Fwd: Important! Information on the Skype 4.1 "Screen Reader Not Detected" Problem

2009-06-05 Thread Steve Pattison
 From:Doug Lee d...@dlee.org
 To: skypeengl...@emissives.com

I doubt this happens to very many people, but I have already noticed
that it has happened to some, and the problem is serious enough in its
effects to warrant the "Important!" subject line attention-getter.

Note that this only applies to users of Skype 4.1 beta, the one
released in May of 2009. If you run Skype 3.8 or Skype 4.0, you
should not see the problem discussed below.

The following information may apply to you if you have ever been
running Skype 4.1 beta, released in May of 2009, and encountered any
of the following:

1. Inability to arrow through the contact list, the conversation list,
or any other Skype list control.

2. JAWS reading huge volumes of information on arrow keys or tab,
such as most or all of one of those lists.

3. Alt+numbers and Alt+arrows in a conversation window saying "Not in
a chat window" even though you really are in one.

4. For BX users, BX saying "unknown object" for a great many portions
of Skype's interface.

Causes of the above problems include doing any of the following
things while Skype 4.1 beta is running:

1. Unloading and reloading JAWS. (This may cause the problem but does
not always do so.)

2. Changing to a different JAWS version by unloading one and then
loading another.

3. Running Microsoft Narrator and then closing it while Skype is
still running.

4. Playing with another screen reader and shutting it down while Skype
is running.

If you never do any of those things, you should never run into this
problem.

I have written up a detailed description of this issue, including what
to do about it if you encounter it, at my web site,

http://www.dlee.org/skype/

The direct URL to the information page for this issue is

http://www.dlee.org/skype/sr_not_detected.php

In summary, the above user actions can cause this Skype 4.1 beta to
lose track of the fact that a screen reader is running, which in turn
causes it to stop providing all accessibility information until it is
restarted. Future Skype 4 releases are expected to improve
significantly on this situation. The Skype developers and management
are aware of this problem. It escaped notice during the testing of
the Skype 4.1 beta release because unloading and reloading a screen
reader is not a regular enough occurrence to have come to mind as a
necessary part of the testing process, either for them or for me.

Re: A question about Magic Jacks greetings.

2009-06-05 Thread Kevin Wassmer
One thing that does eartate about me concerning Magic Jack is that I can't
do 3 way calling. I can however, three way someone if they call in to me.
But this feature doesn't always work either. I hope they work out all the
quarks in Majic Jack. But it is nice for what I use it for and it is a start
in the right direction.

I might add here that there was absolutely no additional charge for the
new code. I sent a copy of my original purchase confirmation and that

I had a similar situation after a repair/reformat of my laptop's hard

received a new code which has enabled the program to work correctly ever
since installing it.

Hi listers,

I recently upgraded my system with a new mother board,
processor, and memory. I re-installed my software and am now in the
process of testing and tweaking it to work the way it used to. Sound
taxi professional is presenting major problems. I entered my
registration info, but it put in an activation code that doesn't match
the old stuff, since the machine code is now different. So, when i
tried to use the program, it would only convert 30 second pieces of the
source files. I can't find a number to call and have them help me
rectify the situation. Any ideas or suggestions would be gratefully
accepted.

Thanks, in advance for comments.

StationPlaylist Studio Scritps V1.2

2009-06-05 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi

V1.2 of the Station Playlist scripts is now available to download from
 www.hartgen.org

This release contains a few bug fixes, and two features.

First, it is now possible to have jaws notify you of the endings of songs at
a time specified by the user. While we did have this in V1.1, this function
now allows you to not be focused within Station Playlist. So you can be
checking your Email and Twitter etc while the monitoring is taking place.

In order to have this function, a modification is made to your jaws default
scripts. Please read the installation notes carefully prior to installing.

Second, pressing insert F12 twice quickly will now report the time including
the seconds. Once pressed, the Braille display constantly shows the time
including the ongoing seconds count which is incredibly useful.

This occurs until a key is pressed whereupon of course the Braille display
will show whatever it is you have requested.

The documentation of course reflects all of these new items.

Enjoy!

RE: [StationPlaylist] Version 1 of JAWS scripts for Station Playlist

2009-06-05 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Peter, the two programs go hand and glove. Creator helps you define your
program elements into categories, spotgroups, and then rotations that
specify the order in which those different elements will play. Then it
generates the playlist. This software is quite accessible out of the box,
and the scripts do not cover this.

Then, you need something to actually broadcast with. Studio plays the
playlists that Creator has generated, and is an environment for broadcasting
either entirely automated, or in live assist mode. The scripts are for
Studio.

hope this helps.

I thought I would not need the Studio version as I don't really see the need
