Installing SoundForge 8 and 9 on same machine

2009-10-11 Thread JardataMailServices
Hello List!

I have had SoundForge 8 on my Windows XP Pro machine for several years. I now
own SoundForge 9. Can I install SoundForge 9 on this machine along with
SoundForge 8? I see that there is a SoundForge 8 folder in the Sony Folder in
Ptrogram Files and SoundForge 9 would be in its own folder as well; however, I
notice that there is a Shared Plug-Ins Folder in the Sony Folder and there
would be a Shared Plug-ins Folder in the SoundForge 9 Folder. Would the two
Shared Plug-Ins Folder conflict or are the files in each one different and they
would just share the same folder? I can remove SoundForge 8 if necessary or I
could just make a second Sony folder during SoundForge 9 Installation if
necessary. Tell me what is necessary. I want SoundForge 8 to remain until I
see if SoundForge 9 works properly.

Do let me know what is appropriate.

Re: Installing SoundForge 8 and 9 on same machine

2009-10-11 Thread Matthew Bullis
Oh yes. At one time, on one PC, I had versions 7 8 and 9 on. For some reason
with that computer, version 8 didn't record well, as it kept stuttering, and
so I'd use version 7 for recording, and then version 8 for all other tasks.
I didn't do much with version 9, because it didn't seem to work well with
scripts. but version 10 just came out, and I'll get that.

Thanks a lot.

RE: Sound Forge Versions/names; what they should cost approximately; and which version should I get that is the most accessible (version 8, 9, or 10)

2009-10-11 Thread Tim Noonan
Jim S's website says he has support (perhaps limited) for Sound Forge Studio
9, as well as the full Sound Forge.

The development of his scripts for Sound Forge 10 is coming along well, and
I find that it is a more responsive application than Sound Forge 9.

In the old days, the Sound Forge Studio version didn't provide the
(incredibly useful) presets for effects etc, which would severely diminish
the ease and efficiency of its use.

I would have thought you'd only be offered Sound Forge 10, and maybe 9 for a
time now.

The cheaper package is Sony Sound Studio, or some such name like that, and
sells for the price you mention. It's a cut down version of Sound Forge of
course, but does much of what S F does only limited to stereo recording.

Far as I know there aren't scripts for Sound Studio like there are for Sound
Forge.

If you want to get version 10, the pricing will increase towards the end of
October, so you would save 100 dollars or so buying in the promotional
period.

Re: Installing SoundForge 8 and 9 on same machine

2009-10-11 Thread David Tanner
Did you purchase version 9 as an upgrade? If so you will want version 8 on
your machine until you have version 9 installed and registered. I found
that I had a real problem getting version 9 upgrade to work when I installed
it on a machine that did not have version 8, because it couldn't find
version 8 during registration and just puting in the version 8 serial number
didn't seem to satisfy the registration routine. On the machine that I had
version 8 installed on version 9 went in and registered with no problems at
all.

Ok, so how for us novices does this stack up recording quality wise with the
other stuff out there? And just what does that 44 number mean?
