right click on the file and select Open With
choose the program you want to play the file
look for a check box which says always Use This Program and make sure it

 Hi,
I just tried to record it using the method through the sound card. Replay
AV told me it could not detect sound and tried to re-tune ever minute or
 so.
However there was sound coming through winamp of the station which of
 course
stopped every minute or so wehn it re-tuned.

When I first got Replay AV it would not tune at all to Radio Caroline, at
least now I get the sound.

The Abacast stream that the station uses is an excellent quality. I wish
 others would use.

 HI,

It looks to me like you are trying to record a proprietary stream. I
 don't
this Replay AV can record that stream.

I followed the link to Mac Users, and there are two other stream
 available.
Look for a description for If you prefer not to use the embedded

There you will find links to a Windows stream ending in .asx and a Real
 Audio link ending in .ram.

 Hope this works for you,

Another thought, To record the sound card, make sure you have a What U
Hear option selected as your audio recording method. And remember to
convert it to an MP3.

Re: Can this file be saved?

2006-07-31 Thread Robin G. Plitt
Try to save it as WAV and put it onto an audio CD. Then play that CD in a
standalone player.

That will tell you whether you have decent sound.

BTW, the Higher the bit-rate of your original recording, the better the
sound. Most commercial CDs are recorded at 44,000.

It might be something as simple as your Winamp settings, but you won't know
until you test.

Good luck,
Robin

Subject: Can this file be saved?

Hi, all. I've been working on this project for my dad's 80th birthday
 using
Soundforge 6.0, Jaws and Windows XP. I was using files from various
 sources
in the project, which is why I guess Soundforge decided to sample it at
22000 mhz (sorry if that's not quite right, but it's close enough.) It
sounds great when I play it back in Soundforge, lousy and fuzzy when I
 hear
it on winamp. Is there anything I can do to make this sound decent? I
originally wanted to send it via yousendit.com as an MP3 file, but that
didn't seem to work out, so I guess I'll save it as a wave file and just
send it on an audio CD. In any case, right now it sounds lousy and I just
don't know enough to know what to do from here. Any help? As always,
thanks in advance. You guys rock!

When you use the play application you have it read the gracenote db
 then
 you
can save it in the the player ini file then you go in to cdex and it
 will
read from that same file it is under the db menu.

WellWinamp, so anything I might say would be a guess.

I'll leave the next step to the rest of the list. I could only guess that
winamp is playing the file at too high a volume, if it is distorted. If it
just sounds compressed, the MP3 bit rate might be too low in WInamp. I
don't know how to check or change these things.

Hi, Robin and List. Well, I was able to burn the Wav file fine, and it
sounds fine on a stand-alone CD player. Thanks for the idea; I got that
idea, too, as I was eating my lunch! But I'd love to send it as an mp3
 file
if possible. Any cluse as to why this wav file turns into a really lousy
mp3 file? my 44,000 sample rate in wav goes to 22.000 in mp3. Weird. If
it's a winamp thing, could someone walk me through what maybe to do? I
 have
virutally no knowledge about settings in winamp! Lol.

Try to save it as WAV and put it onto an audio CD. Then play that CD in
 a
 standalone player.

That will tell you whether you have decent sound.

BTW, the Higher the bit-rate of your original recording, the better the
sound. Most commercial CDs are recorded at 44,000.

It might be something as simple as your Winamp settings, but you won't
 know
 until you test.

 Good luck,

In any case, right now it sounds lousy and I
 just
don't know enough to know what to do from here. Any help? As always,
thanks in advance. You guys rock!

locating streams

2006-06-28 Thread Robin G. Plitt
Hello all,

I have been using Replay AV for a couple of weeks now and am extremely
satisfied with it.

I am having one problem however. While listenning to streamed audio through
Windows Media Player. I am unable to capture the stream automatically within
Replay AV. Ibelieve the stream is coming through a flash version of the WM
player.

I have tried to directly record off the sound card, but my laptop won't find
the audio even though I hear it.

Does anyone know if there is a way I can manually locate the stream and
input it into Replay AV?

BTW, the primary source for my problems is MLB.COM. I dohave the
subscription, but can't seem to get recordings from live or archived games.

THanks in advance,
Robin

 hi all,
I'm in a rural area. We haven't got satelite yet, we're still receiving
 UHF
or whatever type of signals the old analog tv is. I've got a question.
 We've
got the main antenna box downstairs. We've got a cable running up to my
room, where it's plugged into my fairly new VCR DVD combo. It's using the
old cables, the ones you find in stereos for the FM antenna, can't
 remember
the name, not RCA though. From there, that same type of connection leads
 up
to my tv where the video and sound are played. I've got a question. My tv
doesn't have a headphone plug anywhere, and i want to run voyager through
 my
stereo. Is there a way to do this? the vcr has a couple of jacks set in
 the
front and a group of three three and two RCA jacks vertically on the
 back.
Do I have to wait till I get satelite and patch the RCA cables to my
 stereo,
or is there some way or feature i should look for to put tv through my
stereo instead of my crappy tv.

you will hear the output of whatever sound source you select within your
recording device. Each software is a little differant, but basically that is
the case.

If you are tring to use two differant sound cards to avoid feedback, because
you are recording through a mic, that won't work. (i mention this because I
don't know why you'd need two differant sound cards). If you want to hear
the output of a project recorded through a mic, use headphones instead of
speakers for monitoring.l

THis is the 4-th question in 1 month i ask which i hope will be answererd.
Maybe my questions are to complex or maybe im not getting through.
But instead of picking on folks i ask another one.
Lets say i have set goldwave or whatever soundrecording software to record
from one sound card and have another soundcard as a playback sound device.
Is it then possible to hear through the playback device what you are
 recording from the recording device?
 A kind of monitor option.

that this specific player acts as a removable disk in windows. I don't get

removable disk. I tried using the add hardware wizard but that didn't help
iether. I saw 2 gb vibe, in the list of hardware, but I just can't

a few days ago. I'm using windows xp and JFW 7.0. My USB ports are all
fine, since I tested them with my epson printer and kanin scanner. Before
I finish, I might as well add that when booting up windows, if the player

this happened from the beginning and that's not a problem. Also, I've
tried multiple ports with no success.

 Hopefully somebody can help me.

If you do both these things and it still doesn't work, you might try to
uninstall and reinstall the drivers. I would be skeptical of the last option
though, because XP uses pretty standard USB drivers. It has happened to me

I think the cable would be the most likely problem. If you don't have a
spare USB Cable, try using the same cable with a different device.

SUDIO RECORDER FOR PC

2006-04-30 Thread Robin G. Plitt
HI,

Earlier on this list, there ws a discussion of programs which you could use
to record programs off the internet.

One of the programs mentioned offered a timer feature. I can't recall which
one. I just found a post for Replay AV, which has this feature,.

What I am looking for is a free version of such a program. I thought one was
mentioned, but can't find the message that described it.

Replay AV seems to offer a free trial, but it limits the time you are able
to record to 15 minutes. Everything I want to record is at least an hour
long.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Robin

Line In, which I can't find a physical jack for yet, mic and CD audio.

Previously, I have used Audacity to record internet streams, but it doesn't
work with this laptop

Thanks for any help.

 Hello Chris,

On Sunday, April 23, 2006, 12:29:27 AM, you bellowed the following:
i learned that some streams *must* be recorded using your sound card.
 I didn't think so but it's true.

For this, I tend to use Virtual audio Cable.
Yesterday, I had to record four hours from a stream which used one of
 those imbedded
players. What I did to get around this was to open up sound forge, set
it to the input on one of the virtual audio cables, set my default sound
card to the virtual cable's output, load the stream, then change the
default playback device back to my onboard sound card. This was done with
 a laptop
 and it worked great.
It's far easier to rip streams on shoutcast servers, or even Windows
Media streams where you can actually find the source address.
