Is the XStream Platinum HD Box Accessible?
Hello, Is anyone out there familiar with this XStream Platinum HD media streaming Box which allows you to watch movies, TV and listen to all sorts of worldwide music streams using your Internet connection? It uses Android as it's OS, but don't know if it allows you to install the Google TalkBack app for accessibility? Does anyone know?
How to Upscale OTR Files to Stereo?
Hello, I've been noticing on a certain OTR station (20thCenturyOTR) that a lot of the OTR shows they play seem to be in a stereo format. Mainly the detective shows (Johnny Dollar, NightBeat, etc.) They really sound damn good. No pops, clicks or anything. It's like the shows were recorded in the late 20th century, not the mid-early years. Does anyone know how they accomplished this? I mean most if not all OTR shows from the 30s, 40s, 50s... have been recorded in mono format. Please share the software used and any additional plug-ins I would need to upscale some of my favorite OTR shows to stereo (For my own listening pleasure of course.) Thanks.
How to contact BlindTunes support?
Hello, I'm now having all sorts of problems with BlindTunes. First the newest build of iTunes seemed to have broken something. I get a weird scripting conflict when trying to use BlindTunes in conjuction with iTunes. Had to uninstall BlindTunes completely to use iTunes. Next I tried updating my PC to Windows v8.1 (In preparation for Windows 10) and now their license server won't accept my registration key at all. I need to contact someone who can assist me in resetting my license key so I can attempt to use BlindTunes under Windows v8.1 - 10 and latest build of iTunes v12. I'm using the latest build of JAWS v 16 (64 Bit) by the way. Thanks.
Accessible MP3 Tag Editor Anyone?
Hello, I'm using the latest build of JAWS 16 (64 bit) under Windows 7 Home edition (64 bit) with a TripleTalk USb synth. I'm looking for an accessible MP3 tag editor. One that will not only create tags for MP3 files based on the filename but rename the files (Capatalize, replace underline with space and so forth.) Can anyone recommend a free or paid MP3 tag editor that is accessible?
Choosing an Accessible Smart phone to Use with SafeLink Wireless.
Hello everyone, Ok, so I'm still sort of living in the stone Age and haven't invested in a Smart phone yet. Well the time has come for me to finally do so now thanks to the price friendly service being offered by SafeLink Wireless. The problem is buying an accessible phone that works with this wireless provider. Been looking into purchasing an Amazon Fire Phone, but I really don't feel I need a $650 item for my very limited phone use. To be honest, I'm looking into this option only to have a secondary means of contacting someone in case my Comcast land line phone goes down (Which has happened a few times and I had no way of calling someone for help.) Please, I know a lot of you guys can be quite disrespectful to people posting off-topic posts to the group, but I don't know where else to turn to for assistance with my question. I mean a phone is an audio device, so I really don't feel this question is off-topic, but I'm not that smart of a person. Again I want an inexpensive Smart phone that works with the SmartLink Wireless service. It must be completely accessible of course for I'm legally blind and can't obviously see the screen. Any suggestions on which direction I should go would be greatly appreciated.
Suggestion for a Good Audio Restoration Program?
Hey gang, Not looking to start up any debate here. Just started downloading some Old Time Radio shows from a well known archiving site, but a lot of the MP3 files have some distinctive crackling/hissing in the background. I know there's a speech friendly audio program somewhere that will remove these artifacts with no problems. I'm using JAWS v13 under Windows 7. I want the program to be very easy to use. Meaning I don't want to have to mess with a bunch of settings to eliminate these annoying pops and crackles. I don't care about the price, I just want the best software for getting the job done right out the box. which program is for me? Thanks for your help. Recommendations for good Audio Based Games?
Hey Gang, Just got me a new Dell XPS laptop, and I'm now looking to install a few blind friendly audio based games. I'm using JAWS 13 under Windows 7 64 bit. I want the game of course to be challenging, but have a wide array of audio sounds which accompanies the game play. Can anyone recommend a website or game for me to try? Question for Owners of the Kindle Fire?
Hello Guys, I'm strongly considering getting a Kindle Fire. Need to know how accessible it is to the blind community. Also does it come with the VoiceOver feature that reads both the menus and ebooks? Had to send back my Kindle DX a few months ago because Amazon for some strange reason left out the VoiceOver feature. If someone owns the Kindle Fire, can you please give some feedback on how accessible it is? Thanks. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
RE: Question for Owners of the Kindle Fire?
Thanks for sharing this info. Well I do enjoy listening to some audio books on my Kindle, but most of the NY Times Bestsellers aren't released in audio book. The voiceover feature allows me to listen to them, without having to wait 4 - 6 months for an audio book. Haven't come across an ebook or magazine that has disabled this voiceover feature (I buy everything through amazon,) but if I do, you best believe the author will get an ear full from me. At 02:58 PM 12/12/2011, you wrote: Hi. I don't know much about this product at all and don't possess one and don't plan to but I did hear a report on a BBC radio programme that was aimed at the blind. It seems that more and more authors are not allowing their eBooks to carry voice over and the reason seems to be, these same authors make a load of money from audio books and if the voice over facility was available on eBooks then they would lose out on sales of audio books. Before you decide to invest I would suggest you go to the Amazon's site and see just how many of the books you would like to purchase are voice over enabled. Sorry my contribution is limited but I thought I should pass on the little I know. Question about the Kindle DX.
Good evening, I just got my Graphite Kindle DX (Free 3G) and love it, but I can't find the Voice Guide option under settings to enable it. Yes, I went to the Next Page and it's not listed anywhere. Please don't tell me they left out this feature for the newest Kindle? I'm using software version 2.5.8. Anyone here using this model of Kindle? If so, how do I turn on the Voice Guide feature? Anyone on the list using a Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device: Free Global 3G successfully? Re: Question about the accessibility of the Kindle DX?
Thanks Mark. That's just the type of input I was looking for. Love listening to audio books, but sometimes you just want to listen to something that's updated on a daily basis (Newspaper, Magazines, Blogs.) At 03:25 PM 6/26/2011, you wrote: Hi The kindle is amazing. As a braille reader and somebody who doesn't particularly like conventional audio books it has revolutionised my reading. Although I was able to do this with the help of the excellent customer service people telling me how many times to move down or up and when to press stuff. The only thing that is totally not accessible is to search for books and download them via the kindle so a 3g version isn't worth it. You should go for the wi-fi version instead. You just go to amazon on you laptop or pc and select your book you can then download it wirelessly which is free straight to your kindle. You can also put other files on there such as pdf but I don't know if these are spoken and audio books from audible.com or audible.co.uk. hope all this isn't too much waffle for you. Creating a playlist in Winamp 5.81.
Hello, I'm having a terrible time trying to create a playlist using iTunes, and decided to give Winamp a try. I've opened up my folder of songs in the playlist editor, but is there a hotkey that I can press that will allow me to add a song I'm playing in the editor to a specific playlist? iTunes does allow that, but after playing 10+ songs, JAWS crashes and the iTunes app becomes very sluggish forcing me to reboot my PC. I just want an easier way of listening to a song listed in a folder of many, and having the ability to add the song to a specific playlist while listening to it. Don't believe there are any hotkeys for Winamp 5.81 that allows you to add a song to a playlist on the fly, but I could be wrong. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Good idea Larry, but say I leave TotalRecorder recording 6 hours... I'll have about a 700Meg MP3 file created. I would need to open it up in TotalRecorder and manually place split points at the start and end of each track. Split them up and hope I know the artist name and title to edit them properly.
