Hi all,
I was wondering I use playlist studio to broadcast. What I haven't found yet
is how to control jaws independent of the music, is there a way on this
application to do this? If not then those of you that use playlist studio,
how do you control jaws independently of your music?
Thanks,
Troy

Re: Determining Sound Blaster Card

2009-04-29 Thread Jeff Bishop
It just shows up as a x-FI card in device manager. You can go to the
Creative support site and have it detect your card. It will then tell you
what model it is.

Hello,

Does anyone know how to determine the version of a Sound Blaster X-FI card
that is installed on a machine? When I look in Device Manager, what shows
up is just X-FI. I'm trying to determine if the card is just an X-FI card
or an X-FI Titanium. If anyone has the X-FI Titanium can you tell me what
it shows up as in Device Manager?

Subject: RE: using Total Recorder 7 with software speech

Mike has provided an excellent framework for a comparison between Total
Recorder and Replay A/V. I'll intersperse comments after his features,
which are unquestioned plusses for Replay A/v.
 (1) ability to record a stream prior to its reaching the sound card.
This is the biggie; Total Recorder doesn't do it, and it is this that
 allows
Replay A/V to work in Vista as well as it works in xp, whereas Total
Recorder worksin Vista, but even with Window-Eyes and its ability to
 select
sound cards, not as well as it did in xp.

 (2) ability to record multiple streams simultaneiously and on a recurring
 schedule.
 Both products will do this.

 (3) A feature allowing one to use RAV both as a recorder and a radio
 tuner independently and simultaneously.
I don't think TR can do this.

 (4) An url finder feature allowing one to uncover stream urls that are
often embedded in complex urls. To me, this would be well worth the $50
or so price tag for the product.

Another plus for Replay; Total Recorder has such a reature but I haven't
found it to be very accessible.

 (5) A built-in file converter which can be set to automatically convert
recorded streams into the desired media format.
 Both programs can do this.

 (6) An easy to use interface which follows conventional Windows menu
 structure.
 Both are strong here.

 (7) Each scheduled entry can be individually managed for file conversion,
how long recordings are maintained, and with the ability to edit tags.
 Again, both are good.

 (8) A wide variety of general program settings including the
customization of names of created files. These general settings include
the ability to determine how the program will handle stream interruptions
and how many times to attempt reconnects.
 Again, both are good
Additional thoughts: I just prefer Total Recorder, if it would work, but
 it
won't with Vista. I find, on an xp system, I have fewer problems with
 Replay A/V recordings.

Mike says he uses another program sometimes because Replay can't bring the
computer out of hibernation. I regularly have Replay A/V bring the
 computer
out of hibernation to make a recording.

Total Recorder has some other recording features and some avail add-ons,
 but
at this point, I would not buy it unless you know you'll never migrate to
Vista. Replay A/V solves one of Vista's biggest disadvantages, that being
 its crippled recording features.

 Another response from Applian.

Yes, RC 3.0 Beta can be used with a full copy of Replay A/V.

 Petro replies:
Just remember it is a beta and I help them tweak and make the
products accessible. Also there could be bugs in RC 3.0 beta so
 you'd know ahead of time.

And if you don't like RC 3.0 you uninstall just RC 3.0 beta and

Previous to the last Winamp update, Winamp bookmarks were stored in the

 Hi

Thanks to Keith for responding to the sound taxi query I had. For a
 reason
I cannot understand the third time I tried creating the file it converted
OK, after which I was able to make a daisy book out of it which I am very
pleased about as my daisy player will be the best vehicle for navigating
 it
if I want it as well as bookmarking. There is not as far as I know an
Audible player which lets you navigate by phrase, by small or large time
increments and allows you to set multiple bookmarks etc like a daisy
 player
can as well as giving you variable speed. So this will be good.

 Thanks again.

Microsoft Outlook, that is the Outlook that comes with Microsoft office, not
Outlook Express, then I'd highly recommend Skylook from

Outlook and Skype at a number of levels, and one of the features is the
ability to record Skype calls. it records directly from the Skype stream, so
it doesn't require any additional sound drivers that might mess with your
sound card, and it's the most accessible, reliable solution in software I've
seen.

If you are not planning on running Microsoft Outlook, then they also
offer another plugin called CallBurner. I have yet to play with this
plugin but it is also available at the same site.

Hi Roger, there are a few solutions available. If you have access to
Microsoft Outlook, that is the Outlook that comes with Microsoft
office, not Outlook Express, then I'd highly recommend Skylook from
http://www.skylook.biz. This offers some brilliant integration between
Outlook and Skype at a number of levels, and one of the features is
the ability to record Skype calls. it records directly from the Skype
stream, so it doesn't require any additional sound drivers that might
mess with your sound card, and it's the most accessible, reliable
 solution in software I've seen.

I've never been clear: is the sF Noise Reduction plug-in which used to be
available separately the same as SF Noise Reduction 2.0 which now seems to
be a part of the Sound Forge package?

RE: sf noise reduction

2007-04-10 Thread Jeff Bishop
They have. When you install SF9 it is installed after the main Sound Forge
components. You actually see the installer come up for Noise Reduction 2.0.
It is version 2.0E. It is invoked from the Tools menu of SF9.

Yes, Dean. They're one and the same. But, it is not a part of Sound
Forge unless version 9.0 has incorporated it. The Noise Reduction that's
built into Sound Forge is different and much more limited than Noise
Reduction 2.0.

RE: Sound Forge and Noise Reduction

2007-04-10 Thread Jeff Bishop
Yes. I completely removed Sound Forge 7 and all associated items (CD Arch,
preset manager, and Noise Reduction 2.0D) before installing 9.0A. It did
install it and the options are the same as though in the 2.0D version but
they are invoked under the Tools menu as well as the DX Favorites menu (like
you used to have to do).

You don't have to do this, but I didn't want mmultiple versions on my
system.

I have them and will be testing them soon with Version 9. I had a heck of a

There are numerous ways to control volume even if you cannot get at the
volume controls within the gameday player.

(1) Get a keyboard that includes extra keys for raising and lowering volume
as well as muting.

(2) Autohotkey from autohotkey.com
has among numerous scripts available a volume control one where you can
define keys to do this.

On the programs page of JFWlite

www.jfwlite.com

you will find a link to a program called Volume Tray.
This too gives you control over your volume.

Another handy utility called

Wizmo

available from

www.grc.com/wizmo/wizmo.htm

allows you to do all sorts of neat tricks. I have set up hotkeys to set 5
different volume levels and another that makes certain that the soundcard is
active.
A couple other neat functions of Wizmo is that it can force shutdowns and
reboots of your pc in those times when all else fails and normal
shutdowns/reboots just hang.

With all of the above, why worry if you can happen to locate a particular
player's volume controls.

 Hi,

Has anyone gotten Game Day Audio to work inside of Windows Media Player?
 If
so, how did you do it? I sure wish Replay AV would work with MLB.

I've been able to control the audio just fine using the standard WMP

volume with keys like F8 and F9. I have WMP11.

Try tabbing with the JAWS virtual PC or Window-Eyes browse mode off until
you hear unmamed view. This will ensure focus is in the WMP control on the

RE: Hats Off to Apple

The proof is in the pudding. Apple still hasn't gotten Windows Vista
support done let alone accessibility, so I am sure it is merely a priority
for the Mac platform more then it is for the Windows platform.

Better accessability for Itunes is being worked on. I'm not making excuses
for Apple but everything takes time and I'm sure that Windows users will end
up with a totally accessible version of Itunes before too long, just be
patient, can't say too much right now.
Why do Apple users make a thing about how accessible Itunes is?
Because quite simply its worth making a thing about, its taken a while but
Itunes has turned overnight from something which wasn't all that accessible
at all (more near to totally inaccessible) to something which is getting to
the point of being near totally accessible so that in itself is worth making
a thing about plus the fact that all the hard work and all the
correspondence between Apple and Voiceover users finally paid off, we now
have a commitment on behalf of Apple that further development will continue
etc.

Hi Chris, thanks for your attempt to help. I've now narrowed down the
problem. You can in fact use the control+T Tune option for Sirius stations,
however, at least on the two systems I've tried it on, you can't have JAWS
running with its default behaviour when you do this. I suspect what's
happening is that there is some kind of macro/script within Replay A/V that
logs a user on. With JAWS running, obviously you need to turn on forms mode
to enter data, and this seems to break the log-on process. If I take JAWS
out of the mix, it works flawlessly. So I suspect all I need to do now is to
set the configuration manager in JAWS so that the virtual cursor isn't used
in the Replay Tuner app. No big deal. So it's great, I'm going to set up all
my Sirius favourites within Replay A/V, which I've been using as my Internet
radio tuner as well as recorder for a long time now. And I get to record all
my favourite CNN programmes.

Hi Jonathan. Aparently, something happens behind the scenes so that Replay
A/V can record your stream. Here's what I would try.
You know how CNN does a newscast at the top of every hour and it lasts 2 or
3 minutes? Well, what I would do is schedule a recording on the Sirius CNN
channel at the top of the next hour coming up and watch replay and see what
it does. I know some folks who have successfully recorded Sirius streams,
and Bill Dettering, the CEO of Applian was on Main Menu a couple weeks ago
and confirmed that the replay A/V software has a way to get past the captcha
that is presented when you log in.
So you may not actually be able to tune to the station using the method you
describe, but I'm guessing that it has some kind of mechanism for logging in
and getting past the captcha.

I don't know how it does it, but it should work fine. Give it a try and
tell us all how you get on. I'd be curious to know myself actually. I use
ReplayA/V every single day and I can't imagine not using it now.
Hope that helps.

When I enter the info correctly, including the channel number and my
Sirius username and password, if I select the option to tune to the
station, the Replay Tuner pops up with the Sirius Online log-in page.
Based on the clicks I hear from IE, it sounds like Replay A/V is trying
to log me in, however, on this page it is also showing the visual
capture box, so I don't quite see how Replay A/V can get past this
screen. I am simply returned to the log-in page, which the Tuner never
gets past. For me then, this feature seems broken. Has anyone got this
to
work?

The Sirius site itself is very easy to use, but it would be handy to be
able to record sometimes.

Jonathan

Hi Jeff, I think it's around 12.95 a month. Besides music, there's Howard
Stern, Martha Stuart, a bunch of talk channels including Sirius Left, the
Patriot Channel etc. There are some comedy channels and a kids channel. This
is all going from memory. Most of the content they get from other sources is
not online. The exception to this is the CNN domestic feed, which is the
only reason I have it.

David thanks for your lovely overview of the MileStone311, but remember,
the Olympus are not yet being distributed commercially, so though being
sold on Amazon, I am sure they will not be delivered before Feb. 1, and
who knows, maybe if you are lucky to travel to Csun this year, you might
be impressed with announcements regarding the MieStone311 or you will
just have to wait for the email

You'll be impressed, and Milestone certainly isn't worth another $150
more than these new recorders. They are already for sale several places
on the internet, including Amazon. Amazon also has a fuller spec sheet
on the DS-50 than the Olympus announcement.

dough bucks, and get the same features, or close to, or even better,
then I'm def interested. Getting tired of being only able to work half
of a machine that I bought. Thinking maybe I should be charged half
price for my mp3 player, since it takes sight to get to record and other
stuff. But, more and more mp3 player/recorders are like that now,
although, some can be better accessed than others.

I was wondering the same thing. I subscribe to the company's RSS feed on
product updates and there hasn't been a new post for about a week. It is a
little frustrating waiting for the bug fix because every time I start the
program, I get a nag notice to upgrade my version, even though I have
selected no on numerous times. then when my stream recording is finished, I
get another nag notice to upgrade to the latest version. No conversion
happens until this question is answered so my work is interrupted to answer
these same questions day after day.

Other programs can take no for an answer. Why can't this one?

I beta tested a few minutes ago Replay AV 8.03 and all the minor
accessibility issues have been fixed. The Spacebar works on the
User Interface: Minimize, Hide, Record, Exit - using the
spacebar works now. The menu bar: File, Shows, Record and the
others work as usual. Press Alt by itself or do Alt+F for file
menu and so on. Alt+s for shows menu. The UI List box works as
before. Use the applications key when you have selected an item
in the List box and then choose the option you want in the
context menu with either the enter key or shortcut letter. As
for bugs in the software or functionality I have not encountered
any errors yet. Post to this list if you see any issues and I
will forward them to Applian Tech. Petro

However, when I opened my recordings folder and looked under Dr. Laura, I
found a .asf file. Why did this happen? Secondly, Dr. Laura never came on.

I got the 12 O'clock news instead. This was recording out of Los Angelis.
I suppose they changed the time for the show and never updated the guide.
I'm more concerned at present with the lack of an mp3 file. Thanks!

What version of Winamp are you using? The only thing I have found is that
moving through a asf file in winamp is very sluggish at best, especially
 when jumping by time.

 Hi all!
So, I scheduled the program to record Dr. Laura from 3 to 6 P.M. local
time yesterday. I also set it to convert the stream to an mp3 file.
However, when I opened my recordings folder and looked under Dr. Laura,
 I
found a .asf file. Why did this happen? Secondly, Dr. Laura never came
 on.

I got the 12 O'clock news instead. This was recording out of Los
 Angelis.
I suppose they changed the time for the show and never updated the
 guide.
I'm more concerned at present with the lack of an mp3 file. Thanks!

Hi Allison, just arrow to the show you want to modify in the list of shows,
and press enter. You can very easily change the encoding to MP3 there on the
first tab.
Dr. Laura's time is correct in the guide. I know this because I recorded it
today from KFI. You can just skip past the news.

The mp3 recording settings are global, so no.

The answer to your second question is yes.

Subject: [bct] reply AV questions

Hi all!
I just finished listening to Jonathan's fabulous demonstration of the Replay
AV software, and I am eager to purchase it. However, I have a few basic
questions. Firstly, am I correct in assuming that one can set different
shows to record at different bitrates? For example, would it be possible for
me to record a music show at 128 KBPS and a talk show at 64? Secondly, if I
wanted to record two different programs on one of the BBC channels, would I
be able to schedule that particular stream to begin recording at two
different times? Thank you in advance for any and all assistance!

RE: replay 7AV problems

Remember, they capture the wma or real audio stream by downloading the
content. They would have to convert it to wav and frankly you would
probably lose more doing that.

They should have wav as an option as well for those people that want it. I
use the goldwave demo to do this, I don't like it as an editor much but the
batch converting is OK considering that can be done free. You would lose a
lot of quality converting win media to mp3 at the same bitrate that the
stream was. I couldn't imagine what taking a 32kbps wma stream and making it

into a 32kbps mp3 file. would do to the quality.

Kurt, when you schedule a show, simply set it to capture as an mp3
 instead of raw windows media/real.

The review will explain how to do this.

I don't want anything else but MP3. I bought this on Jonathan Mosen's

Hi Scott,

It looks as though your history database has gotten corrupted somehow.
The most straightforward fix is to back up your history, start fresh
and rebuild your history manually.

To do this use the following procedure:

1. Quit Juice

2. Locate your Juice application data directory. Usually this is

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Windows Username\Application Data\iPodder

Note that the Application Data folder may be a hidden folder, so just
paste this path into an explorer window if you have any trouble
finding it.

3. In this folder will be a sub-folder called history. Rename it to
history backup or something convenient.

4. Start Juice.

5. Rebuild your history manually by visiting each subscription and
marking episodes for download as appropriate.

Hope this helps,
Andrew

Scott,

Have you tried marking the episodes by pressing the spacebar until you got
to to download as its status and then told Juice to check now by right
clicking on the episode and selecting that option?

 Hi Dana, John ,Sin
Thanks for your responses, found out my problem is more involved. the
reason I can't see the skip shows is because two of my feeds had 50
files in their folder and Juice stop downloading at this point.I
have plenty of room on my hard drive so this space should not have been a
issue.
according to the log.I am guessing that juice thinks these shows
were downloaded already and that why they are not listed.Any ideas?
Think I have to do something with log to correct this problem. Does
anyone have a email address to send Juice a email. Went to support
and it was not user friendly.

On the subscription page, cursor to the subscription you're
interested in, press tab, and you'll see a list of available
 episode for that
 subscription.
How to download a specific older episode, and/or how to reset the
download status of a particular episode, I have never figured out.
So, someone else will have to give you those details. But, this is
where you do it, I believe.

 Hi Steve,

Well at least on this end, there's no joy in Mudville. I downloaded and
installed the latest version, and using both JFW 4.51.131, and the demo of
JFW7 (still waiting on my upgrade to get here), JFW just says menu bar,
and won't speak anything when trying to up or down arrow through the
menus.
Are there any settings in Nero that need to be configured? Using the JAWS
cursor, I can see that the menu is down, but normal navigation isn't
working. Well I guess it's back to V6.

 Blessings,

 Brian

Ear buds - anyone got suggestions?

2005-12-17 Thread Jeff Bishop
Hello,

My ear buds I bought from Radio Shack died and they don't sell the model

headphones that weren't radio shack brand. Ohhh well, so much for buying a
warranty.

So, anyone got any suggestions on a good sounding pair of ear buds? I want
to stick with ear buds so that I can hear when walking with my guide dog so
I can continue to listen to podcasts.

I got the TMP-636S. This one has bidirectional capabilities so that you
can play output from your sound card into the phone line as well. I
would not use that feature for Internet Radio but can use it if I want
to show someone a song or an audio file off my computer. No more
turning up the volume on the speakers to allow them to hear it clearly.

Dear Steve,
Thanks for the heads up! I just read over the info you sent out, plus I
went to the High Criteria website (to see if there was any more info, ha!
ha!) and ended up sending their sales team a post, because it is unclear
as to whether or not 5.o can be installed, over 4.5, without getting a new
registration key. Do you know what is up with that? I have 4.5
Professional, am a newbie, so I had a little trouble with installing that
reg. key, in the first place!

All I can do is hope it doesn't have to happen again! What do you think,
from reading the spiel?

Thanks,

today announced
the immediate availability of new versions of its flagship product,
Total Recorder.

. The first two add-ons are being made available at the same time as
the V5.0 release.
A Spectrum Analyzer and Graphic Equalizer is provided as one add-on and
an Audio
Restoration facility is provided as a second add-on. The Spectrum
Analyzer and Graphic
