Re: ripping cd's into one audio track?

2007-12-04 Thread kevin and Emma
hi, i use CDex for this purpose. what are you finding tricky? all i do is
select all tracks with control +a, then hit f10, then tab round to the ok
button and hit enter on that and leave it too it.

Subject: ripping cd's into one audio track?

 Hi all,

I have here a number of audio books on cd I wish to convert to files to
 take
on my audio player. It supports mp3 or OGG. I prefer OGG.

I want to be able to rip the cd and instead of having 20 or so tracks for
each cd I want to have 1 track for each cd. so I have 11 files instead of
 over 300. (SMILE)

What application would give me the best result? remembering that I don't
want to have to join all the files after ripping them. I use CDEX but it
 is
very tricky to do that with.
I also have soundForge with cd arketect but have never used it.

 Any assistance greatly appreciated.

winamp 5.5 problem

2007-11-01 Thread kevin and Emma
hi all, i've recently upgraded from winamp 5.35 to 5.5 and now have a really
irritating problem. before, with 5.35, i could put a cd in the drive, select
play audio cd and it would play the whole cd without a break. however now, it
seems to be checking for a valid entry online via one of the online databases
after each track. if it can't find a match, it stops playing and tells me so
and asks if i want to submit a new entry. i don't mind if this for the first
track, but it does it for each individual track and it's bugging me. how can i
stop winamp doing this? i want it to behave like before, where it would just
carry on playing whether it had a match or not. i've looked through preferences
and i can't find anything that would seem to be an obvious solution.

I did a review of the iRiver on Main Menu four years or so ago. In
that review, I also created a little recording. The review should
still be available in the Main Menu archive. Since I don't record with
the iRiver normally, I've forgotten how I exactly did the recording,
but I still know, that I didn't use Rockbox.

 Hi.
What do you mean by the serial?not sure about that? the only serial
number I know of is a number that's found on the box of the package
when you get it, and it's usually used to register your product.
and in case anyone's doing searches for it, it's actually called the
Creative Zen Stone, no key in there.
If by serial you mean the model number for it, there's really only
one model and it's 1 gig, so unless you get something else, that's
what you'll get. I've only ever seen the Creative Zen Stone in a 1
gig model, so I believe that's all there is.

The procedure for listening for games is the same as last season.

Here is the multimedia link John referred to:

 mlb baseball Multimedia Guide
 http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mediacenter/index.jsp

This will show you the current day's games with links.
Click on the link and you will be then prompted for your userid and
 password.
Supply them and enjoy the game.
And, for sake of correctness, the subscription price for the same is
$14.95, and spring training isn't free but is included as part of your
 2007 subscription.
And once 2007 is over, save this multimedia link as odds favor it being
 usefull in 2008.

Have you noticed that if you go to cd connection to buy a record
 www.cdconnection.com
or you are a member of music now you can't listen to samples anymore?
They give you a file to download which you can't use or they want you to
open a file that windows can't open. I buy stuff from them and you can't
check out songs by listening to them anymore. It really makes me mad.
 Any suggestions? Kurt

would need a conversion program is to convert programs that have already

I would like to state two things here. Firstly, if you are going to have
a
filetype, it is best to leave it as it is as transcoding of a file is
 rather
annoying because artifacts can be introduced into the compression
algorithms. Secondly, why would one have .rm files in the firstplace?

because that is the format the BBC tends to stream it's audio in, and so
that is the format produced by replay AV when recording such streams.

I would like to state two things here. Firstly, if you are going to have a
filetype, it is best to leave it as it is as transcoding of a file is
rather
annoying because artifacts can be introduced into the compression
algorithms. Secondly, why would one have .rm files in the firstplace?

Why would anyone have RM files? Perhaps because there were media files in
this format on some site; some radio stations have archives like this, for
 example.
As far as I know Goldwave doesn't support Real Media format, at least 4.26
doesn't, haven't tried newer versions. Anyway, there is a program that can
record Real Media into WAV at least, then you can convert the WAV into MP3
 of course.

 Kevin,

I use Replay Converter from Applian Technologies

 http://www.applian.com

to convert .rm files to .mp3 files to play on my Book Port. These files
result from capturing programs from the BBC with Replay A/V and retaining
them in their native format on my computer. The program is now included
with Replay A/V version 8, but I suppose it can still be purchased
separately if format conversion is all you want. As has been pointed out,
some quality is lost when converting from one format to another, but all
of
the programs I am dealing with are mostly speech, and they sound fine on
the
 Book Port.

and in this case, a slight loss of quality isn't going to matter. i'd rather
have them as .mp3's so i can play the files in any player, rather than .rm

can i use them on my mp3 player.

purchasing replya A/V problem

2006-11-16 Thread kevin and emma
hi all, i want to buy this program after listening to jonathan mosen's
review and using the demo version. however, i've run into a major problem
with the vendors purchasing process. as i understand the set up, you can pay
via paypal, or using a credit card. the only credit card i have is american
express, which i tried and the site rejected (no problem with my am exp
account i checked to make sure). but i'd actually prefer to use paypal, but
i can't do that either. when i try using the paypal button on the
billing/payment page, i get an error message saying i haven't entered a
credit card number etc. well of course i havent! i want to use paypal! am i
missing something obvious? or have others had anything similar happen to
them? i've sent an email to their customer services but who knows when i'll
get a response. smile.

hi. Is it possible that for some reason the paypal site just didn't
recognize your credit card? there should be a spot where you can
 enter that information manually.
I can't remember where since it's almost been a year since I bought

the

The slider moves in 1 percent increments. Apparently there is no way to
change it unless you could somehow use a mouse to slide the slider.

real player oddity

2006-10-04 Thread kevin and emma
hi all, this one's got me totally stumped! it relates to mlb.tv. i guess a
few people do the same as i do and when the mlb.tv media player opens, i go
to properties, copy the URL of the feed, copy this into realplayer. this way
you can use the seek command among other things when listening to archives.
now for some reason recently, using this method, i've been unable to listen
to the stream using realplayer. basically i get the feed ok, but it sounds
like realplayer is playing two copies of the same feed about a second apart.
i've switched to using window media player to do the same job, but i can't
get it's seek command to do small jumps! i've tried all i can think of to
get realplayer to play the feed properly, but nothing seems to work. what am
i missing? or is this normal for realplayer these days! if someone can help
i can send a sample of the type of nonsense realplayer is coming up with. by
the way, this doesn't happen with any other audio feed i use, but this is
the only live video feed i use.

Re: real player oddity

2006-10-04 Thread kevin and emma
hi tim, erm you've lost me. i wasn't blaming anyone for anything. in fact, i
actually prefer using realplayer, hence my frustration with the problem i
have. are you saying it's a deliberate ploy by mlb.tv to scramble the feed
when people try and use realplayer to play the feed?
i've no idea if it's an mlb.tv problem, or a realplayer problem as i don't
know anyone who has experienced it. i just want to know if anyone knows why
realplayer seems to be trying to play two copies of the same feed out of
sync, making it unlistenable too.

Blaming real networks for a policy that MLB has adopted is not the thing
to
do. I asked the MLB why it was so insistent about making their content
unplayable by Real. It seems to be a battle between Microsoft and real.
It's funny, but most of the techs I talked to at mlb.com preferred it when
they could access content with Realplayer. It seems that Realplayer is
more
accessible to sighted people than Windows Media.

a software recorder to do all i want?

2006-08-12 Thread kevin and emma
hi all, hope someone can help with this one as it's bugging me! smile. i
used to use recall pro as my audio recorder. 2 problems here, 1. for some
reason it always cut off the end of my recordings, this could range from a
couple of seconds to almost half a minute, depending on the length of the
recording. 2. recording in mp3 format, 56kbps, 22050hz seemed to be the best
quality it would record at. so i dumped it in favour of total recorder.
however, total recorder seems to have one failing compared to recall pro. if
my computer crashed during a recording (which occasionally happens), when i
restarted, i found recall pro had saved the audio i was recording upto the
point the system went down. unfortunately, total recorder doesn't seem to do
this. if the pc crashes, bye bye to anything currently recording.

this happened today when iwas out. 5 hours of recording down the drain! if
i'd been using recall pro, i would have saved those 5 hours when i had to
restart the pc. but it'd have only been at 56k/22050hz quality, and i'd have
lost some of the recording at the end.

does anyone know if it's possible to get total recorder to save intemitantly
whilst it's recording?
if not, then how to stop recall pro chopping the end of my files off and to
record in a higher quality?
if not any of the above, anyone suggest a program that will save my
recordings occasionally while recording?
i'm using total recorder professional 6, recall pro 1.4 beta 14. i've got
goldwave 5.13 and soundforge 8D already.

any help would be really appreciated on this one!

hi, depends on what format your phone will accept. if it'll take mp3 or .wav
etc, then any sound editor will do the job. i use a nokia 7610 which will
take both. i use mp3 myself as they're smaller than wav files.

hi, i don't use the gameday audio, only mlb.tv. but if you go to the

luck in finding them anywhere on the page. Is it me or is it them?

Well, no go. Monday Night I could at least access the individuals buttons
in
the MLB media player with Mozilla. I'd click on them and nothing would
happen. Now, I can't access them, the webpage looks the same in both
Mozilla
and IE. I will keep trying though. FYI a sighted friend of mine clicked on
the FF over the phone at his house and you could hear everything going in
fast forward mode, but even he had trouble hitting play and having the
damn
thing stop exactly where he wanted it to while he was fast forwarding to,
if
that makes sense. He'd hit something and it would always go back to the
 beginning.

People have told me--maybe on this list--that there was a way to open MLB
files in Real Player. Is there?? I strongly don't think so but as my X
wife has told me many times before, I can be wrong.

 Chuck

hi, if you go to the scoreboard link near the top of the page, you can

no idea about the game day feed, there is a link labelled audio on each

 Hi.

The site Dean gave does work, but I have two complaints about it, one I
can
live with, the other MLB.COM needs to fix.

The one complaint I can live with is the table on the site is quite
cluttered. It looks like you get all the different forms of the broadcast
including TV, highlights and audio. I can figure out what I need, though,
so I can live with this.

The thing I still have a big problem with is the archives aren't
available.
I like to hear games of the past week or so, and the way things are now, I
can't do this. If you feel the same way I do, keep telling MLB.COM of the
 problem.

 Thanks, Dean for the info.

Well, I just think it could be better like it used to be about 3 or 4
years
ago. I'd be willing to pay a few bucks more for better audio. It was a lot
better about 3 years ago when Real Player was the vendor. Obviously if you
compare it with AFRTS it's better than that. My argument is in this day
and
age it could be a lot better. Even the College Sports dot com audio is
better than the MLB audio. I go back to AFRTS audio when they played tape
delay games during the day, way back before satellite. The Fast Forward,
Rewind, and other buttons haven't been very accessible for blind folks
since
they dropped Real Player. Sure, anything is better than AFRTS my point was
just that I've heard many Windows Media free services over the phone that
were much better. When the crowd noise cuts out between pitches sometimes,
NO that's not better to me. I don't want my baseball games coming over a
Vox
effect type of audio. That's good for ham radio, but not sports.

  Hi.

Well it looks like the Gameday Audio page has been updated. According
to
it, there are now links to both the Away and home team feed. Each link
still says Audio, but it appears the away team feed is first.

As far as the sound quality, I think many of these feeds are received
over
phone lines. Those that are gotten off a satellite, if any, I don't
understand why they don't sound better. I won't complain, though. I
also
remember listening to good old AM, and in fact did so last year when I
was
in Lexington, KY. It's amazing how a station in Cincinnati fades out at
night. I'll use Gameday Audio when I can. It's decent enough for me.

I had a lot of crackling with Eloquence when I got this new computer and
it's onboard Realtek sound chip. This was fixed by two driver updates.
To
bad Creative isn't as good with updates. You would think by now they
would
 understand text-to-speech.

I understand it shouldn't make a difference if you are using AMD or

It is the motherboard chip set that is more important. There is info

  Hi,

I get some slight clicks and pops from my Audigy 2 card when moveing
  quickly
through things or typing quickly but I think you can't get rid of every
single pop and click on JFW. I think part of it may be the low sample
  rate
of the speech and its being upsampled to 48khz for output from the audio
card. I tend to just ignore it. Now on my other system I have a SB
Live
value card and it has a lot mor noticeable popping and clicking on it
and
  I
don't prefer it at all and will probably replace it with an Audigy 2
Value
  card in the near future.

I'm currently running into problems with the Creative Labs X-FI card.
It
seems that when ever Windows makes a sound while JFW is speaking, there
  will
be a popping noise at the beginning of the sound. I'll also get a
  crackling
noise from JFW when arrowing fast through a list. I'm also getting this
crackling noise when I've got the Open dialog on the Screen in Sound
Forge, and I'm arrowing down through each item in the list to see which
  one
I want to open. Plus, when I tap the spacebar in SF, I'll get the
popping
and crackling at the beginning of playback. Is anyone else having any
problems with this, and has anyone found a fix for this? I've been on
the
phone with Creative, and tried everything they've suggested, but there's
been no joy in Muddville. I thought by going all Intel this time on my
  new
system for the processor and chip set, I'd avoid the problems of the
past,
but I'm running into problems all over again. Plus, this card wasn't
one
  of
the cheapest ones on the market. So any help would be greatly
  appreciated.

How does one go about remapping these menu colors to JAWS?

It really amazes me how FS will let things go, as well as leave the same
bugs in JFW from version to version.

It may have to do with the colors in which the menu choices are

JAWS6 in fact. Some clever person came up with a remapping of menu

And if ever you find out how to make FS sit up and take notice of
program changes so they fix their scripts or environments or whatever,
please let us all know how you managed it, because I've got a whole

 Hi Steve,

Well at least on this end, there's no joy in Mudville. I downloaded and
installed the latest version, and using both JFW 4.51.131, and the demo of
JFW7 (still waiting on my upgrade to get here), JFW just says menu bar,
and won't speak anything when trying to up or down arrow through the
menus.
Are there any settings in Nero that need to be configured? Using the JAWS
cursor, I can see that the menu is down, but normal navigation isn't
working. Well I guess it's back to V6.

Let's be honest, for a long time we all got lots of good music for

.avi to dvd format

2006-01-30 Thread kevin and emma
hi all, can anyone recommend a program to convert .avi files to a DVD
compatible format? so they can be played on a dvd player? i've tried a
couple which do all the converting, set the chapters, video ratios etc etc,
and will then burn the results, but haven't found one which is particularly
accessible with jfw as yet.

Re: .avi to dvd format

2006-01-30 Thread kevin and emma
hi, just took a look. based on the features listed, it's not what i want. i
want to do the opposite to what this software does. namely, i already have a
video file on my hard drive in .avi format and i want to convert and burn to
a dvd to play on a stand alone dvd player. clone dvd seems to do the
opposite to what i want by taking programs off a dvd disc on to the hard
drive.

I suggest anyDvd from http://slysoft.com which works with cloneCD to
convert a dvd to the desired format on the HD. I tested it and it seemed
to
 work real good.

I think I may have given you misleading info Kev and I'm sorry. I believe
that dvd decrypter may do what you want. Perhaps someone else will have a
thought. I haven't done this to much so I'm not sure which tool will be
the
best for this job. I have quite a number of tools on this machine for
 different jobs.

not for nhl.com you don't. i wish in some ways they'd look at that. nfl.com

were introduced. nhl.com is light years behind those too so far as online

Subject: Confused about Iriver model numbers

 Hello,

I was fascinated by Jonathan's review of his Iriver using Rockbox.
However, I would like clarification regarding model numbers. I have
not met with much success when searching for Iriver h140. Are there
other numbers or perhaps a hyphen in the model number? When searching,
I sometimes find an H10, and I don't know whether the 10 refers to a
ten gig unit or whether H10 is an entirely different series of players.

My thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this.

 Don Roberts

2005-12-15 Thread kevin and emma
hi, just listened to the review. very nice article, extremely useful. it's
the first time i've actually heard rockbox in action. my only disappointment
with it from what jonathon said, was the recording settings, and the fact
.wav seems to be the only option while using rockbox. sorry if i
misunderstood that bit, but that's what it came across like. apart from
that, they seem to have done a marvelous job so far! good on 'em!

I have the older IHP120 and, once I find what I'm looking for to
listen to, it's a fine machine. The one-button control is a bit of a
bear, though. Press it once this way to go this direction, press
twice to skip by file; press it once the other way to go in some other
direction, click the center portion of the button to do some other
thing ... madness. If I could just memorize what does what in which
direction, I'd be OK, but what I think it should be and what it is are
unfortunately two different things! Good luck with the 340. at least
it'll have more buttons than the 120 does.

hi jonathan et al, good choice. i bought my iRiver ihp120 a year ago and
haven't looked back! from reviews and articles i've read all over the net
over the months, iRiver's players seem to be about as reliable as you can
get! another reason why i bought one. very accessible, ability to play .ogg
files, has a line out, behaves like an external hard drive via usb 2.0, no
nasty, fancy inaccessible software to fiddle with either! ... that's the
one i have by the way, i've not used the h340. but if past experience is
anything to go by with iRiver, you've chosen well.

 Hello there.
I own and use a creative jukebox the original player. I am able to use
most
functions of the player but the software that comes with it is horible. I
am
an experienced jaws user and I don't mind fedling around with inaccessible
staff but this was a lot more problematic.
I think the same happens with the zen line of units. You can't see them as
another drive in windows explorer so that you can copy folders to it.

I would have bought a zen instantly if it wasn't for the software
interface.
Now I will get the iriver h340 instead.

 Nektarios.

 Subject: NEW PANASONIC VIDEO RECORDER

  Hello all!

A friend of mine has just told me about a new Panasonic video hard
drive recorder that's just come out, it has an Ethernet connection
which allows it to be networked to a computer or other video
recorder, a 400 gig hard drive and can record multi formats such as
MP3 etc, the built-in DVD drive will also record. My friend works at
Panasonic and may be able to get a unit for me to try, would any list
members be interested in my findings?

As yet, I haven't been able to study the manual but I'm told that the
recorder features a html interface similar to those found on say the
Linksys Wireless Gateways or Hp fax devices, this interface allows
the user to edit chapter titles, playlists of recorded material and
I'm told, set menus and functions of the recorder itself and its this
last point that I'm personally very excited about for if it is indeed
true, then it means that the unit will be accessible and we can
bypass the displayed menus on the TV screen etc, not to mention
getting the full functionality that connecting a video recorder to a
  comptuer can provide.

Distortion is all but impossible to remove, since distortion is a part of
the sound and not simply a component that can be filtered out.

I have been trying to access BBC Five Live Sports for the last hour or so
without any result.

Is this station perhaps only available for listeners in the UK?

I tried a couple of games, , while I didn't have a choice of connection
or
player, the quality beat mlb.com hands down. And they seem absolutely
determined to put out that bad quality. I remember hearing games on A.M.
radio stations back in the sixties that came in on phone lines that
sounded
better than mlb.com's audio this year. I didn't think it could get any
worse than it sounded last year, but they fooled me. If I was MLB.com, I
wouldn't claim ownership of that quality. I don't expect cd quality or
anything like that, but they can do a lot better than they're doing. I'd
even consider paying some more money for the better quality. They've
proved
they can do better. Just listen to the clips they have from MLB TV.

hi all, this program works fine except when i try to open a file within it,
say for example to add to an existing recording. if i try opening a file

a variety of errors saying something like: cannot access the system codec
for this file, or cannot handle bitrate or format for this file. we are
talking mp3's here and i have no problem playing these files in winamp, WMP,

 Hi all,

Over the past couple weeks and especially the past three days, I have been
experiencing trouble using Major League Baseball's Gameday Audio.

Here's what I've been doing to listen. I will go to the Gameday Audio page
which I have saved as a favorite. There I will select the link for the
radio
station broadcasting my team. Then I have to log in, entering user
name/password info. Once I've done that, a window pops up displaying the
MLB
media player. The problem I've been encountering is that the audio just
simply won't begin. There are no errors. So, I tried to change my settings
by going into the preferences section. Here I selected the second radio
button which I believe chooses the MLB media player, then saved my
changes.
Still nothing. I returned to preferences and selected the first radio
button, which I believe is Real Player. When I saved that change, the
audio
began ... for about five minutes, then a real player dialog comes up
telling
me about a time out of some kind ... network difficulties and all that
jazz.

This sequence of events has occurred numerous times for me over the past
couple weeks, and the latter part of this week I have been unable to get
 anything going.

Anybody have any ideas for me?

 Thanks,
 Scott

I am thinking of getting a new computer soon. I would like to run two
sound
cards, as a replacement to the double talk PC internal I won't be able to
use in the new system, so I still have the benefit of it which is to have
speech on its own channel. The local computer shop said the best way is
to
use something like the Audigy 4 USB that costs $299, but it does
everything
most anyone would want a sound card to do. I'd prefer using something
internal, but they say I'd get driver conflict with it, unless I want to
spend a lot more on the cards. Are there any good cards that I can run two
of in XP that won't conflict? I just heard in a Ebook I listened to that
USB
sound devices introduce latency, so you hear stuff at a delay, which for
blind gaming, could be quite bad.

sound card problem +recommendation

2005-06-13 Thread kevin and emma
hi all, i've got 2 sound cards in this system. a SB live card for playing
mp3's, streaming audio etc, and a turtle beach santa cruz card i use with
jaws, because the SB live card causes eloquence to crackle like mad!! this
morning everything was fine. then this afternoon, we installed a new power
supply in this system because the old one was dying on me. all seemed fine
afterwards, except now, the system will not recognise the santa cruz card at
all! i've tried swapping PCI slots with a PCI/USB card i have and the system
saw this card fine, but no matter which slot i put the santa cruz card in,
the system will not see it! anyone got any ideas? i've tried everything i
can think of, removing the card and it's drivers etc, reinstalling the lot,
even did a system restore to yesterday to see if i'd done something, still
no joy. i've tried putting the santa cruz card in my older windows 98
machine and it picked it up as new hardware immediately. i'm at a complete
loss! the system just says the PCI slot the card is in is empty!
also, if i'm unable to sort this problem, then it means a new card! i like
the SB cards and as it's only for jaws i woulnd't want to spend a fortune on
one. but i'd need one that doesn't crackle with eloquence. do any of the SB
live cards not crackle with eloquence on WinXP?

hi, this is using jfw and it's how i do it. i make sure real player is open
on my pc. start the stream via the mlb.tv website as normal. when it
starts, make sure your in the player frame (about half way down the page),
and hit the key for the right mouse button, top row of number pad, second
from right. this should bring up a menu, arrow up or down to properties and
hit enter on it. this should bring up a dialogue with stuff about the
stream. for me i usually land in the length of file field. tab across to
where it gives you the URL of the stream, hit the end key to make sure your
at the end of the URL, then control, shift and home to select it all, copy
that. then alt and tab into the open real player. control +O for the open
dialogue, paste in the URL, tab to ok and hit enter. then quickly alt tab
back to the mlb media player window and alt +F4 it. the stream should start
in real player and you can use real player's usual functions, including the
seek to command to skip large parts of the audio.

hope that's helped, any problems let me know.

Subject: figured out mlb archives to real player

i have figured out how to change the player to real player when
listening
 to
archives in order to be able to fast forward. the problem is when it
opens
real player nothing happens and i can't get it to play. somebody on the
 list
a couple weeks ago posted how this works but i can't find that post. if
anybody has any success with this and can tell me how to get real player
 to
start playing the game i would really appriciate it very much. thanks.

Re: game day audio and WE

2005-04-09 Thread kevin and emma
hi tim, i've discovered my problem. launching realplayer is causing my
system to restart more often than not. i can get into the context menu on
the mlb.tv media player giving the option to use realplayer now but then my
system restarts. i've tried using rel player independently and the same
happens. so it's a real player glitch i'm having not a mlb one. i've removed
it from my system and will try a new download and installation. if that
doesn't work, not sure what next as i obviously need real player installed
to use mlb in the way we've been discussing.

Try this. After you hear that the audio has started try hitting the tab
key
until you find a button. I don't know what jfw says when it hits a
button,
but you probably will know. Then, however you do it in jfw, route your
mouse to the pc cursor and right click and arrow down.

Tab

mlb.tv archive problem

2005-04-08 Thread kevin and emma
hi all, is there anything different i need to do to listen to archived games
from mlb.tv, compared to live games? i ask as i'm able to listen to live
games no problem, but i can't get archived games up and running. the player
window appears and all looks fine, there's just no stream! no error message
either. what could be different with this than live streams. i'm trying this
late afternoon UK time, so late morning east united states time, so there
shouldn't be any problem! my subscription and log in details are obviously
okay or i couldn't access live games. any ideas anyone? windows XP, jfw 4.2,
sygate firewall running, but doesn't make any diffence if i uninstall it.
and the gameday radio streams seem to work okay both live and archived.

If you're using real player to play the streams, you may have to switch to
windows media player as your preferred player because I don't think mlb
archives the broadcasts in the real media format. Try that, and see if it
 works! Good luck!

Re: game day audio and WE

2005-04-08 Thread kevin and emma
hi again, i've managed to sort it for live games. well something curious
now. this is to do with live games on mlb.tv. if i go to the context menu
when in the media window, i get the options to play in real player and also
to play in real player theatre mode. the problem is, if i select either of
these, it causes my PC to restart itself. i've tried this about 5 times just
now and same result. any suggestions as to what's going on?

Re: scheduling a recording, best software?

2005-02-27 Thread kevin and emma
hi jerry, i deliberately set it to go into standby on this occasion. i was
away for a week and didn't want to leave the pc running unattended for so
long unnecessarily. i was hoping letting it go into standby when not
recording would do the trick, but apparently not! smile.

Kevin I don't know if it would help but perhaps you should go into
your
Power Options and set it so that your computer can't go into Standby.
I've
always found Standby to be flaky.

 Hi Peter,
 Oh really. lol
That's probably because they are music databases. grin

I don't know wich is the better of them. I know freebe did come online
later
then the other cddb but honestly I don't know if one is better then the
 other.

Re: DVD Playing

2005-01-22 Thread kevin and emma
hi, i've noticed this same thing in just about any player i've tried! i too
have fiddled with every volume control i can find and it's no better. i have
noticed though, if i rip the audio from a dvd, the volume of the resulting
mp3 or which ever format, is much higher than it was when just playing it.

When I play a DVD movie I notice that the volume is somewhat down. Is this
normal? I have had a poke round through the configuration menu and there
doesn't appear to be a way to increase the volume either in Nero Showtime or
PowerDVD.
Cheers

 Greetings!

I'm sure we all remember the Sony walkmans cassette player? Well you would
have
thought that Sony's dominance in this feeld would have continued into the
 computer age, apparently not.

I've just read about Sony's new product which they claim will rival the
Apple
Ipod, if Sony truly believe that the IPOD is threatened by the new Sony
wonder
then I suggest they think again.

It is accepted as STANDARD PRACTISE these days that the consumer should
be
able to download MP3 files and transfer them to a portable device (as MP3
files) but Sony's new walkman player doesn't follow this simple principle,
you
need to use the supplied software to take the MP3's from your computer,
transfer them to the walkman unit and then have them converted to Sony's
ATRAC
compression system. Yes, you can transfer MP3 files to the walkman units
hard
drive leave them there but that won't do you any good as they cannot be
played
in native MP3 mode, what an absolute waste of time.

Conversion takes 3 minutes per file so speed is a big problem here, with
the
Apple IPOD, its just a matter of using the ITUNES software supplied to
transfer
the MP3 files from your PC or download them from the net, that's the end
of the
process and they're ready to be played instantly.

Another problem with the new Sony Hard Drive walkman is power, the only
way
this beast can be powered is from its power cradle which plugs into the AC
mains outlet, the IPOD can be powered in a variety of ways including from
a
computers USB port but none (to my knowledge) have car adaptors available.

 Hi,
The only thing you have to check is the jumper for deciding weather it is
supposed to act as the master or the slave.
But setting the jumper wrong will just make the drive not visible to the
system, so then go ahead and try it in another posission. Normally slave
is
in the middle and master is either to the left or right of that.

 Best regards
 Brian

Kevin, Russell and others. If you would like I can post the order of
the internal menus and how they go for your reference. I've had this
unit as I have said for well over 6 months and absolutely love it. It
really is easy to use and everything you do from the unit directly can
be done from the remote as well.
