artists with either the name John or the name Denver, such as Johnny Mathis
or Karl Denver etc. Each artists name is followed by the number of albums
available for download. If they don't have a full album of a particular
artist but only a number of tracks these are also listed. When you come to
John Denver on the list you click the link and you are then redirected to
another page where all John Denver Albums are listed. In his case, there
are 3 albums available and 9 separate tracks. Once you select your album
and or tracks and press the buy button you are directed to go to the
download page where you can download your tracks. Unfortunately, you can
only download your music one track at a time which is time consuming.
Depending on your broadband or dial up connection the time involved in doing
this will vary. In my case, from pressing the download link to the
completion of the download, 50 seconds on average have passed and hence a 20
track album can take between 15 and 20 minutes to completely download. You
are unable to select the bit rate and you have to accept the rate shown but
the minimum is 128 which is still very good quality and they generally use
this rate for oldies where the quality level is not critical. Navigation is
not too bad but it could be better. Some pages have headings and others don
't. When I first registered I was using Jaws 7. Unfortunately this meant I
had great difficulty in purchasing a whole album and had to purchase all the
tracks individually which generally meant I paid double the price. There
was a button to buy the whole album but JAWS 7 just couldn't see it, even
when on my JAWS cursor or even when routing to the PC. I now have JAWS 8
and I have no trouble now in finding and activating that button. I forgot
to say above that once you buy your chosen amount of credit, it is added to
your balance in your account and each time you press the buy button your
told the total amount that will be deducted from your account and you have
to confirm it by pressing the space bar. Also, any tracks purchased have
to be downloaded with in 48 hours otherwise they disappear and have to be
reordered and if you fail to download your tracks in that time, there is no
refund. I have had no trouble so far with this site and at first was
cautious as they were an unknown entity to me and located in eastern Europe.
I have no hesitation in now using the site. The link is below. Walter.

there is an email contact address on the page either for the developer or
for the company marketing the software, I'm unable to locate it.

I have red on this list that the developer is a decent sort, so presumably
I'm missing something. With all that in mind, I'm wondering if anyone can

Paying the $8 is no big deal, but I shouldn't have to pay for a key that I
have not in fact lost.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Have you been to the options menu so you could select the folder where the
ripped files will go? If you have, what happens after you open the player?
You can set it up to rip automatically after you close the drive door or to
wait until you open the player and press the rip button. Of course, you can
set it to have you decide all the setting each time.

my key is invalid. Finally, I logged in at the reg page using my email
address and attempted to retrieve my key in case they had changed it from
the designated code for version ten. At this point, i was told that I
needed
to purchase the info. I don't believe that I should have to purchase a key
when one that is supposed to work is already in my possession. Further, if
there is an email contact address on the page either for the developer or
for the company marketing the software, I'm unable to locate it.

I have red on this list that the developer is a decent sort, so presumably
I'm missing something. With all that in mind, I'm wondering if anyone can
offer a suggestion for contacting them in order to resolve my problem.
Paying the $8 is no big deal, but I shouldn't have to pay for a key that I
have not in fact lost.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Did you have the basic version? when you purchased?
The program?
if so you need to pay an upgrade cost.
they only have a professional version now.

You need a new key for v11.

Hi Everyone. I just downloaded the latest version of easy CD-DA extractor.

Ok, thanks for the info. Does this mean that the developer charges for
 keys
now when he decides to require them for a new version of Easy CD-Da
Extractor? Or am I missing something here?
