Re: Another question about the Olympus DM5
Hi, you first have to sort out the USB issue, once the pc can see it, then we can get the voice files back. I'm not sure why the pc don't pick it up, try connecting after the formatting, if not, try to remove any unused drivers from the device manager, providing that you no its not being used by windows. Sorry I cannot be of to much help in that regard. I can help you to get the voice files back, but in order for that to work, the recorder must be picked up by the pc. Goodluck. First to get my voice guide backc and second to connect it to my Windows 7 laptop? Cheers. Alex. I also were able to set the recording timer, alarm and using the skedular or calendar easily. Its truly the most accessible ever. On 27/11/2014, Walter Ramage w...@blueyonder.co.uk wrote: Hi. Well, where do I begin. I think I'm very spoiled because I have a 20gig Creative Zen touch mp3 player. This player is magnificent when it comes to sound quality but I'm not able to use it because I can't find the Win7 drivers for the player so I can load it with music. I think it is designed for XP users only. Giving I can't use it I was hoping the DM5 would have good sound reproduction and although it is reasonable at a push, it doesn't compare to the Zen Touch. My disappointment was compounded when I compared it with my mobile phone player which is superior to the DM5 in sound quality. The DM5 spoken menus are inadequate. It tells you the track name but you get very little info of how many tracks you have on the player. For example if I decide to play music by selecting artist then it doesn't give me the number of tracks in any particular artists folder and also when I arrow up and down the list, the reaction time is very slow and that is with speeding up the voice guidance. I'm inclined to just use my mobile for music listening unless I can get a better player that will give me very high quality sound reproduction. Oh, nearly forgot, I have to increase the volume to nearly full to get a good level of volume, it seems the DM5 output signal is a low one. It would seem to me that the player is truly meant as a portable recorder and the music player function is an afterthought. This player has never really been used, I'm just getting to grips with it. I bought it a couple of years ago and it has lay in an equipment box ever since and not been touched but maybe I'll consider selling it. RE: netflicks
Steve, Did you browse categories on ios or did you just search for something using the edit box? I haven't tried it on Android recently, but with ios, there is this weird slide thing you have to do in order to get stuff on the screen so you can double tap what you want. Flicking and finding the title does not work, because focus does not follow as you flick through items that are actually off the screen. The regular voice over with ios way of scrolling doesn't work either. Last time I tried it on Android, browsing didn't work either for the same reason; you can't flick through to see all the stuff in a given category you're trying to browse. But as I say, I have not tried that in a long time, so perhaps they fixed it on Android? Various people on other lists I'm on have also reported issues with trying to find specific episodes within a season of a tv show. So when we say stuff is or isn't accessible, then maybe it will help to specify the actions that were taken or the part of the app that was used, so we're all on the same page. Mary
RE: netflicks
Hi Mary, Android is fine when browsing through categories and I can even select episodes. As for iOS, I believe that is an iOS 8 bug, not a problem of Netflix. There are several apps where VO doesn't follow focus. RE: net flicks
Hi, I generally use Netflix on the Apple TV so as to take advantage of voice Over. However, I have noticed that accessibility has deteriorated in both the iPhone app as well as on the PC web browser side of things. About two months ago a new series was supposed to show up on Netflix or should I say a series new to Netflix and it did not show up on the Apple TV. Because the web site is so convoluted it took me about an hour to get through all those taste profiles or whatever all that new distraction type crap is called and just get in to find out if it was indeed added like it was supposed to be. Then once I found that it was indeed there it took me another half an hour to find the correct link in order to add it to my list because it is not as simple as it used to be where you just added shows or movies to a list of shows and you could move their order up and down by simply changing the number in an edit box. And all the while it kept nagging me to rate movies I had no interest in watching. And all this was for a series someone else in the household wanted to check out not even me, smile! So yes I think Netflix has lost some accessibility ground. Part of it though I think is just poor site programming. Merv

Hi Steve, Nope, Apple have fixed the VO focus problem. This netflix issue predates ios 8 by a long, long time. There is a podcast on applevis done by somebody who goes over the convoluted way you must deal with netflix category browsing if you can get the hang of it. Even with the vo bug in ios8, for those apps that had the flicking problem, it was still possible to use the standard VO gesture to get to the page you wanted and then find the link or button or whatever to double tap. That can't be done with netflix, so far as I am aware, unless you master the unorthodox, dare I say, nonstandard, method Netflix has chosen for its app. Mary
Re: Problem with using the t d k a34 speakers.
Hi there! I’m reading a review of the unit at the moment, doesn’t seem bad for $130 price tag. The A34 is clearly designed for mobile use but it does have an Aux Input on the right-hand side under the rubber cover so perhaps you might save yourself some time and worry by just running a cable from the headphones out of your Windows PC to this? certainly you’ll most likely notice some benefits if you wire the Speaker this way, no delay between actions which can sometimes be caused by Bluetooth, no dropouts etc. On 30 Nov 2014, at 4:47 pm, Carliss seeje...@satx.rr.com wrote: a34 blue ** Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 faceTime +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 Twitter: @grtdane

I’ve test one though it wasn’t in the style of the JBL set I think we’re discussing here, the Braven speaker I had was a single unit whereas these speakers are a pair it seems? Re: Wireless Speakers Comparable to JBL ON Tour
Yep! I have a Breven 850 I think it is, had it now for 18 months and there’s quite a lot to like about the speaker. Firstly the sound is pretty good - though not as good as the Bose Soundlink Mini -. Having said that the Braven can be expanded, that is to say if you have 2 or more Braven Speakers they can be linked together in a Daisy chain. The Speakerphone part is pretty good but I reckon the Yamaha MPX100 is still by far the best hands free speaker in a small device. RE: netflicks
Which apps? The focus problem I was referring to was the one where you couldn't access an item by flicking to it, if the item wasn't actually showing on the screen. So you thought you had focus because VO said the thing you wanted, but double tapping didn't do what you expected. That has been fixed in the apps I use. Netflix, on the other hand, has had this nonstandard way mf scrolling that has been problematic for Voice over since at least IOS7. If you're talking about the occasional focus screw ups that happen, not involving flicking from one item to the next, then I agree. There can still be problems. But this seems to be intermittant, only happening on certain sites, for instance, when using the twitterific built in browser, but not on others. The system-wide flicking focus problem is fixed, at least for me. If you still have problems, I'd be curious what apps. Mary

Yes I’d imagine you’re probably right, our dollar is not the same as the U.S. for one thing and then there are other factors, shipping to Australia being one, fact that more units can be sold in the U.S. here and so forth, no good whining about it, that’s just the way it is. I’m thinking about what it costs to get things shipped to me from the U.S. and that really adds to the cost of an item, the CC Sw I doubt I’ll have change over $200 Australian for.
