There's certainly some wisdom in the philosophy of upgrading only when you
have to but I must admit, after buying a new PC recently, I've upgraded
winamp, nero, notmad explorer, real player and windows media player and am
wishing I'd done so ages back.

With regards to nero though, I think Richard's spot on; if you don't need
any additional functionality and your burning CD's with no problem, I'd
stick with what you've got. I would also say though that in nero's case,
the interface has not changed between 5.5 and version 6.

  Hi Jim,
The answer to that one is NO!
Unless the latest version has more features that you really need
I wouldn't upgrade, because you can always be faced with accessibility
  problems.
Just my opinion, I never upgrade, unless I'm forced into it for some
 reason.

Hi guys,
I have a program called Win-lame that encodes mp3s and ogg vorbis. The
problem is that I don't care for the interface, because you have to set the
settings each time rather then having presets. I'm used to Razorlame as my
mp3 encoder. Is there a good free ogg vorbis to wave converter out there

Hi.
If you have uninstalled Real Alternative, and don't have Real

Alternative and the Tara plug-in, or to install Real Player.
If you install Real Alternative/Tara, I'd suggest getting a program
like Quickmix

and seeing why your volume is being reduced or muted, and which
program is reducing or muting it.

 Hi,
Do you have CD Creator on your new computer?
I am assuming that CD Creator is the same as Easy CD Creator. Did you use
Direct CD to save these MP3 files to CD?
I could be wrong, but I believe, if you did, you will need direct CD on
your new computer in order to access these files.
That is the only reason I could think of why you could not access these
 files.
 Hope this helps,

I copied these files to a computer from disk using MP3 format. Then I
created disks. I bought a new computer and cannot play the cads. I
used
cod creator to copy the files to disk. The problem I am having is that
I
can't play these disks on my new computer. I have considerable time in

Yes, MP3DirectCut is fantastically fast, much faster than SoundForge or
 GoldWave.
I use it for recording drama from BBC Radio 4 for editing out unwanted
 portions of audio.
It works quite well with Jaws 4.51, Jaws 5.0 Jaws 5.10.
There are also scripts available if you need them, but not essential.
It can tell immediately the playing time of a large audio file, say 85
megs,
you can go instantly to any spot withing that same file.
Also, you can press the right or left arrow key while the audio is
playing,
hear just as with an audio cd.
 It's terrific!

I just discovered that Mp3DirectCut can record direct to mp3 with the
Lame
mp3 encoder. The program has a command line option to start recording
immediately so one can setup a shortcut with a hotkey to start recording
from anywhere within Windows. You could also use your favorite
scheduling
program to record radio shows. This program is free. I haven't had any
trouble with spyware from Mp3DirectCut. Check it out at:
  http://www.mpesch3.de/

It works well with WindowEyes. There are lots of direct access keys.
The
record meters are in text form.

A few things take a bit of getting used to. Fore example: If you want
to
place a marker during playback. You press b for set begin then n for
set
end then c for cut while the file is paused. If the begin and end marks
 are
in the same place, they are treated is a mark instead of cutting the
  selected area.

I wish other audio editors were as easy to use. I'm just about to try
the
latest version which has a few new features.

   Hello to all,
Ok, I'm curious what does OEM stand for?
Sense I don't have Nearo burning rom on my cd, then how can I go about
getting it? You have to purchase it right?
By the way, the first few times I looked at the cd, I had just let it
 start
   up.
But then I looked at it using windows explorer.
Someone had asked me about this earlier, so I wanted to let them know.
Thanks again for any help you can give me with this.

Hi, can you record telephone interviews with total recorder? If so, how do
you tell the program to find the modem, or what am I looking for in the
menu. I downloaded a program called cal-corder and I am not sure yet if
this will work for me, but having total recorder and the registered version,
I thought if I can do the interviews with that then,. Please advise.

Subject: Securing Music Editing Devices At Low Cost

Hello List!

I hope this is not off-topic, but here it is.

I would like to know if there is a place or way a person can obtain good
editing software (such as Soundforge and Cakewalk, etc.) at reasonable
prices, ones containing real Program Keys and documentation. Even old
copies of the program (discontinued software stores). These programs are
too expensive for my wallet at this time, but I need their functionality. I
get emails daily about cheap software, but who knows if these are legitimate
or not. I do a lot of music and audio editing and need help in this area.

Thanks again for your help and again I apologize if I have gone off-topic in
this email.

 Hi Susan,

I don't know if they still have them but RNIB used to sell a lead that
enables you to do what you want, using a standard pair of stereo
headphones.
It comprises a 3.5 mm socket with two leads coming out of it and 3.5 mm
plugs on the end of each of them. If RNIB no longer sell them, I'm sure
you
could get one made up for you locally.

 Good luck.

 Robert.

 Subject: split headphones

  Hi everyone,
This question came up on another list and has sparked my interest
because
  I
will soon be in a similar situation.

The list is for blind transcriptionists. The person asking wanted to
know
whether there are split headsets that would allow her to hear dictation
played through her soundcard in one ear and software speech in the
other,
with separate volume controls for each as would be allowed with an
  external
synthesizer. Assuming that such headphones exist and could be easily
configured to whatever PC setup, they might theoretically provide an
alternative to a hardware synthesizer. Someone directed her to
Plintronic
headphones that will supposedly do this, but I don't exactly see how it
is
possible. I mean, maybe I'm stupid, but on my system with a
Soundblaster
Live card and dual speakers I don't think thechannels are split
according
  to
speaker, so how could this be accomplished via a headset without either
separate speakers or another soundcard, or am I missing something? In
  fact,
most of the time I'm not even sure that both speakers are working, or at
least not to capacity, so is this really doable? For myself, I also
have
  a
four-channel stereo mixer which my techie son helped me to set up so
that
  I
can easily control my PC volume along with an external transcriber or
hardware synthe and hear them through one pair of headphones, but this
  kind
of sounds like the opposite process, if that makes sense. This is
  probably
audio 101 for most of you but I really would like to understand what is
possible. Please feel free to write me on or off list if you could
either
point me to specific headphones for this and/or suggest how this is to
be
  done. Many thanks.

  Susan

Hello. We've tried to download Paul Harvey clips for listening to later.
When we go back to it later to listen it is a different show. For example,
if we did last Monday's clip and played it tomorrow or tuesday it would be
 tomorrow's show.
How can we download them and keep them in the hard drive?

Playback-radio version 5.21 is now available from www.playback-radio.com

A 7-day 60 minutes a day demo is available as well as the latest version.
Latest
version is free for persons with registered versions later than mid April
I believe.
New users should be advised that most buttons require the use of the space
bar rather
 than the enter key.
