RE: 5.1 stereo amps to connect to a sound card
Well, the Creative labs ones I've seen on Dell's site. As for what else I've been looking at, well here's the thing. Now I have the companion 5 system from Bose, and don't get me wrong, I love it, but I'm blowing passed the the PC speakers and going for actually home theater systems you would typicly use with a TV. So, I've been looking at things like Dain's 7.1 system from Yamaha, the one I really find interesting is the YHT895. I've also looked at Onkyo, and dephinately Bose. I just love the Lifestyle V35 from Bose, it's $3000 though. Only problem with them is Bose refuses to go 7l.1. That's also why I asked people like Dain on this here list once if there really was anything to 7.1. Because if there is, then I may have to get a system frome some one else other then Bose. If not, well, we'll see. So yeah, I'm blowing passed the internal sound card, or any sound card for that matter, and going for the HDMI port on a graffics card. So, I don't know you tell me, if you want an actual home theater system, then stick with me. Now for those that love the Z5500, not bashing it, I've never heard it to be honest, it's just since that is the case, I don't want to put my self in the situation of buying something from say Amazon for instance, and then not likeing it, and going threw the night mare of returning it. That's all, so, same goes for Yamaha too. I've never heard a Yamaha system so, I'd love to hear one before buying one. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Frank Ventura Sent: Thursday, July 05, 2012 6:48 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: 5.1 stereo amps to connect to a sound card Any links to any that may be recommened? RE: 5.1 stereo amps to connect to a sound card
I know you guys are talking about using the analogue audio on the sound card, but don't forget, if you do happen to have an actual surround sound system like I said before, you can use the HDMI port on your graffics card. But if you aren't really picky about it being actually 5.1 sound, in other words, if you aren't too big on having 5 actual speakers around you, you can always use the Bose Companion 5 Multimedia system. I have it, and I love it. I mean, I would rather use their Lifestyle V35 system, but I can't get one too easly, it's $3000, and I sadly don't have a graffics card with an HDMI port on it. Yeah, I'd go HDMI. I'm done with analogue. Oh yeah, and some systems like Dain's Yamaha one also have that SPDIF connecter too for those that have a sound blaster card. I think it does any ways He can correct me on that. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Robert Logue Sent: Monday, July 02, 2012 12:29 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: 5.1 stereo amps to connect to a sound card I bet you are trying to use your computer as a surround audio system. RE: 5.1 stereo amps to connect to a sound card
Actually Creative Labs, the guys that make the Sound Blaster cards make some systems too. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of goshawk on horseback Sent: Saturday, June 30, 2012 9:11 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: 5.1 stereo amps to connect to a sound card first off, to the best of my knowledge, a single stereo jack, or 2 RCA plugs, are not going to carry a full 5.1 signal, as you would then be asking a stereo connection, normally for 2 speakers, to carry a 6 speaker signal, which is what 5.1 is. it needs either 3 stereo jacks, 6 RCA plugs, or a digital connection. the only thing I can think of that comes reasonably close to what you are looking for, is the logitech z-5500 speaker system. it doesn't have all the ins and outs of a full home cinema amp, but does have 2 digital inputs, an analog input on 3 stereo jacks, and it does have a single stereo jack input, which you could try using, but I personally doubt that you will get full 5.1 through it. a few other points of this system are: 1. the controls and connections, are mounted on a remote wired pod, which is ideal if not a lot of space is available. 2. apart from the sub, the speakers are quite small, but still give a very good sound. and 3. apart from the sub, all other speakers can be stand or wall mounted super easily, thanks to there swiveling stands. it also has a remote control. the only thing I had to say against the system, being a bit of an audiophile, is that it could have been supplied with better quality speaker cable. apart from that, it is a very good system for those who haven't got room for, or who just don't want all the bells and whistles of a full home cinema amp. for example, I got mine after a move gone wrong, when I had to downsize a bit, but still wanted a decent 5.1 sound system for my tv. and like I said, apart from the not very good speaker cable supplied, which I changed, I have got no complaints. hope this helps. One other thing you can say about the Z-5500 is that in the world of electronics where models come and go frequently, it has a long sales life.
