audacity email list

2009-11-12 Thread Jed Barton
Hey guys,

Anyone know if there is a good email list for people who are blind that use
audacity or is this the best one?
Would be great to get with an experienced user on skype, and go to town and
start playing.
Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jed

Well correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Sound Forge is a multi track
editor and - if the latest version I'm looking at is anything to go by - I
don't think its nearly as accessible as it once was?

RE: multi track editers

2009-11-12 Thread Janelle Vacanti
These might help you do that. Here's a link to a website where there is an
audio tutorial on Audacity.
http://www.blind-geek-zone.net/audio.htm
Once you go there just click on the link that says "Audacity Presentation.mp3."
Also, here is a link to an article that discusses using Audacity with JAWS.
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Audacity-1.3.3-Guide.html
These aren't the newest tutorials, but they should help.
I don't use Window Eyes, but perhaps these tutorials will also work with Window
Eyes.
I also have a Microsoft Word document of shortcut keys for Audacity. If you or
anybody else wants it, just let me know and I'll send it to you off list,
because I don't know if we are able to send attachments on this list.

Audacity can do more than two tracks.
When you press R to start recording, then press the spacebar to stop
recording, then press R again to start recording again, a second track will
be created once you press R the second time.
Same thing applies for the third and fourth tracks and so on.

Sound Forge Audio Studio, another point of puzzlement?

2009-11-12 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

In previous versions of the Sound Forge Application I used - that's now known
as Sound Forge Pro - the regions facility was extremely useful, you could for
instance make regions of different portions in your project and treat those as
a playlist - only your regions would play when you hit the spacebar -, treat
them as a cutlist - everything but those regions of your project in the cutlist
would play when you pressed the spacebar, - or you could extract the regions to
files - each region of your project would be a separate file -, so far so good.
It seems that with Sound Forge Audio Studio these features have been removed
so - given that - I have to ask myself the question, why bother with regions at
all? What's the difference then in Sound Forge Audio Studio between regions and
reference markers? As far as I can tell there are absolutely noe.

For your reference, you can put a "Reference marker" anywhere in your project -
no matter what mode you're in - - by pressing the "M" key.

So again, another reason to stay away from Sound Forge Audio Studio in my
humble opinion, with those useful region tools removed I see little point in
the software, Goldwave has a similar feature to Sound Forge's regions in the
form of "Cue points", highly useful and further more they can be shared amongst
applications that support cue files, you can edit them in a text editor and so
on so another damn great reason to purchase this product.

And as a final sorry note on Sound Forge Audio Studio, this version seems far
less accessible than past versions of the software and I don't think its my
imagination either though perhaps I'm just used to the excellent
accessibility provided by Goldwave under Windows or amadeus Pro for the Mac
.

If you want the best "bang for your buck" as far as audio recorders and
editors go then there's one piece of software that really puts Sound Forge
Audio Studio, Sound forge Pro and Goldwave to absolute shame and that's
Amadeus Pro, the multi track recorder/editing software for the Mac, without
a doubt this is my favourite piece of audio software and it even costs less
than Goldwave does.

I'm only sorry that only a small proportion of you are likely to have any
"hands on" experience with Amadeus Pro as you'll notice a stark difference
in performance with this software, its something that I've not seen any
audio editing application running under Windows match yet although in some
areas Sound Forge can come a little bit closer .

Hi there. it might be a lot simpler if you just downloaded the You Tube
file as an mp3 file. If you wish, i will send you the converter, it
allows
you to convert and download You Tube video as MP3 files. I have never
used

it but know a lot of folk who do and love it. Walter.

Hi: I want to record from the internet some YouTube Guitar lessons so I
can

practice at a slower rate. I saw the following in some article:
"to record the mixed
sound going to the speakers by selecting
"Stereo Mix" or "What-U-Hear"
doesn't include the mic signal..."
Where is this option? I have looked in my device tab and see a couple of
input devices but nothing about what you hear or my speakers or anything.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I thought I could capture those Internet audio files as they played.
Thanks Rick USA

2009-11-12 Thread Dane trethowan
Okay, the "What you hear" option is something that may or may not appear in the
volume control properties under "Recording Controls" depending on the sound
card or sound device installed. For example on my own system, "What you hear"
is available on the internal Realtek sound device built-in to the Mother board
but not available on the SB Live Audigy II card I have in the box, for
recording Internet streams and the like I think by far your best bet to do this
is a dedicated recorder for the job such as Total Recorder for Windows and
Audio Hijack Pro for the Mac.

Re: More About Sound Forge Audio Studio and Goldwave

2009-11-12 Thread Larry Naessens
I know what you mean. When editing audio in Windows, which is
happening less now that I'm using Amadeus more and more, I find that I
prefer System Access. On my system, it's very stable and works with
any windows audio apps that I have onboard. No SMA required.

Rick, I use GoldWave every day with Window-eyes and/or System

and Window-Eyes.

My experience with Sound Forge has not been so satisfying. But
maybe it's me. Probably is.

Just great! I run Windoweyes 7.0 and was going to download the
most recent version of Goldwave! Now I'm not sure where to go. Do
I try to use Goldwave, do I not use Windoweyes, do I try and mess
with the set files or what? Great, after allot of reading I pick
Goldwave and in the next e-mail I find out it might not work
properly with Windoweyes! Man, sometimes the Gods have a lousy
sense of humor. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
Thanks for this great list. If it wasn't for you guys I would be
even more lost trying to figure this stuff out.

mapping keys for sound effects

Hey. I run a local morning show and I thought I would investigate one of these
programs that will map sound effects to keystrokes. Might come in handy for the
show. Anyway reccomendations? Something that is small and cheap and not a

Re: Rewritable cd's

2009-11-12 Thread DJ DOCTOR P

Not So!
I have made a copy of an audio CD from that CDRW.
I had to do that at the time because, I had a pare of older CD players that
wouldn't play CD's that were burned on computers.

So for me, this was the way to go.

what you have created is just another data disk. it will not create an
standard audio disk.

High Robert,
I have more then a few times.
What I would do is, convert the files to wave, and then burn them to
CDRW.

And then I would copy them to CDR.

High Robert,
Yes it can.
I do this with Roxeo all the time.
All you need to do is, put the CD that you wish to make a copy of in
the drive #1, and the blank disc in drive #2.
After that, you just tell your computer to burn what's on disc #1 on to
disc #2 and it's done!

My best regards.
 John.

If you are talking about trying to create an audio cd on a rewriteable
and then copying that information to another cd blank I don't think it
can be done.

Hello,
yes it is, especially if your computer has 2 CD ROM drives on it.
You can copy 1 disc to another.
My best regards.

Because of the difficulty in burning some music files, I am
considering burning on a rewritable cd and copying the files to a
regular disc. Is this feasible?? Any advice appreciated, thanks,
Don

it works fine with winjow-eyes 7.0. If you upgrade to window-eyes 7.11 that's
where you'll have the
problem. You can download the trial version of goldwave to test it out. On Wed,

New GoldWave Question

2009-11-12 Thread RicksPlace
Hi Dane et al: Well I installed the Goldwave 5.5. It was about as easy as it
gets. I am reading the manual. I have not installed any scripts nor set files
for my Windoweyes V7.0 to see what GW looks like out of the box. My first task
will be to attempt to record a YouTube audio for analysis. I play guitar and
need to slow down a audio lesson selection to be able to break it into
measures. Anyway, all went well so far. Rick Harmon has some tutorials on using
Goldwave and, of course, if you have any comments before I try this puppy out I
would appreciate it. Thanks again guys for all the help.
I will buy it as soon as I check out some of the basic functions. Then I need
to get into MultiTrack editing like Multiquence or something. For now this is
great.
