Re: Still Looking For Help With Winamp

2012-07-05 Thread Arthur Barney

Hi Tom,
uninstall Winamp, and make sure you delete the Winamp directory in the
program files on your C drive.
After that install Winamp version 5.6, which can be gotten on the Winamp
site.

Hello Joe and list: I also have been consulting another list! After
looking around, I finally found where to switch from "Direct Sound to
"wave output (and vise versa) no soap! If I switch to "Wave output (which
actually did resolve the problem) but then if I turn Winamp down, I turn
everything down, which I don't want! So I had to switch back over to
"direct sound!" As for unloading Jaws as you suggested, again no soap!
When Jaws is unloaded, there seems to be no way to use the arrow keys or
anything else! Since Winamp is my default player, I've not tried Windows
Media; I'm not even sure that you can fast-forward through a file with
Windows Media anymore (I do know that you cannot go back) I also know that
you cannot go directly to a certain spot in a file with Windows Media like
you can with Winamp; these are reasons why I prefer Winamp over what few
audio MP3 players I have used! I do appreciate all of your efforts to try
and help! Hopefully (one way or another) I'll get this resolved and will
report back to you if and when I do!

This was a long shot. it may have no bearing on your problem at
all.

start winamp. remove JFW. then see if you can navigate the track data in
winamp.

Had any luck with the output pluggins?

any luck with fast forwarding in WMP?

You could try an alternative output pluggin.
go to prefferences control-p, press letter P till you hear plug ins,
press O till you hear output, then tab to the list, there is a
waveout, and a direct sound.

Select the plugin that is diffedrent to the current one, tab to close

see houw your audio sounds after this change.

Then maybe try playing the same file in, for example, windows media.

don't know how you fast forward in WMP though.

TVonics team with RNIB and IVONA for set-top box for the blind and partially
sighted By Gerald Lynch on May 3, 2012

TVonics have teamed up with the Royal National Institute of Blind People
(RNIB) and software
developers IVONA to develop an updated version of their DTR-HD500 aimed at
blind and partially sighted people.
Using text-to-speech technology, the updated box is easier to navigate for
those with poor eyesight, with audio descriptions of both the TV shows being
broadcast and descriptions of the box's navigational features.
"We were delighted to work with TVonics and IVONA to create a mainstream set
top box, which is fully accessible," said Fazilet Hadi, Group Director of
Inclusive Society at RNIB.
"This is the first box which will allow blind people to independently record
programmes and pause live TV. This box will enable people with sight loss to
get a great digital TV experience without paying a premium."
"IVONA is proud to partner with TVonics and RNIB to give blind and partially
sighted people access to the exciting and informative world of Digital TV ",
added Lukasz Osowski, CEO of IVONA Software.
"Using the world's most natural-sounding Text-to-Speech voices for this
ground-breaking Audio Description (AD) tool means that a huge new audience
will now be able to enjoy the TV experience with the click of a button."
The DTR-HD500 with the new text-to-speech software pre-installed can be
bought directly through RNIB's website, www.rnib.org.uk, for £179.95. The
box updated box will also be available through John Lewis stores and TVonics
own website, but the RNIB's instructional manual will have to be purchased
through the RNIB.

From May 3rd all new products manufactured by TVonics will have the

text-to-speech software
installed. If you already have a TVonics DTR-HD500 or DTR-Z500HD, you can
grab the software for free from the RNIB and TVonics websites.

Magic DVD

here's Magic DVD, with serial, which is in the log folder.
Don't update after installing.

OK folks. I guess I had better explain this. Someone on this list a
while

back asked for recommendations for ripping DVDs. I was one of the
responders and recommended Magic DVD. Arthur then sent me a copy of Prism
and I've installed it and have it up and running. However I've been
communicating with Arthur privately about the use of this programme. I
have

a BBC DVD box set I want to rip to my PC. When I used Prism I got the
message it couldn't open the file and the reason might be it is probably
encrypted. I then tried with a DVD my PA brought in with her and I tried
ripping that with Prism and got the same message. Arthur gave me some
advice but that didn't work either and I still get the same message. I
have

the trial version of Magic DVD installed and that ripped the video my PA
brought with her although the quality was garbage, I need to tweak the
settings. I'll do that once I decide if I'm going to buy it or not.
Magic

DVD ripper says they have incorporated inscription busting properties in
their programme and they can be updated. I was wondering if perhaps the
problems I'm having with Prism is due to the programme not having the
ability to negate encryption on the disc and that was the point of my
original mail. I couldn't remember Arthur's email address and lazily just
did a reply to the mail he posted here forgetting the email would go to
the

list and not to Arthur alone. It could be that part of the problem I'm
having with Prism is my not knowing how to use it properly, the help files
didn't give a great deal of help but in truth, I don't know the reason.
Walter.

Magic DVD Copier or Magic DVD Ripper have absolutely nothing whatever to

with Prism Video Converter, Prism converts DVD formats, Magic DVD Copier
copies DVD's and Magic DVD Ripper Rips DVD'S to your computer .

Well Sound Forge came bundled with a program called CD Architect, but I
never found the CD Architect program to be accessible. Thus, for years
now,
I've had to split the files with the tool inside of Sound Forge. I'd like
an

easier way as well.

Hello all.
Well, I cannot highly recommend the program listed in the subject
enough!
Here was my scenario.
I wanted to watch a DVD, Toy Story 3, on my Windows 7 64 bit laptop.
The

DVD
has audio description. Anyway, I tried playing it with Media Player
Classic
Home Cinema, a DVD and general media player that comes with the
Combined

Community Codec pack. Well I couldn't get as far as the menu could I!
Plus,
the menu system of the application completely disappeared! So next I
tried
VLC Media Player. This was slightly better in that I could get at least
the
first chapter of the DVD played. But when it moved onto the next
chapter

it
repeated the first one! So finally, I tried to play it with DVD Audio
Extractor. It worked a treat!
The entire DVD played fine with absolutely no problems!
So my recommendation for a fully accessible, easy to use DVD player,
which
also happens to extract audio, is DVD Audio Extractor,
www.castudio.org.

Unless there is another similar DVD player out there that is just as
fully
accessible and easy to use, I might consider purchasing the program!
Hope you like my recommendation, and happy viewing!

Hi Hamit,
the program that I sent you, will rip the movie off the DVD in AVI, MP4, and
MP3, and many other formats.
If you want to get to the DVD, when you open the program, press alt D, then
press OK, but make sure you have the DVD in the computer when you do it.
It will also convert files after you ripped the DVD into the format that you
chose, same as I mention above.

Hello all.
Well, I cannot highly recommend the program listed in the subject
enough!

Here was my scenario.
I wanted to watch a DVD, Toy Story 3, on my Windows 7 64 bit laptop. The
DVD
has audio description. Anyway, I tried playing it with Media Player
Classic
Home Cinema, a DVD and general media player that comes with the Combined
Community Codec pack. Well I couldn't get as far as the menu could I!
Plus,
the menu system of the application completely disappeared! So next I
tried
VLC Media Player. This was slightly better in that I could get at least
the
first chapter of the DVD played. But when it moved onto the next chapter
it
repeated the first one! So finally, I tried to play it with DVD Audio
Extractor. It worked a treat!
The entire DVD played fine with absolutely no problems!
So my recommendation for a fully accessible, easy to use DVD player,
which
also happens to extract audio, is DVD Audio Extractor, www.castudio.org.
Unless there is another similar DVD player out there that is just as
fully
accessible and easy to use, I might consider purchasing the program!
Hope you like my recommendation, and happy viewing!

According to the web page
http://www.soundtaxi.org/soundtaxi_audio_conversion_Audible.php this is
supported. I'm not saying it doesn't violate your terms of condition
with Audible, but at least according to the Sound Taxi web site, this is
technically possible. I also noticed that Quicktime is a prerequisite
for Sound Taxi, so this also lends some credibility to that statement.

To test it, you can download Sound Taxi for free and use it in trial
mode. It's fully functional, but it'll only convert a few minutes of
audio. This is enough to see if it's going to work or not.

The Platinum version costs $20, but I'd suggest upgrading to the pro
version for $27. It's only $7 more, and the performance makes it worth
the price if you're going to be using Sound Taxi to convert more than
just a handful of files.

I assume these are DRM protected correct? If so, I used to use a program
called Sound Taxi when I converted DRM WMA books from Overdrive.com. I
assume it would work with Audible as well though. It is not a free
program though. The original setup required some use of the JAWS cursor,
but once it was set up, it was pretty much automatic.

If these aren't DRM protected then I used to use a program called Switch
from NCH. The free version of this program took care of all of my audio
conversion needs.

don't need: well..you can run it through this little program and get rid
of it! There are other uses for it as well, but I'll save that for others
who are more qualified to speak on this than I am!

Hi. You can't convert .RAR files to MP3. .RAR files are a kind of
digital

envelope. It is a compression tool for multiple file types. If you have
say 100 files you want to send to a friend, some might be WAVE, some mp3,
others might be .AVI or Flac etc. The point is you can compress all
these
files into one zipped file and in the process it compresses the files to
a

smaller over all size making it easier and more convenient to upload. To
compress and then extract the files you need a programme called either
.zip
or 7zip or winrar. Windows XP has a built in basic compression tool as
does

windows 7. Walter.

Something's wrong there, definitely. Try a program called WinLame. It's a
wizard interface, which steps you through each option. It's quite good for
something like this, especially when converting a whole batch of files.

An electric autoharp is a pretty good description. The autoharp is the
acoustic instrument on which the QChord was modeled, because of the chord
layout of the buttons on both instruments, and the strum plate on the
QChord, which mimicks the string bed on the autoharp. Shane Jackson did a
demo of the QChord on Blind Cool Tech, and that demo is here:

http://www.archive.org/download/ShaneJacksonbct376Qchord/bct376Qchord.mp3
I did a demo on the autoharp and its layout on BCT as well, and that link
is here:

http://www.archive.org/download/MatthewBullisbct355AutoharpDemo/bct355AutoharpDemo.mp3
Enjoy both recordings.
