RE: multi track editers
Sound Forge 10 is multi-channel, and you can edit 5.1 surround with it. It's not multi-track though. Also, I've just used it for a big job and it got all stressed and suddenly mono-ised every one of the 6 channels in my edits, over and over again. Created a shed load of work. I'm pretty disillusioned with it now. Could I just use Audacity instead, guys, do you think? Hi! In previous versions of the Sound Forge Application I used - that's now known as Sound Forge Pro - the regions facility was extremely useful, you could for instance make regions of different portions in your project and treat those as a playlist - only your regions would play when you hit the spacebar -, treat them as a cutlist - everything but those regions of your project in the cutlist would play when you pressed the spacebar, - or you could extract the regions to files - each region of your project would be a separate file -, so far so good. GoldWave Recording Volumes
Hi: I can record what I hear from a YouTube internet stream. It sounds fine while recording but when I play the saved file it is barely audible. The Master Control volume is at 7, I have the microphone and SterioMix selected. Their volumes are at 0. I change them, click ok and when I go back they are at 0 again. Even after I changed them the sound is still not changed when I play the saved file in any player. I tried it in a couple including Media Player and the audio is almost not there, but it is there a very little. Anyone run across something like this? Also, is the max volume 10? I don't know if the CDArchitect thingy is of interest to you, Dane, but that was one of the parts of the bundle that Sony offered, that I bought into a few years back, when version 9 of the Pro version came out. It would allow one to create a CD from those regions that you spoke of, with individual tracks involved, which I am sure, from your conversation, that Goldwave could do as well, right? I could never figure out how to create the regions in version 9, hence I would import them, from version 6, which I was told, by Jim Snowbarger, the Snowman, at one time, that his way of doing that was the same! Re: Sound Forge Audio Studio, another point of puzzlement?
Glancing through the specs for Sony Audio Studio regions are certainly mentioned and I feel regions must exist in version 9 to enable burning tracks to Cd from within Audio Studio. So I'm guessing the command to convert markers to regions is somewhere else now, but not absent in Audio Studio. I can check this when I turn on my other computer which has Audio Studio on it. As for the plug-ins, well I think Sony saw it's mistake in version eight of SF and so started offering noise reduction etc bundled with SF9 and now 10 I think. You may think the price premium high, but then the various converters offered as additions are amed probably mor at professionals than more casual users. One doesn't have to look far either in our little access tech world to know that something carrying pro in it's name is inviting custom from someone who's liekly not paying that premium price themselves. Re: multi track editers
There are two versions of Audacity you can download on that page. There is 1.2.6, which is the stable version and there is a 1.3.9 beata version, which isn't stable and is available for testing. I think the beata version is more accessible with JAWS. I used to use the stable release, but then started using the beata versions. If you want to download the beata version, go to this link. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/beta_windows Then just go to the heading that says Recommended Download and the first link you should see after that heading is called Audacity 1.3.9 Installer. Re: multi track editers
Well, the Source forge link, that Janelle gave out has, I think, more than one download link, which kind of confused me, as to the right one to download, for XP Home! That's what I was talking about, not a google link! Here is a copy of her text: Audacity is accessible and it's free. You can download Audacity from: http://www.audacity.sourceforge.net/ I will go there again, to see if I can figure out what to do, all on my own, which is how it should be, right? Re: Slowing down speed in Soundforge 7
The simple answer re. slowing down recordings in SF7 is to go to the processes menu and hit T. that opens a dialogue where you can shift tab or tab to the presets drop down list where there are a few pre-defined speeds to slow down or speed up the track you're working on. Beyond that it gets a bit more complicated. for example, you can tab around to the mode drop down to select the type of material you're working on. this optimizes the compression to sound best to match the material you're working with. there is a slider too which allows fine adjustment of the speed up or down, but here's where scripts would come into their own. there is a part of the time stretch dialogue that reports the adjustment as a percentage and a script or possibly similar would pick that up. should be enough to get you started though. I find time stretching and compressing very useful in SF and use it all the time to tweak the times of tracks in our talking newspaper. Two things. Where on the screen do I look to see how far I'm into the track? Is there a way of setting queue points as in gold wave. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Re: Sound Forge Audio Studio, another point of puzzlement?
Ah yes, that's all there alright but there is little manipulation of them, that's my point so I'm asking what is the point of the regions at all when you can do exactly the same thing in Sound Forge Audio Studio 9 as you can with markers, another reason in my view to stay away from that software and purchase Goldwave, another version of which was released yesterday. On 14/11/2009, at 5:15 AM, Ray wrote: Glancing through the specs for Sony Audio Studio regions are certainly mentioned and I feel regions must exist in version 9 to enable burning tracks to Cd from within Audio Studio. Ray Mac Norins wrote: I don't know if the CDArchitect thingy is of interest to you, Dane, but that was one of the parts of the bundle that Sony offered, that I bought into a few years back, when version 9 of the Pro version came out. I am digressing here and don't have anywhere near the knowledge that you have, judging from listening to some of your posts, so I will close; just wanted to offer another viewpoint on this subject! Unfortunately I have to say that I can see exactly where you're coming from and I'm nodding my head, just a money making exercise on behalf of Sony Software by the looks of things. As I detailed in a previous message to this list, you had to pay more than half the purchase price of Sound Forge Audio Studio for the MPg plug-in, what a joke! It seems that with Sound Forge Audio Studio these features have been removed so - given that - I have to ask myself the question, why bother with regions at all? What's the difference then in Sound Forge Audio Studio between regions and reference markers? As far as I can tell there are absolutely noe. For your reference, you can put a Reference marker anywhere in your project - no matter what mode you're in - - by pressing the M key. So again, another reason to stay away from Sound Forge Audio Studio in my humble opinion, with those useful region tools removed I see little point in the software, Goldwave has a similar feature to Sound Forge's regions in the form of Cue points, highly useful and further more they can be shared amongst applications that support cue files, you can edit them in a text editor and so on so another damn great reason to purchase this product. And as a final sorry note on Sound Forge Audio Studio, this version seems far less accessible than past versions of the software and I don't think its my imagination either smile though perhaps I'm just used to the excellent accessibility provided by Goldwave under Windows or amadeus Pro for the Mac smile. Goldwave Technical support brillant!
Hi! Can't speak highly enough of the customer or technical support - call it what you will - that I've experienced in the past few hours from the team at Goldwave. Had a couple of issues, one I thought might be a bug and another which was originally a feature request, turns out the feature is already in the software but one thing at a time. So to the possible bug? This turned out to be a miss-understanding of the Drop cue point function as described in the manual, the way the manual describes the function I was under the impression that using this function - either from the cue menu or by using ctrl-q - a cue point would be inserted at the current location of the cursor in the sound file. This is indeed true however this function only works as I just described it if you're in either the play mode - playing the sound file - or in pause mode, it doesn't work in stop mode, in stop mode a cue point is dropped at the location of a start marker, so far so good and the manual will be modified to make things a little clearer. Okay to the second point and this again is to do with cue points, I requested some way of deleting data between cue points and it turns out that there's a Select between cue points command, you could use this command to select the data between cue points and then delete that data with the delete key for example. Unfortunately this command is not - at this time - accessible with a Screen reader but there's a work around. Firstly, why would you want to delete data between cue points. Suppose for example you've recorded a TV programme, you wish to write the project to CD so you map out the start and end points of the various sections, the points between your sections are the commercials and you don't want them on your CD or don't want them in your finished project so here's where deleting data between cue points comes into its own smile. You can go into the Edit Cue Points and set start and finish markers at various cue points by scrolling through the list of available points and using the options presented in the context menus to manipulate the markers, then close the cue once you've everything set and press the delete key. An example of selecting data between cue points, the end cue point of section 1 and the beginning cue point of selection 2. Again, a a wonderful product is Goldwave and it can only get better I'm sure! ** Dane Trethowan From Melton Victoria Australia mailto:grtd...@internode.on.net Twitter: http://twitter.com/grtdane blog: http://www.grtdane.wordpress.com Phone United Kingdom 02032874641 Phone Australia 0390058589 Phone United States 8159261869 Fax: +61 3 9743 7954x MSN grtd...@dane-trethowan.net skype:grtdane12 ** To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
