Not long ago, my wife bought me an iPod touch for my birthday. Understandably
unaware that the 8 gig version of the Touch was never updated to Version 3,
she bought one. After all, on Apple's Canadian website, it was listed only as
current. Further, nothing on the box listed the item as version 2, a
version which many of us know to be unaccessible.

Since yesterday was Saturday, I spoke to Apple Support concerning my issue,
as Customer Service was closed. When I spoke to the agent who took my call, I
was told that information concerning the fact that the 8 gig touch had not
been updated to version three was all over the website. I would like to ask
him where such info is listed on the Canadian site, but instead I'll simply
take my case to Customer Service on Monday.

My advice to those who are interested in purchasing the touch? If you need
accessibility, purchase only version 3 of the Touch which comes in the 32 and
64 gig models. Anything less will not talk to you. And, so far anyway, it has
been my experience that Apple sees such problems as Buyer Beware. Hopefully
I'll be pleasantly surprised to learn that my problem is limited to one
isolated agent. Meanwhile, when buying a touch, make sure to get the right
 one.

world's first gesture-based screen reader, enabling you to enjoy the fun and
simplicity of iPod touch even if you can't see the screen.

Note that when I checked the specifications pages for the different models
of the iPod touch, I didn't see that they specifically noted whether the

for the Nano and the Shuffle, but not the iPod Touch.

As others have mentioned, I doubt they'll support VoiceOver on your model

Your warning about doing your homework before you purchase something is duly

 Hi everyone!

Its said that everyone should Expect the unexpected and that's precisely

A bit of background, I use a Windows PC and the best product around for
editing audio in a Windows Environment would have to be Goldwave, its a good
value for money editor and the author is going out of his way to make the
software totally accessible. Anyway I was on the Goldwave site today to
report an issue I was having and to see whether the issue could be resolved
or whether a workaround existed when I came across an interesting question
in the FAQ section of the support site, Is their a version of Goldwave
for the Mac? I looked up the answer and the answer was At this time their
is not a version of Goldwave available for the Mac OS, after this the site
presented me with several links to audio editing alternatives which included
Sound Studio and one I'd never heard of called Peaks Pro at
 http://www.bias-inc.com/products/

I downloaded the software and though I've played with it in a very short
space of time I can't help being impressed with what I've seen so far, Peaks
is a true Audio editing and Mastering tool with many features that only top
end sound production suites offer. As you'll see from the web site many
additional plug-ins and options are available to turn tPeaks into what would
seem to be an incredible home studio so if this software proves to be
accessible then we may be on a winner and I can only hope that the
developers will be interested in finding solutions to problems if indeed any
 exist.

So far I haven't had time to try and navigate round files but I can tell you
that toolbars seem perfectly accessible and the menu system is bursting at
the seams with a whole aray of features, commands, functions and options.

Unfortunately the manual for the product is not provided on your local
machine, its in a PDF document online and it seems to be protected in some
way, you can't download the manual you can only view it in Preview.

that's the quality of most cd recordings.

When I try to play a dvd, I hear skipping. The dvds are new so it can't be
that. I tried using one of those discs with the brushes to clean the cd
rom but I still have the same problem. It was suggested to me that I may
need to just buy a new cd rom. What do you all think? Thanks.

Let me ask my question a different way. after pressing control r and the
record window comes up. Shouldn't that window go away when I press r or
 alt
r to start the recording? If so then this is not happening when I press r
the record window remains and I see no sign of any recording being done.
I've only been able to record in version 5.

I could be wrong but I don't think that is a good idea.

If you go to the options menu and press enter on preferences, you will be
presented with a multi tab dialog.

The audio tab in that dialog is where one can change the playback and
 record
 devices.

Unless there is some compelling reason to use anything other than the
preferred audio device, the playback and record devices should be left as
the Microsoft wave mapper which is, in effect, the preferred audio device
 as
determined in the control panel of Windows.

Got it! But it says that the port that it needs to use isn't open.
 I'm
going into some muddy territory for me here. How do you open and map
 ports?
The exact number it wants to use is 23474. Also it has something for
 the
upload and download speeds and judging from the test I ran the
 results
 came
back that I normally run anywhere between 384 k for uploads and 512 k
 for
downloads. Don't quite get all of this just yet.

When I upgraded to winamp 5.24 I get this issue some times where i go to

horible noise and won't stop unless I restart the whole system.
Does anyone else have this problem and know what I can do about it?

Subject: Winamp and CD's; Strange Issue

 Hi All.

Okay, here's a strange one; maybe someone else has experienced this. I
now use Winamp for all of my ripping needs, as well as most of my audio
burning (I'm now using CDRWin for data burning since Easy CD Creator is no
longer accessible.). Ever since the 5.2 series came out, I've had a
rather strange problem. Often, when I put in an audio CD to play, the
whole system will freeze up if I load it in Winamp...Then, when I reboot,
it tells me that XP has recovered from a serious crash, and asks if I
want to submit an error report. When I do, it says an undertermined
driver caused the problem. Then, occasionally whenI'm ripping, after a
few CD's, Winamp will give an error saying it needs to close...When I
submit the error report to Microsoft, it claims NullSoft has created an
update which will fix the error, and gives me a link to click...This
simply takes me to the page to download the newest version of the player,
 which is what I have.

I have two CD/DVD drives, one of which is my burner. It doesn't matter
which drive I use; this can happen with either one. The odd part is that
I have no problem burning...Also, when I play a CD in another program such
as Windows Media Player, I have no problems. I simply prefer Winamp and
find it much more full-featured and easier to use.

Like I said, I've only encountered this problem since I upgraded to
 version 5.21; I'm on 5.24 now.

Anyone else having this problem, or know of a patch I can download? It's
a really irritating thing to have to deal with...Plus, when Winamp
crashes, it locks the CD drive up, so I have to reboot just to be able to
eject. Usually, if I put the disc back in and re-do my rip, it works just
fine...Winamp never gives me problems, like I said, when I'm burning CD's
or playing files from my hard drive...It's only when I'm popping in a CD
to play, or on occasion when I'm ripping...And it doesn't happen every
time. With the problem when playing, sometimes I can load three or four
CD's before I have a problem. With ripping, sometimes I can go through
twenty with no problems, but then the next three will give me trouble.

Very strange...Any help would be appreciated.

 Wes

I was running a Gateway PC with Windows 98SE as the operating system.

 Hello all,
Using Win/XP, Jaws 7.1, and Sound Blaster Live.
 Having a stereo balance problem.
In the play back settings the balance is set at 50 percent.
In the speaker settings, the setting is set at stereo desktop speakers.
I have gone through the test speaker utility, and it says all is working
 properly.
 Not really...
The sound comes out of right speaker very well, but not left. I have
 changed
the balance down to 30 percent on right and that seems to help a little,
 but
 makes right speaker sound garbled.
Any thoughts on how to make sounds come out both speakers, in stereo, and
 at
 the 50 percent levels?
 Thanks,
 Morey

I am a new user to Sound Forge, version 8 and to Sound forge, as
well. I notice that the program generates sfk files. Do I need to keep
 those?

 Hello List!

I recently purchased the Sam Encoder Bundle and installed it into Winamp.
Now, I can't seem to get the program to work properly. I set up the
program (configered it), but when I try to connect to the net with it
through Winamp, the start button and stop buttons are always unavailable.
I go to preferences in winamp, select dsp and the particular encoder I
want; then start playing songs in winamp, but I cannot connect through the
Sam Encoders. I can, however, connect to my server through the shoutcast
plug-in. I listened to Toonhead's program on the Sam Encoder. Once I set
it up, it has not worked for me. I'd appreciate some help with it.

Also, I did download and install the latest Shoutcast Plug-in. It too
gave me some trouble and is not as usable as the old one or maybe I just
 don't have it yet.

Help with the Sam Encoder would be very much appreciated.

 Hi,
Ever since I've upgraded to JFW 7.1, I've had this strange problem with
 bear share.
When I search for a song, or whatever- and press f6 to view the list, and
if there are songs, I can't aro through them. It gives me the ding sound,
 as if
I was at the bottom or top of the window when meanwhile there are 50 or so
 songs to choose.
Has anyone resolved this issue? Does anyone have it? I've had the program
on two computers, and I got this issue with both. (a desktop and a
 notebook).
 thanks

Well, I never thought I'd need this info because I haven't had trouble
 playing any files.

Today I received a disk in the mail containing a tutorial. I launched a
section of the tutorial in Winamp and found the quality very muffled and
 almost unlistenable.

I wonder if the disk is defective or if I should try working with the
equalizer? I tried opening the file in Windows Media Player; but it
 started
 in Winamp again.  This is no surprise because Winamp is my default player;
but now I want to try Media Player, at least for this disk. I don't want
 to
 change the default.

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. I'd hate to have to send
the disk back, but it really is poor, at least on my computer.

 Thanks as always in advance.

 Pam

this is why I was asking if anyone had actually got it to work.

as soon as I record a file, and hit enter on save as when I click on

soon as I hit save I hear jaws saying the file, file name, has been saved
 in a compressed format...
why would I hear that the file has been saved without it actually been

but when I go to the folder the file was to be saved in I hear no audio.
so why this premature announcement of file has been saved?

there are stations on 101.1 and 101.5, could my little home unit be safely

I don't think so.

Ibok is a propritary system and it requires that the step between two
 used
frequency on the FM band to be 400 KHZ.

while 400 KHZ step is probably used in the US, the FM band in Europe use
150 or 200 KHZ to accomodate more radio stations.

I know for sure that in France, the Ibok technology have little or not
supporter, only afew big commercial stations.

but we have a network of very little local stations for which this
technology is too expensive anyway and not realistic.

you know, the problem with the digital radio, no matter the technology,
is that you have to take in account the geographical side of the country
and the way analog frequency bands are currently used , available or not.

Very, very big sigh. Dab, or digital audio broadcasting is a form of
radio
popular in Europe and being introduced to most other parts of the
world...except North America. In North America, there is a completely
different form of digital radio branded HD radio, also known more
technically as Iboq. What this means is that in a few years time,
 you're
going to need one radio for the US and Canada, and another radio for
everywhere else. I suspect that after playing for a few years with this
nonsense, the US will go the way of the rest of the world, just as has
happened with GSM cell phones. You can now by HD radios in the US, I
 believe
I saw a very nice one on the cCrane Company web site. Some of the
 digital
radios will stream data that appears on a screen and I am not aware of
any
accessible means of getting to this with the US system. There is a
talking
DAB radio on the UK market now.
