RE: Microphone Picking up Sounds from Headset

2017-11-21 Thread Tim Aune
The best thing to do is turn the headphone volume control all the way up and
turn down the output of your soundcard to where you can just barely hear it.
The micraphone and the headphone run along side of each other and the output
from your headphones are being picked up inductively.

I hope this will help.

Subject: Microphone Picking up Sounds from Headset

All,

I am using a pair of Andrea 205-B binaural microphones. These are earbud
microphones and generally have excellent sound quality. However, when I
use them to record they pick up my screen reader in the background.
Obviously this is very distracting but I haven't figured out a way to
counteract it. What can I do?

Re: Question about a sound card issue - maybe

Try going in to control panel and go to sound link and click on your sound
card. Then go to playback and then to the properties and then the
enhancements tabs and check disable all enhancements. I hope that solves
the problem.

Subject: Question about a sound card issue - maybe

Listers,

Something has been kind of bugging me since I began using this Dell XPS
7500 machine back in march of last year.

It seems to me that the on board Realtech sound card has a
characteristic of making voices sound as if they are cave like,
depending how they are positioned. I think that if they are completely
centered in a stereo version, they sound more reverberous, or as if they
are a bit more in the background than they should be, at least more so
than they sounded with my old Creative Audigy card.

If anybody has also noticed this with either this or any other card, and
have a ready solution to what I at least consider a problem, I would
really like to hear about it.

Guess I can live with it, I have for almost a year, but if it could be
corrected, at least without having to buy another card, in the hopes
that it wouldn't have the same issue, it would be nice.

BTW, my speakers are correctly phased.

Any input or advice on this would be very much appreciated,

Larry

How does one successfully navigate through the many offerings, at Accessible

talking about? I had to arrow down, through the whole list and never got to
the specific numbered podcast that you are talking about, Tim.

Is there a search function, that I did not figure out, yet?

MP3 direct cut would work fine for cutting out commercials. There is a very
good podcast about using MP3 direct cut and audacity in accessible world's

I have heard of and actually have MP3 Direct Cut--probably a very old
version--but am not sure if this program will do what I want, and if it does
I'm not sure exactly how to do this. Is there a good and simple program
which will help me to remove commercials and to then join the file back
together minus the commercials? I have heard the MP3 direct recording but
am not real sure how to make markers, etc., so if someone has an easier
solution I would appreciate info.

Re: Need Help with Sound Forge Pro 11

2014-07-14 Thread Tim Aune
I might suggest using MP3 direct cut for editing MP3 files. It's very fast,
and you don't have to convert the files. It doesn't have a lot of the
features that a program like sound forge has but it is very reliable.

Bob,

These are all very good points. I'd like to explain a bit more about my
earlier response in case it helps Kelly.
I was editing a four hour MP3 file over the weekend, and I was finding
everything to be very sluggish including
moving through the file with PGUP and PGDN. Since I had worked with some
other large files in SF 11 I wondered
what had changed. It turned out that I had generally worked with WAV files
before. I saved my MP3 file as a WAV
file and worked on it in that format and much of the sluggishness I was
experiencing was gone. Of course,
converting an MP3 file to WAV doesn't make it sound any better, but it did
make a large difference in my ability
to move around in the file. It may be my imagination as it is not that easy
to verify this, but I believe that
saving a file takes longer in SF 11 than it did in SF 10 or before, but I
could be experiencing something else, or
it could be the added overhead that you mention. It has been my experience
that heavy file activity can lock out
screen readers or make them not responsive, so saving a file might be
causing the appearance of loosing speech.
Sometimes starting NVDA or Narrator can help one figure out what is
happening.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

every time you do something that causes SF to write out the edited files to
protect you from yourself, it takes time to complete the process.

How quick the process will be is dependent on the read/write speed of your
hard disk. If you are working on a large file, that is to say, 4 or 5 hour
mp3, then it will appear to be slow.

The only setting that you might change is the location of temporary files.
If you use a separate drive for the temporary files, there may be some gain
but that will depend on the read/write sppeed.

And, no, using a solid state drive will not really improve things that much
because the Windows way of reading and writing to disk pretty well negates
any gain there may be in using a SSD.

The mp3 codec does appear to be slower than in SF 6 but you must remember
that the program is doing a lot more processing than SF 6 did.

Opening, editing and saving in wav format may be slightly quicker but you
will eventually have to convert it to mp3.

However, I find that for files of an hour or less the performance is on a
par with SF 8D.

The moral of the story may well be that the Sony people did not anticipate
that SF would be used to edit 7 or 8 hour long files.

Hi,

After recently getting a new 64-bit PC with Windows 7 Professional, I
decided to upgrade Sound Forge from 6.0D (which I've used for a number of
years) to the latest version, Pro 11. However, I've noticed that this new
version seems to be rather sluggish when compared to 6.0D.
For instance, if I have two files loaded, and I switch to the other file by
either using the Window menu or pressing Control+Tab, it seems to take
awhile before I can do anything again. With 6.0D, going to a new window was
instantaneous. There have also been times where I'll be doing some editing,
and the program will seem to freeze for a couple minutes. When this
happens,

I lose speech, but can Alt+Tab to another program, such as WinAmp.
Eventually, everything works fine again, but I find this very frustrating.
If anyone else is using this version, have you experienced these issues?
Are

there any settings I should adjust to make it work more smoothly?

Thanks.

Yours Sincerely,

Re: Connecting External FM Antenna To Tuner

2014-06-12 Thread Tim Aune
It is one of those press on connectors that goes on the end of rg 59 cable.
They also will work with type F connectors. The plug part will work with a
F connector which is threaded. I'm not sure what the RCA look-alike plug is
called but they are found on the little transformers that come with
receivers so you can use a dipole antenna.

Stange Japanese (probably Yamaha unique) connector. According to
a post on another forum, they originally came with their own
adaptors. You might get away with a push-on F connector (bent
about a bit) if the centre pin is the right size.

If all else fails, take the sockets out and replace them with
something more usable.

Hi list,
I’m writing for a friend do have winamp and he uses version 5.07.
Until now it has presented the cd tracks fine, when he inserted a cd in the
drive.
But this functionality has stopped working. Now Jaws only says Artist
unknown, Album unknown and so on.

Any help will be highly apreciated.
He don’t wanna upgrade to the latest version as it has some issues. For
example it recognises all external drives as a portable music player and
wants to add them, which is annoying.
