Radio KNX, KFI Etc

2014-02-06 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

I have a question.

Does anyone on this list liv in Hawai? If so can they confirm something for me?

One of my hobbies is DX - Long Distance - radio listening.

At one time quite some years ago I received KNX 1070 whilst visiting a town
called Taree which is on the coast of New South Whales.

A friend of mine in the States has suggested that people in Hawai can listen to
KNX very clearly in the daytime and that's an incredible feat given that the
distance between LA and Hawai is over 2,400 miles, does anyone know if this is
in fact true and what sort of reception do you get?

I totally agree with you, but you can't buy it in Germany anymore and I
don't know how to get by the encryptions because all I want is to rip my own
DVDs to mp3s so that they are more accessible and I can listen to them on my
mp3 player.

Any ideas what I could do?

Hi,
Another aproach is to buy and install any dvd as most movies are encrypted
nowadays.

Then an old baby like dvd shrink can do the actual ripping.
But as i've stated earlier it's much more efficient to not rip, but simply
copy over the entire disk to your harddisk and play the contents from
there, with a player of your favorit choice. Or if you want one single
file for the disk use an image program, and create a full disk image.
Physical hard drives are so inexpensive today that you probably can have
your intire collection on one single 3 or 4 tb drive, and what's more
importent with no loss of quality.

Any DVD HD can even do the whole ripping job for you, and at the same time
remove the encryption.

Best regards
Brian

I use DVD Shrink; it's old, but rarely fails. Allows you to only
pick parts of the disc (like the main film but miss out the
trailer, for example) and choose things like which subtitle or

ALso, as the name suggests, will if needed compress the video so

Yes colin I figured you did.
It's not easy to describe pitch and music keys. Pitch can be a given
frequency, and you wouldn't say that something was in a higher pitch,
but you might ask a singer if they can pitch a particular note.

Just for the sake of accuracy, I thought I'd mention it. I should have
taken it off list though, sorry 'bout that.

Kind regards,

Dowcast

2014-02-06 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

Finally managed to get around to playing with the Downcast App for both Mac and
IOS, this App is a very accessible Podcast manager, a bit like Juice for
Windows I think it was called.

Its clear from a glance at the Apps for both operating systems that the
developers have done a super job with accessibility though this is also
probably due to the excellent feedback the developers got from other users and
the developers willingness to make changes where appropriate.

The Interface from first looks is simple enough, select the type of Podcast you
wish to subscribe to on the left and a directory sorted by that category
appears on the right, select the Podcast you wish to subscribe to and job done,
note that if you're using both Mac and IOS Apps the data is synced in the Cloud
so your choice of Podcasts moves with you wherever you go.

I'm still exploring both Apps and I'm sure there's far more to Downcast than
I've written here but I think this is a good start smile, perhaps others on
this list have used this worthwhile App, I'm not much of a Podcast listener so
I've not used it up until now but the outlay for both Apps was certainly worth
it.

Open playlist editor with alt-e, then ctrl-tab over to that window.
Hit shift-l to open the directory tree view. Then you will simply be able to
pick the folder you need. Then you're done...you can cycle through the list
with the arrows, or use the b, z, etc keys.

If winamp doesn't recognise the order properly, you may as well add them
manually with l instead of shift-l.

Hope that's reasonably clear.

Subject: Will Switch Convert MOV Files

 Hello List:  I got a file today that I was able to put on the computer;
problem is, the extension is .mov! It doesn't play that well; I was
going
to try and convert it to an MP3 file. However, Switch doesn't show it!
So
does this mean that Switch won't deal with these types of files? I am
using
the non-pay version on Windows 7-64 bit, with the latest version of Jaws
 15.

Well then I may be out of luck with this file (it doesn't seem to want to
let me email it) when I hit the thing that says send to email recipient,
Outlook just plain won't come up!

Hi. I've looked at the file types in the paid for version and it doesn't
list that extention I'm afraid. Walter.
