RE: Echo Tap initial impressions

2017-02-14 Thread Merv Keck
Hi,
Good luck with your Echo Tap. I live in a two bedroom, two bathroom
apartment. I do not own an Echo product. However, someone else in the
apartment does. Today I was all the way on the North end of a very quiet
apartment and I thought I heard one of my neighbors talking outside. When
she was still babbling over a half an hour later I was a little annoyed as I
was enjoying the quiet. A few minutes later I got up and moved to the South
side of the apartment and very quickly realized that the voice was Alexa
reading a book in a room I seldom enter. I told her many times to stop and
even to shut up. And she ignored me. Laughs! About five hours later her
owner came home and she finally stopped. I don't know what set her off but
if that happens tomorrow someone is getting unplugged. Maybe Alexa too.
Laughs!

Yes, the Tap did that when I first connected it to the Wi-Fi network during
setup.

Yep good question and I'm not exactly sure of the answer either.

One thing I can certainly tell you is that updates are downloaded
automatically but I don't think you're notified when your device is
updating or has updated.

I'm sure I've seen an Update Firmware link on the Amazon Echo home page
somewhere too.

Subject: Amazon Echo Dot

I took delivery of mine yesterday and I couldn't be happier with what
this device does.

Of course - having read a lot of information published about the Echo
Dot onlisnt and from other sources plus actually having an Echo myself -
I pretty much knew what to expect however I've never seen a hockey puk
before in my life and an Echo Dot is supposed to resmble a puk? Well I
can't vouch for that myself .

Anyway its simple enough, just an Audio output jack - not sure whether
it supports digital Optical out but I suspect not - and a Micro USB port
for power.

On the top of the device are 4 buttons, volume up/down, microphone
on/off and the "Action" button.

I Was warned that the Internal speaker of Dot wasn't anything flash
though I didn't expect it to be given the size of the Dot but its
certainly listenable enough if all you're planning to do is talk to Dot
and receive feedback, you'll certainly want something better to stream
to using Bluetooth or to connect to Dot if you're planning on listening
to music.

So to my question, I believe I have the 2016 model Echo Dot, what's the
difference between the 2016 and Second Generation of Dot?

My gf has been notified when my echo dots get an update. I have not heard it
myself yet, when I first got my echo dots it did say they were receiving an
update.

Yes, you can force an update, but I'd have to google how, but I have done it
before and it can be done.

Amazon Echo Tap

2017-02-14 Thread Dane Trethowan

Hi!

I believe there are some list members from the UK who have the Amazon
Echo Tap.

A friend of mine living in teh UK would like to know where other UK
residents managed to get an Echo Tap from? Friend tells me that they're
not readily available?

I wouldn't know of course given that I'm in Australia and bought all my
Echo devices locally.

Hi Christopher.

Normally I wouldn't of course, butall of the audience had a little to drink
before and during the performance and I suppose I just got too excited,
haha.

Hi again all.

I would have sent this request to the Goldwave list, of which I am a
member, but have lost their email address.

But this enquiry is also very much a PC Audio question and I'm sure there
are members who could put me straight.

I recorded my local quire using my Zoom and ended up with a large WAV
file.

I know how to chop it up into tracks using GW, but, and I need to be
honest here, I was rather drunk when I was recording the concert and
sitting too closely to my tripod, so this lovely recording is runed by the
loud shouting and clapping from a drunk and I want to cut, me, out!

I've got a copy of John Wilsons book concerning goldwave editing commands
and what it says is place a left bracket at the start of the offending
piece of recording and then a right bracket, at the end of it and then
simply press the delete key and the offensive material should be deleted.

Problem is when I do this I delete all of the file completely.

I cannot find the left or right bracket keys on my keyboard, but I have
found the left and right perin keys. Are they not the same thing guys or
am I missing something?

Any advice with this one would be fantastic as I really did mess up much
of the recording with my enthusiasm and apart from my audio presence, the
recording turned out rather very nice.

Very best wishes.

Andy.

Hello Andy:

The [ key is to the right of the P and the ] the next one to the right.
You
could see what is selected before erasing it, if memory serves the
keystroke
for it is Control [, if not, possibly Alt [ but at any rate, you can
verify

it with Insert-H.
