I have used the MSI Wind for 3 months with Jaws 10 and it works great. I
have also used Jaws 10 with the Samsung NC-10 very successfully. I would
say that you would be happy using Jaws on either one. However, after 4
months using a Dell Mini 9 with Jaws 10 I can honestly say that it is very
frustrating because there are a number of keys that you would ordinarilly
use with Jaws that are missing or not where you would expect them to be on
that tiny keyboard.

Hi Mano. I would echo your thoughts completely. I've had no problems with
our Aser when using it with a screen reader. I too use a full size keyboard
when I can, but that's just personal preference. The Aser keyboard works
fine as well. We use the Netbook for Internet, email and streeaming audio.
No complaints.

I won't go so far as to say that all are using RealTech audio software, but
I have seen MSP, Samsung, and the Dell Mini 9; which all seem to be using
the same audio software. This seems to limit your options for audio input,
but is probably sufficient for what most people want to do with these
systems. On the other hand, my guess is that if you want to do any kind of
serious recording you will want a separate external soundcard and better
audio software.

Remember that a netbook is going to cost about the same as what many folks
would pay for a good quality diggital recorder. So, don't expect studio
quality recordings with the standard hardware.

I won't go so far as to say that all are using RealTech audio software,
but I have seen MSP, Samsung, and the Dell Mini 9; which all seem to be
using the same audio software. This seems to limit your options for audio
input, but is probably sufficient for what most people want to do with
these systems. On the other hand, my guess is that if you want to do any
kind of serious recording you will want a separate external soundcard and
better audio software.

Remember that a netbook is going to cost about the same as what many
folks would pay for a good quality diggital recorder. So, don't expect
studio quality recordings with the standard hardware.

I just tried the trial of the TV suite version of the program and it
appears surprisingly accessible. The keyboard shortcuts let me do some
rough cuts and navigate in the file. It's quite expensive at $75 but I

I've been recording a lot of audio described TV programmes as audio

As I'm totally blind that's mostly what I'm interested in. I use Total
Recorder to edit out the adverts.

However, there's a couple of programmes that my sister, who is

that would let me edit video in exactly the same way it does audio. I
figure the rough edits I want to do can be done just by listening. But
it turns out the plugin only edits AVI and WMV files. Does anyone know

Well, you don't need a replicator. All of the netbooks that I am aware

can just plug your full sized keyboard into one of the usb ports.

I just bought one of the new Acer 1 computers.
Pretty cool so far. I'm having no trouble using the keyboard and once I got
around the whole loading of JAWS, things went great.
The only thing is that I can't seem to find the internal card reader.
Uh, oh.

Anyway, so far...so good.

Can one just plug the netbook into a usb port replicator and then
just use regular keyboard; saving the mini-functions for when
traveling? I use a laptop right now and it's just as if I am using a
desktop pc. Whenever I travel, I just unplug and go. If one can do
the same with a netbook and it's lighter and smaller, then all the
better.

This message was composed on a MSI Wind netbook.

Hi Mano. I would echo your thoughts completely. I've had no problems with
our Aser when using it with a screen reader. I too use a full size keyboard
when I can, but that's just personal preference. The Aser keyboard works
fine as well. We use the Netbook for Internet, email and streeaming audio.
No complaints.

Hi Billy,

You need to contact the music Section of the National Library
Service. The phone number is

800 424-8567, option 2.

They have a nice-sized collection of songs on tape, chords and lyrics.

Good luck.

Re: making smaller mp3 files with cdex

2009-02-28 Thread Barry Chapman
Hi Melissa,

1. Start CDEX.

2. Press F4 to bring up the CDEX configurations.

3. Go to the encoder tab by pressing ctrl+tab.

4. Press tab until you get to the encoder combo box.

5. Arrow up and down between the various encoders. If you want reasonably high
bit rate output files, select the Lame MP3 encoder.
If you want low bit rate (small) files which it sounds like you do, select the
Windows MP3 codec.

6. When on the desired encoder, tab to bitrate selection and arrow up and down
until you get to the one you want.

7. For the Windows MP3 codec, you probably won't want to change any of the
other defaults, so tab to ok and press enter.

8. Go to the convert menu, arrow down to Re-encode compressed audio file and
press enter.

9. In the dialog which opens up, select the files you wish to convert.

10. Tab to the delete original checkbox and uncheck it if you don't want your
original files to be deleted.

11. Tab to convert and press enter. The converted files will be placed in the
usual output location for CDEX (by default with
Windows XP, this is C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\My
Music\MP3.

I hope this helps.

Barry Chapman

I would like that software, if you don't mind. I'm not Billy but I am
interested. Thanks.

but I do have software that will find lyrics for you.
If you want that, let me know.

Only one problem with this suggestion. He's not living in the US, so NLS

Hi Billy,

You need to contact the music Section of the National Library Service.
The phone number is

800 424-8567, option 2.

They have a nice-sized collection of songs on tape, chords and lyrics.

Good luck.

Audrey
