free VPN

2014-11-01 Thread André van Deventer
Hi all

For a few years now I have been using Witopia as a VPN service to enable me
to listen to bbc radio five live and five live extra for especially rugby
union and grand prix action. These broadcasts were often not available
outside the UK so you needed a VPN to listen to them.

Unfortunately due to financial circumstances I cannot afford Witopia anymore
but would dearly love to access the sport stations from the BBC.

Was just wondering if anyone knows of a free VPN somewhere that I could use
although I doubt whether such a thing exists.

Regards

Andre

2014-11-01 Thread Dane Trethowan
Before I started using Witopia I did use Hotspot Shield but bare in mind that
it places ads on your desktop and this can make access tools such as Screen
readers behave unpredictably at times.

Also note that you have to renew the connection after an hour.

The last time I used Hotspot shield I couldn’t access the list of countries
through the client though this may have changed.

I’m talking about the free Hotspot Shield of course and not the paid one.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re unable to use Witopia due to your circumstances,
I’ve tried plenty of VPN providers in the past ad I would have to say that
Witopia is about as good as I’ve found that you can get, 24/7 live tech
support, extensive tutorials and guides on setting up your VPN, unlimited data
transfer and so it goes, I have the Pro account and I pay around $60 a year I
think it is, there’s a cheaper account for $35 a year though it has limitations
and I’m not sure exactly what those are as I write this but you can find all
the details at http://www.witopia.net http://www.witopia.net/

I will not voluntarily change from witopia. Just like you I have found them
excellent and really have no complaints about the service at all.

But the circumstanc3es are unfortunately beyond my control.

And the thing is that the only reason I would use it is to listen to the
bbc!!

Victor Reader Stream

2014-11-01 Thread Dane Trethowan
Okay I’m swallowing my pride, I’ve ordered a victor Reader Stream - current
model, I have one of the older versions which I really should put in the
recycle bin without any further ado -.

So, I know many of you have these devices, is there anything I should look for
in particular? Are their any features or functions that are really useful or
that you really like? How well does the Internet radio work?

Of course the only thing that might annoy me is the fact that I probably won’t
be able to get the Stream going behind my VPN? Well I’m going on assumption at
the moment smile.

I've used MP3 Tag Studio for years, built by Magnus Brading. I forgot now how
much the full version costs, but if you learn the interface and set it up
correctly, it saves you hours of tagging. You'll want to do some experimenting
on a folder of files that are not that important. I'd suggest using a temp
folder that's easy to get to for this project type of work.

2014-11-01 Thread Merv Keck
Hi,

Back in 2013 I purchased this one for about $45 US

ViewHD Universal HDMI to Composite / S-Video Converter

However, that item has been discontinued and they keep trying to point me to
something that does not have it's own power supply and I am not confident
that it would work as well. This worked great on my 55 inch television with
the red, white, and yellow inputs until I replaced it with a newer 60 inch
Samsung television that has HDMI inputs. Actually someone else replaced the
television and I hate it with the fire of a thousand suns but that is not
the point, laughs!

Perhaps yuou can locate this model somewhere locally or on a list somewhere.

Hope that helps,

Merv

Hi.

I'm also looking for a tagging program. Winamp was great, because you could
have an empty tag, and it would fill it with what it thought was correct. It
was sometimes way off, but for the most part it worked well. From my
experience, programs like Mp3 Tag require some information in the tag to work.
Too bad Sound Hound doesn't have a program for the PC. It has the basic
features that would automate this work.

Just curious.

Follow-up: Free CD Ripping Software

2014-11-01 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

Someone on list asked about free CD Ripping Software a little while ago, I
answered with iTunes though of course I didn’t realise at the time that there’s
probably an even better answer built right into Windows itself which I assume
the questioner was using.

The answer of course is Windows Media Player which - when I last tried it - was
very accessible indeed.

I didn’t follow the conversation at the time so perhaps someone else on list
suggested Windows Media Player anyway.

Works well with most networks, providing they don't use a web

I used the Capture FaceTime feature in Audio Hijack Pro on the Mac to record

I’m using my iPhone with FaceTime in the sample.

I Dial my VoiceMail using FaceTime, FaceTime dials using the iPhone and the
audio of the iPhone - through FaceTime - is output through my Headset.

You hear me speaking through the microphone of the Headset when I leave a

You’ll also hear Voiceover on the Mac in the background in parts.

Anyway enjoy, I hope you find it interesting.

Re: Victor Reader Stream

2014-11-01 Thread Gary Schindler

Ad for the Victor StreamNew Generation, I like the one I have.

It works for most every kind of stream except flash. I was surprised to
learn the player supports AAC streams, which the Plextalk and APH units
don't and probably never will.

If the stream doesn't play, it will say something like, stream failed to
start, by the same token however, The Plextalk and Aph players get locked
up when the stream won't play, so you have to fiddle with it or get
disgusted with it enough that you remove the battery and Wait a few minutes
so you can start the players again. It is not always feasible to carry a
little screwdriver with you to take the battery out of the Bookport Desktop.
