I would really appreciate it if you would send that to me, as I am not a big
Winamp fan. I have it installed, but rarely use it.

Thanks much.

Re: Win Vista Line in

2009-04-17 Thread David Bailes

Hi Bozka,

I don't have the sound card that you refer to, but just want to point out that
if a sound card supports the playthough of its inputs, then you can adjust this
using the vista sound dialog. If you move to the playback page, select the
playback device that you're using, then press spacebar, then a properties
dialog for that device opens. Move to the levels page of that dialog. It
contains a slider, mute button and balance button for the device, followed by a
slider, mute button and balance button for various inputs. Here you should be
able to adjust playback of line in. The only problem is that screen readers
don't read whether the mute button is pressed or not - you just have to
experiment.

David.

original message:

Helo,
I have problem to set the line in on Win Vista. My sound card is
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio, For recording I can do it in control
panel/sounds/recording. But if I want to set line in for playing to
hear sound from the loud speakers I can't set it. In control panel
this possibility is not awaylable. This can set in audio console in
control panel but it is grafical application for blind people totaly
unconfortable. But If I set it I cannot record the playing sound, the
line in is stopped when i start to play song which i want to record.
If I stop recording the line in is again enable. If I start to record
eg in adobe audition or different software, the line in is disabled.
What can I do with this problem?

DVD Episode Navigation Question?

2009-04-17 Thread radiomanpaul

Hi listers.

I just recently purchased a set of DVD's containing many episodes of the
Silk Stalkings TV series. I am having a problem getting past the first 4
episodes on the disks. I KNOW that there are more than 4 episodes on each
disk because it states this on the cover that I could read somewhat with
K1000. I do not have a DVD drive on my computer so I am trying to play
these disks on a little standalone DVD player. I have been trying every key
combo I can think of to get past the first 4 episodes including the up and
down arrow keys, the select keys and the number pad keys and the previous
and next keys and of course, the play button but to no avail.
Unfortunately, I have NO sighted assistance available so REALY
frustrating!!
Has anybody else had this situation and so, how were you able to solve this
if you were able. Any info would be VERRRY helpful and thanks in
advance.

Best regards,
Paul

Subject: DVD Episode Navigation Question?

Hi listers.

I just recently purchased a set of DVD's containing many episodes of the
Silk Stalkings TV series. I am having a problem getting past the
first 4 episodes on the disks. I KNOW that there are more than 4
episodes on each disk because it states this on the cover that I could
read somewhat with K1000. I do not have a DVD drive on my computer so I
am trying to play these disks on a little standalone DVD player. I have
been trying every key combo I can think of to get past the first 4
episodes including the up and down arrow keys, the select keys and the
number pad keys and the previous and next keys and of course, the play
button but to no avail. Unfortunately, I have NO sighted assistance
available so REALY frustrating!!
Has anybody else had this situation and so, how were you able to solve
this if you were able. Any info would be VERRRY helpful and thanks
in advance.

Best regards,
Paul

I use a little freebee called Stream Ripper for Winamp. After you install
it, it always comes up when you start Winamp but it isn't running--just
ready for you. You first get the stream started and then use your screen
reader's systray access. You'll find stream ripper for winamp in the
list.

Just do a single right click on it. You'll get a pop up list and it is
very easy to use. It just has start ripping, stop ripping and exit. It
also has a settings or maybe its called options that you can use to select
the destination folder to put the ripped files into (called output
directory) You can also select never overwrite partial which I would
select because if the stream is interrupted it will overwrite what you
already have when it resumes. With this checked, it just keeps making
separate files so you'll have a recording of everything you heard. Hope
this helps.

Subject: Re: Working with the Sandisk Sansa-E250

Timothy,

Please tell me how I go about extracting the
rockbox-sansae200-3.2.zip file to the root of the player's
drive. When I click on the filename on my desktop, it opens to a
Rockbox folder. When I click on that, it simply opens up a list of
files. What do I do with this list of files?

Thanks,

John

At 09:10 PM 4/13/2009, you wrote:
To my knowledge, the rockbox utility - rbutilrq - is not accessible
to VI users. I will be doing some testing on it later.

Since you use a Sansa E250, you need to download the following:
The rockbox firmware
http://download.rockbox.org/release/3.2/rockbox-sansae200-3.2.zip
The bootloader:
http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/sandisk-sansa/sansapatcher/win32/sansapatcher.exe
The voice file:
http://download.rockbox.org/release/3.2/sansae200-3.2-english.zip

After you have downloaded the above, do the following:
1. Make sure the hold switch is not on hold. Face the player so
that the headphone jack is pointing away from you. The scrol wheel
should be closest to you. Move the switch on the left of the
headphone jack to the left if it is not already there. Connect your
mp3 player to your PC.

2. make sure you can access the player. This is to ensure that the
player is in MSC mode. It usually is already in MSC mode. To make
sure, disconnect the player, have a sited person turn on the
player, go to Settings -- USB Mode, and press select on MSC.

3. Extract the rockbox-sansae200-3.2.zip file to the root of the
player's drive.

4. Run the bootloader, and follow the instructions. It will first
look for your player. Then you press I for install, followed by the
enter key. After a few seconds, it will finish installing. It will say

[INFO] Bootloader installed successfully.
Press ENTER to exit sansapatcher
Press enter.

5. Extract the sansae200-3.2-english.zip file to the root of your
player's directory.

6. Disconnect the player, and it should come up talking. Make sure
you have headphones connected!

Hi Timothy,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I found a Sansa E250 with a 2gb
micro SD card for under $40. Since almost everything is
accessible with RockBox, I'll pick it up tomorrow morning. I
already downloaded the latest RockBox to install onto the
Sansa. Anything I need to know to help me make the installation
go smoothly to get everything working right? The reason why I
ask, the file I downloaded ended up being called
rbutilqt-v1.2.zip. Do you know if this is the right file to have downloaded?

Thank you,

John

When you install rockbox on your Sansa E250 v1 mp3 player,
everything will be acessible except for the games, and the
recording screen. What I mean by accessible is, that it will not speak.

The recording screen is completely usable. It just takes a tiny
bit of memorization. I use it almost every week. It can record
both from the microphone and from the FM radio. The only thing
you cannot control with speech is the volume sliders on the
record screen. You can, however change the bitrate, format, an record source.

Hope that answers your question.

If you can ask me spesefic questions, I'd probably be able to
write up a tutorial eventually. Just ask away!

Timothy

Hi Timothy,

Are you the gentleman who was willing to help a chap like myself
get RockBox installed on my Sansa E250 version 1 MP3 player?

I was also wondering just how accessible RockBox makes the E250
once installed on the unit?

Thank you,

John

the menus and everything is Acapella Heather American English.
I also have
VW Kate for V 3.0. I can give you instructions on how to
install

2009-04-17 Thread G. McFarlane

Hi John
Would you be able to describe how to make the files speak their names rather
than spell them or just give a number which I believe is what Rock Box does
to files and folders?
I believe there's a procedure to follow but can't seem to get to grips with
this.

Thanks.

Timothy,

Please tell me how I go about extracting the rockbox-sansae200-3.2.zip
file to the root of the player's drive. When I click on the filename on
my desktop, it opens to a Rockbox folder. When I click on that, it simply
opens up a list of files. What do I do with this list of files?

Thanks,

John

To my knowledge, the rockbox utility - rbutilrq - is not accessible to VI
users. I will be doing some testing on it later.

Since you use a Sansa E250, you need to download the following:
The rockbox firmware
http://download.rockbox.org/release/3.2/rockbox-sansae200-3.2.zip
The bootloader:
http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/sandisk-sansa/sansapatcher/win32/sansapatcher.exe
The voice file:
http://download.rockbox.org/release/3.2/sansae200-3.2-english.zip

After you have downloaded the above, do the following:
1. Make sure the hold switch is not on hold. Face the player so that the
headphone jack is pointing away from you. The scrol wheel should be
closest to you. Move the switch on the left of the headphone jack to the
left if it is not already there. Connect your mp3 player to your PC.

2. make sure you can access the player. This is to ensure that the player
is in MSC mode. It usually is already in MSC mode. To make sure,
disconnect the player, have a sited person turn on the player, go to
Settings -- USB Mode, and press select on MSC.

3. Extract the rockbox-sansae200-3.2.zip file to the root of the player's
drive.

4. Run the bootloader, and follow the instructions. It will first look

player's directory.
