Howard, are you sure your midi synth setting isn't muted in the volume control? If you've successfully played midi files in other players, then this suggestion is of course worthless. Just a thought. Thanks Larry. There is no setting for midi in my volume control. I did get it to play after digging around in the sounds and audio section of the control panel. I don't know which setting I changed, but now it plays. Now, only a minor annoyance, midi file start playing at a lowered volume. The up arrow brings it back up. This does not happen on mp3 files. I also changed winamp's plug-in to nulsoft direct sound output which still lets it play. I found that the fading on pause and seek, which was what I didn't like about the plug-in, could be turned off in the plug-in configuration. Now I'm happy again. Thanks to all who helped.
