Gary,

Can you change the save location to somewhere like My Documents or
Desktop? These folders have read/write permissions by default in
Windows,

whereas the Audacity folder might not.

Here is a Microsoft article on changing folder permissions:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2623670/en-us#method11

When I record with Audacity I save to a folder I've created on the desktop
and there are no problems with permissions.

I have a program on my home PC that works well with JAWS 12. It is free and
you don't install it. You just unzip the files into a folder and run the
.exe file. I don't remember the exact name or web address but will send it
tonight sometime.

The web site even says it will extract audio from DVD's even if you have
multiple audio on the disc. I have not tried this, though. Just create a
folder and unzip the file into it. then go into that folder and enter on
AudioExtractor.exe

If you want a shortcut on the start menu or desktop you can go to the files
menu then to options and the program will set these shortcuts for you.

You just have to tab and make selections in the combo boxes for what you
want the program to do.

It doesn't. I certainly could replace the hardware, but that's not
the point. I want to do what I want to do with what I have. Of
course, if it comes down to it, I'll have to replace or augment the
hardware, but I'd prefer not to. My microphone is of sufficient
quality such that, with proper compression which I add locally, I can
use it as a very high-quality speakerphone type arrangement, it's just
that the fool thing is on all the time, audio coming through the
speakers causes the feedback I mentioned.

Why do you assume that one person equates to everyone? In your original
posting you don't mention what screen reader you're using or what OS
you're running. I'd suggest including this information when you're asking
for help trouble shooting problems in the future. That way you'll make it
easier when people go out of their way to help you and you'll be less
likely to get annoyed when these helpful people give you information that
doesn't apply to your situation.

Subject: Descriptive Video on Commercial DVDs and Downloads

Hi, folks.

I'm probably about to ask a question that's painfully obvious to many.
But I'm showing up at the descriptive video/SAP party much later than
some. I'm writing to the JAWS list because I am a JAWS user. I'm
writing to the Blind iPod list because purchasing video content on
iTunes is now accessible through use of the J-tunes interface. So I
hope others view this question as at least somewhat relevant.

I'm presuming, first of all, that most Hollywood feature films on DVD
come with a descriptive video track encoded somewhere on them. I'm
presuming the same could be true with downloadable films and TV shows,
too, as from iTunes. Certainly, most DVDs representing TV programs
where action was described in the first place, should have that same
DVS output on the subsequent DVD release. If this is true, I'm
wondering about the following:

1. How can I be sure, if a film or TV show is downloaded, to get the
download version that has descriptive video encoded? Is there a good
source for such material? Is there a way I can know for sure about
this feature before I buy?

2. When playing such downloaded or DVD content on the computer, is
there a software player that is fairly accessible and which also has a
menu option I can invok for activating or turning off the
descriptions? I've not seen this in RealPlayer or Windows Media
Player, but maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

3. Am I being completely naive here? Obviously, I know a lot of
stuff isn't accessible on its face, and I realize legislation in front
of Congress is attempting to make much of this universal. I've heard
of some people going to a place like the Serotek network to download
versions of films that have been uploaded specifically for those
wanting video description. But is this truly necessary? Or can the
same content be obtained through regular channels with just a little
bit of work on the part of the blind consumer?

Just trying to get a handle on this issue, for my own benefit and for
others I may encounter.

Kind regards,

-Kane

Yes I have used KBPiano for a few years. Now I can't comment on how well
it

will work with Jaws but I use it just fine with win-eyes. First make sure
you are in the main window of the program.
There is a music creator window but that window is not speech friendly so
you want to be in the untitled window. Lets now type control-p which will
put the program in practice mode. Press notes on the bottom of the
keyboard
and see if you hear sound. Press escape to cancel this window. If no
sound
is heard lets press The letter p and that will bring up a patch list
where
you select the instruments you'd like. This should at least get you
started

Dean but if you need more help Please drop me email and I'll help you.

Re: goldwave question

2008-05-03 Thread Gary Metzler
Hi rick,

I editted the batch file that you suggested in another message. The file
was registered fine but, it still doesn't show up in goldwave.
I move the freeverb folder into the program files folder and ran the batch
file. Help.

did you run the batch file provided with the plugin? I think that's
required to register it into the system.

Hi rick,

Yes I did get the message.
I think I solved my problem. I went into the settings tab under programs

Hi caroline,

I'm sorry I didn't get back with you sooner. I had a busy weekend. I tried

I had to re-install goldwave and now for some reason when I go to maximize
the volume the process starts immediately. Is there some setting that might

Hi, Gary. You can definitely set up your original file with a start
 marker.
that's what I do before starting a mix. I find it easier than trying to
 set
it up from the mix dialog. Also, a tip that I learned from
Bruce recently that I've found to be incredibly helpful is the fact that
 you
can set cue points while recording. Doing this allows me to jump to
specific places in the file during editing which really saves lots of
 time.
One thing to note with this though, the ability to set cue points during
recording was broken in an earlier release, (I believe it might have been
5.22 or 5.23, but it is most definitely fixed in 5.30.

Create your main recording with the speech. When you are ready to fade
 in
the music Pull up the music in a second window, select the amount of
 fade
in, copy the track, control tab to the speech track, press control m,
 this
opens the mix window where you can determine where the mix should start.

Have you tried Rick Harmon's tutorials for Gold Wave? I bet he covers this
 sort of thing.

 Hi.
The issue is probably that you need to have the microphone loopback
 enabled.
What you hear records what is being plaid over the sound card. The
microphone isn't being plaid over the sound card, so it doesn't get
 recorded
when you do this. To get the microphone to play what it is picking up
 over
the sound card as monitor mode, go to run and type sndvol32 and hit
 enter.
now that you're in the volume control hit alt+p for properties. Press
 tab
and hit down arrow till you hear adjust volume for playback. Tab till
 you
land in a control that lets you select which devices you can opt to be
 able
to adjust. They'll be like sw synth checked, pc beep checked, midi
 checked,
cd player checked, phone checked, etc, and one of these is microphone or
microphone/line in, make sure the one for microphone is checked. Press
enter. Shift+tab till you hear microphone volume up down slider. Adjust
 it
till you think it's right. Tab to the mute checkbox and hit space to
 uncheck
that, unmuting the microphone, enabling it to work like monitor mode
 over
the sound card. Warning! Put headphones on or turn your speakers wa
 down
when you do this. If you tap on your our microphone you'll hear it
 coming
back simultaneously through the speakers. Now when you record it should
 work
fine. To adjust how loud the recording through the microphone is when
 you
 do
what you hear, adjust the volume of the microphone from the playback
 volume
page that I just described how to get to. After you've checked to show
microphone there, you've only got to run sndvol32 and press shift+tab a
 bit
to get to microphone, those either steppes are a one time thing.

 Hi everyone!
A long time ago, I had this program which basically allowed me to press
letters on my computer keyboard and hear piano notes. You could change
instruments and even play sound effects. The problem is that I have
absolutely no idea what this program was called. I just remember that it
 was
extremely accessible, and extremely handy when I needed to give myself a
starting note for a song. If anyone has any idea of what I'm talking about
and knows what this program is called and where I might be able to find
 it,
please let me know. Thanks so much.

 Gary

Let me attempt to explain why your attempt to play wzzr in WMP had to
 fail.
WZZR (and many other Clear Channel family stations) use what is known as
 the CC Tuner.
The CC tuner is what is known as an embedded player meaning it is a small
plugin that seamlessly works with another player, in this case, Windows
 Media Player.
While it may not be readily apparent, this set up potentially has benefits
for both sides of the equation including being able to deliver to you talk
show names and guests, song titles, news headlines, whatever.
However, for the stream to work, the path must go through that tuner
plugin which, by attempting to load the stream url into WMP, apparently
 bypasses.
On the other hand, launching the stream from the run dialog or your IE
Favorites, apparently, in the CC Tuner case, works fine.

What I would urge anyone who encounters one of these broken links to do is
use the databases' feedback mechanism to report the error.
I've, as an example, reported a bunch of these over the last week to the
 support crew at
radiotime.com, and they're repairing them quickly as folks point these out
 to them.
On the Streamingradioguide.com listings, you will see the most recent date
on which the stream was validated.
Streamingradioguide.com appears to have a program in place which checks
streams to see if they're still operative.
MikesRadioWorld also seems to be on top of the situation.
That's why, at the moment, these are my 3 top choices for streams.

And as has been said before, anyone who attempts to maintain links for
their own use well knows, links do often change and uncovering broken
links is part of the expectation.
One bit of irony in this, I began working with streaming radio in 2000 or
 so.  The first link was Wgn Chicago which still works;
the 2nd one was WMBI-FM Chicago which worked until early this year when
the Moody owned stations switched to BarnabasRoad.com for their audio
 feeds.

 Gary

I entered the link at the run dialogue.

This isn't a WMP link; hence, that's why wmp balked for you. And it
balked for me when I now tried it.
So, run it from the dialogue, from within your web browser, or enter it as
 a favorite in your bookmarks.
That way, it will launch and play.
CC doesn't use a pure wmp player; they have some sort of hybrid (no idea
what) and it truly doesn't matter.

Without your telling us what station you are talking about, attempting to
 answer your question isn't possible.
Not all Clear Channel stations stream; nor have all stations switched.
So, tell us which station you are having problems with; and we can attempt
 to solve this for you.

Subject: [Blind Audio] Mozekty: The Talking Internet Radio Database

I have lots of friends who ask me for accessible websites to find good
links to internet radio stations. I usually send them to
 http://www.billsparks.org
because Bill is visually impaired and understands how to create an
online database of station listings that is screen reader friendly. Bill
 does a great
job at keeping his website updated, but there's only so much one guy
 can do.

Sometimes, you just want to try something new. Why can't there be a
database of stations that is being checked by a handfull of people to
 insure that they
are online and why can't that database be screen reader friendly? I was
asking myself this question one day and did a Google search for internet
 radio
database. The results weren't good. What I found were programs that
were not accessible and tons of online resources that hadn't been
 updated in years.

Well, I kept searching and eventually came to the
 InfraDrive Mozekty page at http://www.infradrive.com/mozekty.php
. The description of the program said that Mozekty is a free fast tool
to play your audio streams and radio stations, you can also get a list
 of the latest
radio stations on the internet and save your favourite stations.
 Features include:

Listen to hundreds of internet radio stations from around the world
 with this full-featured player.
Add, edit or delete stations from your stations database.
Check for latest stations found on the internet by connecting to
 Bitsnips.com.
Get full info and statistics about the current playing stream.
Full control from Mozekty system tray icon when the application is
 minimized.
 Friendly user interface.
Great tool with a small size.

I knew this was the program I was looking for. I went to the
 InfraDrive Download Page at http://www.infradrive.com/downloads.php
and got a copy of Mozekty.

The program worked great but had one problem with JAWS. As I tabbed
through the various options, I noticed that JAWS wouldn't read the
 actual list of stations.
This was an obvious problem. How was I going to know what station I had
 selected?

 I sent an email to
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and got an immediate email and Skype call from Ehab El-agizy. As we
chatted, I discovered that this guy was really interested in my issue.
 He wanted to
make this program accessible for blind and visually impaired users and
to continue to offer it for free. We talked about JAWS and Window Eyes
 and how they
read the screen to people who are blind or visually impaired. He
downloaded a demo of each program and decided that the best way to bring
 accessibility
to this program was to write his own Text to Speech interface.

As you can imagine, I was floored. How many people do you know would
take this kind of interest in making a program accessible? Well, a few
 days later,
he was sending me the first beta. It worked well and I could use my
default SAPI voice to access most of the program's menus and combo
 boxes.

This was outstanding. A few days later the second beta arived. Now the
entire program spoke and additional speech support was added. Now, I
 could choose
any SAPI 4 or SAPI 5 voice and make it the default voice for the
program. I could now access the program just as easily as any person
 with vision. I was
so impressed by the work done that I promised to spread the word to as
many blind and visually impaired people as possible. You are reading the
 result
 of that promise.

If you are interested in internet radio, I'd like for you to give this
program a download. If you know of good internet radio stations, please
 submit them
so we can add them to the database for all to enjoy. The current
version does not support streams by RealMedia because of their
 perprietary nature. This
may be fixed in future releases. Ehab wants our feedback and has a
forum for us to post suggestions and new internet radio listings.
You can also send new listings to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
. He did the programming and I did the testing. We made a great team

Hi Jim,

thanks for that information. Is the volume in screamer radio independent of
the windows volume control? thanks again.

i Gary

You can adjust the volume when playing a station stream in screamer radio
with the left and right arrows.

Only thing to note is that they work in the opposite way that you might
 expect.
That is right arrow is vol down and left arrow is vol up.
