I could take the list to Google Groups or some other
commercial e-mailing list if there is enough interest,

you need a plug in called Inlerec. If you would like I can send it to
you off list. Just let me know. You would take it and copy it into the
winamp plug in folder. Then when you want to use it in the playlist
editor just hit control l to open location and type in linerec:// the
first time and when you hit enter it will show up in the playlist
editor. You can move this up and down the list of songs to the place you
want to talk and then hit enter on the next track or hit b to move
forward when done. Any time you want to add it later it will be held in
the list of items you see when you hit control l from the playlist
window. Of course as usual do not do this from the main window like if
your adding a track from the main window it will take out all the files
you have in the playlist editor.

crashes and I get the send to MicroSoft message. I re-installed Winamp

this with Winamp 5.54? I am using JAWS as my screen reader if that makes

 Hi Kathy,

This can be controlled in the Winamp output plugin which you can access
via preferences. In the standard plugin, there is a
checkbox in the Other tab to remove silence from the start and end of
tracks. Alternatively, you can get the SQR Soft crossfade
plugin which you can configure to have the next track start as the
previous track is fading out, similar to how it is done on most
 radio stations.

Is there, in the world, something cheaper, which can allow me to
stream in real time, or when my computer is off, to broadcast
something pre-recorded, for 24 hours or for a certain amount of time?
A co-worker suggested me to use YouTube service, by creating a video

but this is quite a unhappy idea

Hi, Peter. Well, I'm getting acquainted with

www.live365.com

Which seems pretty blind-friendly, especially if you upload your programs
using Studio 365-Loader. You do have to pay a subscription to broadcast
(but not to listen, unless you want to support the broadcasters by spending
a little cash to be a premium listener.) I rather like it, so far.

Peace,

Hi, gang. My husband and I are setting up a station with Live 365 because
it's a good starter staion. I know it's not as advanced as others, but we
want to start somewhere. If anyone has used it or can point us to some
information that might make it easier for a blind person to use, could you

Thanks much!

Hi David,
Could you be more specific as to what you're looking for? Are you a
collector of station IDs and are looking for new material, or are you
looking for someone to produce something for you? If it's the latter, you
can check out my business website, www.kjsproductions.com where I've got
some demos of my work.
 Hope this helps.

Hi. Uh, you do have to be streaming something in order to be able to
listen. Your server *is* up, but you have to be broadcasting
something in order for people to listen. It's not enough that the
server is up and running.
Think of it like a radio station that's on the air but not
broadcasting anything. That's what this situation is like.

server
is up and you (and your listeners) can hear the content.

when you have checked the presence of laneenc.dll in the a g directory,
go to the option / mp3 settings menu
and select the audio format and encoder used from there.

lame is in the internal encoder and it's selected by default

Tagging and renaming are really two different functions. They cross
when you want to use elements from one object to create elements in
the other object. MP3 Tag Studio permits this quite easily and
effectively.

If you're looking for just a good file renamer that has absolutely
nothing to do with tags, try Jim Willsher's Bulk File Renamer. I
cleaned up 3000 files in a lunch hour one day just by properly
specifying what I wanted deleted from the filename string. You can use
it to insert characters at the any point in the overall name string,
make string replacements using either direct sring1=string2 or regular
expression syntax, operate on files, folders, or both, recurse folders
or not, ... a dozen different renaming operations in all, some of
which have several suboptions. A very blind-user-friendly piece of
software, and the best part, it's free! I just don't remember his web
site, but it's probably jimwillsher.com or something similar. Google
will find it for you. God, but what on Earth did we ever do without
Google!

Well, the bandwidth on hosting sites is usually measured by a monthly rate.
You would need a lot of gigs of bandwidth a month to stream.

Firstly, 250k bandwidth is grossly insufficient. Figure you'll want to
broadcast at a minimum of 56kbps, rounded up, call it 64. That means
you'll only have two, maybe three more blocks of 64kbps bandwidth to
let others listen to your station. Of course, if choose not to stream
live, that's another 64k block that a fourth user could use to listen
in with, but that's still not enough bandwidth. Cut thall of the above
in half if you want to go 128.

The other issue is, you'll need some software running on the remote
system to actually do the streaming. The provider of space for your
web site may or may not be down with this--in other words, they may
  not let you do it.

Oh waitaminit, I just re-read your message, you said they said it'd be
OK to run Icecast or something like it on their side. Remember that
if you do this, it'll in all likelihood be in a Unix environment, so
if you're not familiar with Unix basic concepts, like shells and text
editors and Telnet clients, you may have a bit of a learning curve to
conquer. Not everything is doable remotely and deliverable via FTP,
although most of your admin functions will be.

If running an Internet audio stream is something you really wanna do,
may I recommend, and not without prejudice (thanks for the promo
check, man!--ha ha), Jeff The Ultra Guy Harris and his fine suite of
services which'll give you exactly what you need--disk space,
bandwidth, and the ability to run your own software from the server
side. Then all you have to do is upload new material and playlists
every other now and then to keep the content fresh.

  Hope this helps.

if I could put my internet radio station on one of my personal web sites

upload my Shoutcast, Icecast, Windows Media, or Simplecast or even a
Real
Server to my web site and install them up there intheir respective
Program
Files directory and subdirectories? I figure they do it on Audiorealm
and
Streammadness and others, so why can't I do the same. I contacted
Startlogic and they told me I have something like 250 k of bandwidth on
my
web site. I actually have purchased four 15 gig web sites over the
years
and two of them are pretty much empty. How would I play my music from
my
computer through my web site. I should be able to use all of that
bandwidth for something. I am sure I could connect my music folder
through a plug-in to the sites, with the proper links. The reason I am
considering this move is because I tried to use
Spacialnet's streaming service, but just couldn't get it set up and they
are a bit slow in providing tech support to me. They did actually set
up
the account, but I can't gain access to the server file to configure it.
It is just too much trouble for me to deal with sites that don't work or
freeze when I use them. therefore, I am going to try to do it myself.
I
just want to know from you experts on technology and audio whether or
not
I can do it relatively cheap.

Also, am I correct in believeing that web sites are set up pretty much
like regular PC systems, with directories, etc. and all I have to do is
know how to do folders and links? I hope so.

Anyway, I figure I can dedicate one 15 gig web site to a station or two
if
this is permissible. I asked Startlogic and they said it is possible to
do and I can put anything I want up there that is proper and legal. I
would think those services like For-The-People, VIPconduit, and Audio
Tips
use separate web sites for their chat service and they allow audio
through
them too. I am just curious and interested.

One final thing on the question: Now, I'd like to use separate servers
and plug-ins for each station that I use--if I decide to have two or
three. How do I get multiple copies of the Shoutcast

Hi Linda.

I use windows media player to rip all of my music and then load it into a
great music management program called Audigen. Audigen is supplied by a
company called Red Chair Software and costs a measly $15. For that you get
a completely accessible interface and the ability to browse your collection
by artist, album, track or genre as well as being able to search, create
playlists, edit ID3 tags and produce reports in a variety of formats.

As far as portable players are concerned, I have a Creative Zen 20GB player
with an inline remote control to make it a little easier to operate. The
menus don't wrap on this player, you can have it click for each menu item
and, if you've got a good memory, navigate your music by artist, album or
track. Putting music on the player is a doddle as it's just a windows
explorer looking interface where you can use copy and paste to add music to
your player.

Regards.
