RE: Wireless headsets

2006-12-28 Thread Adrian Beech
G'day,

Do you have the GN9350 or an earlier model? I'm trying to find out if the
headset shows up as a standard wave device when connected to the PC via USB.
Can you perhaps enlighten me on this point?

Cheers.

I have a GN NetCom and it works very well. There is good audio and its
posible to stay more than 100 meters away from the computer. The battery
have capacity for more than 2 days. I have heard many people use a wireless
phone for Skype and amateurradio with very good results. The wirelees
skypephones is low cost and have a connector for a headset on the handset.
The GN NetCom is more expensive. I was lucky to find a second hand.

Creating a CD using WMA lossless files and the resulting audio quality?

2006-11-04 Thread Adrian Beech
G'day folks,

Okie this might seem like a daft question...

Can anyone confirm if a CD created from tracks in a WMA lossless format
(originally ripped using Windows Media Player 10.0) has the same audio
quality as that of the tracks from the original CD? For example, if I use
either WMP 10.0 or Nero 6.0 to reconstitute the CD using the WMA lossless
files do I end up with an exact replica of the original CD in terms of audio
quality, etc?

Cheers.

RE: A T T Rockbox sound files.

2006-04-05 Thread Adrian Beech
G'day,

From what I understand because of licensing related issues the ATT voice
files cannot be made publically available from the RB site. Nor are these
files allowed to be distributed either if you produce the content your self.

Well as I said that is my understanding which is based on postings to the RB
mail list a few months back.

It may be worthwhile checking out the documentation on how to create the
voice files yourself!

I would suggest that if you haven't bought the C Crane transmitter yet.
consider the fm transmitter that radio shack sells first. it has in my
mind
better coverage around the house. there is no whip antenna to get broken,
and you don't have to remove any plates and adjust any screws to make it
more powerful. my dad bought one and I tried it out when he was here. the
unit can plug into your soundcard and take up little space.

What variant of the Audigy do you have and what inputs does your 5.1
control box use? One thing to do after you have everything installed
is to uncheck AC3 decoding under the Audigy and let the external
decoder do the work. A techie from Yamaha mentioned a while back that
the Soundblaster does some weird manipulation and the signal it
presents to the controller isn't quiet up to snuff.

RE: hooking up a sound blaster audigy to a 5.1 stereo?

2004-08-22 Thread Adrian Beech
What variant of the Audigy do you have and what inputs does your 5.1 control
box use? One thing to do after you have everything installed is to uncheck
AC3 decoding under the Audigy and let the external decoder do the work. A
techie from Yamaha mentioned a while back that the Soundblaster does some
weird manipulation and the signal it presents to the controller isn't quiet
up to snuff.

Hi, just thought I'd add to this,
one track took 9 minutes to rip, why? this is most frustrating. If anyone
has any ideas I'd appreciate them. Tessa

Subject: getting headphones to work with an audigy 2 soundcard

Hi all, could anyone tell me the layout of the sockets at the back of the SB
audigy 2 card? furthermore I'm having trouble getting my headphones to work
from the sound card. I don't know what the problem is, but I've only
managed to get them working quietly, and only through 1 channel. Which
socket should I be using, and (like the line
out) do I have to enable the headphones option in the setup somewhere?

Thanks,

Rob

Linux tools to do ripping, encoding and other audio related activities?

2004-07-16 Thread Adrian Beech
Hi ppl,

I'm looking for some Unix (ummm, Linux) based tools that will do ripping
from a CD, encoding between audio formats and in general handle other audio
related activities. Can anyone suggest something which might fit the bill?

Thanks if you can help.

Hi All,

I've just purchased Nero 6 Ultra Edition, and have a couple questions.

Do I need any sighted assistance to install it or is the install pretty
streight forward?

I seem to remember that there is a tutorial for Nero somewhere, can anyone
tell me how to obtain that

? Or, at least, does anyone have a list of keyboard commands that I'll
need?

All assistance will be appreciated.

RE: Information About Monkeys Audio

Without trekking over to the site in order to hunt down the info can anyone
here enlighten me as to the potential compression ratio?

Monkeys Audio is an audio format that allows WAV files (and possibly files
of other audio formats) to be compressed without any loss of sound quality
that was in the original file. If you compress a file using Monkeys Audio
you can convert it back to the original audio format without any loss in
sound quality. There is a lot more information at the Monkeys Audio home
page at www.monkeysaudio.com.

RE: WINAMP

Out of the box the answer is no. There is apparently a plug in that you can
buy which lends itself to simulated surround sound. Never got to find it
six months back though :-(
