Does anyone know where I can get a resistance lead which drops the output level to that suitable to connect to a microphone input? I have tried the equivalent of Radio Shack here in Australia, but without success so far. If I can't get a lead, perhaps I can purchase a USB sound card with line in. Oh dear! I think that's kind of what we were afraid would be the case. We'll have to talk to our friend. Sheesh! What a pity! She wants to participate in ACB Radio's Tuesday Topics and probably other chats. Is there any way at all she could at least use this card for that? She's a real computer newbie, and may not want to do anything sophisticated. She does hear the beep when pressing the control key but no one can hear her. Sheesh! John, Just so I understand, this card won't work for simple VOIP? Seems hard to believe there wouldn't be some way around it. Dave had been hoping the person at Wal-Mart might have had the jacks mis-wired. This lady knows nothing of computers, so he couldn't test his theory without her moving cords, which she didn't seem to want to do.We were trying to help out after she was unable to get into the chat on the ACB Radio Tuesday Topics show in the ACB Radio Politics Room with Talkcom. We probably should say she's an acquaintance, and all we know is what we know. sigh Please understand I'm not doubting you, but rather our possible inability to communicate that the lady simply wants to work VOIP. Or is this what you mean by monitoring live chats? I think maybe it's time to suggest someone go over and check it out hands on. If there's no way around the issue it will be up to her whether she wants to invest in a sound card, as it appears she received the computer under the auspices of Florida rehab. sigh -Original Message- Pam From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of DJ DOCTOR P Sent: Wednesday, December 17, 2008 3:43 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: Friend Needs Help With Sound Card Hello Pam, No, I have tried and couldn't do it with SOUND MAX: I couldn't get it to work for me either. So I installed an internal sound card so that I can monitor my recordings and live chats. I am so sorry, there is no other way to work around that. My best regards! Sheesh! Is this really hopeless as it sounds? Thanks again. My DELL system has one in it too as well. I don't use mine anymore because you can't monitor the live recordings and or live chats. She can either use an internal sound card or an external USB sound card. SOUND BLASTER would be a good place to start. http://www.soundblaster.com is the web address. My best regards! It is the Soundmax HD Audio card, and came with her Dell desktop computer. She knows little about the machine, but would like to participate in audio chats. We are working by phone and she is in another city/State, so we're flying blind, no pun intended. We have followed all the usual procedures for a Windows sound card, but so far nothing is obvious. We believe the mic is muted, and can't figure out how to unmute it. There are two checkboxes whose checked or unchecked status we don't understand, and there appears to be a rear speaker recording capability as well. There appear to be jacks both on the front and rear, and she's not sure which is which. She says the mic was plugged in at Wal-Mart, but she has not attempted to do anything with it herself. Dave did have her check the mic and uncheck the rear speaker, but this did no good. She had sound coming out of her speakers, but Dave was able to help her silence it. This is all the information I can offer, so hope it will be enough to give this lady some help. It appears she received the computer system with little instruction. Thanks in advance.
