RE: Anyone have the IRiver SlimX 550 player?
Hi, Steve. You said You might want to update your firmware. From the IMP 350 and up, we are now able to listen to ogg vorbis audio files. This also applies to the IMP250 http://www.iriver.com/company/news_view.asp?idx=368 Also note that the Rio Volt SP250 can be updated with IMP250 firmware and can, therefore, play ogg like the IMP250. See http://www.geocities.com/cryophil/RioVolt_FAQ.html there is a small software hack which you need to perform on the iRiver firmware before upgrading the unit. Hi Gordon, You might want to update your firmware. From the IMP 350 and up, we are now able to listen to ogg vorbis audio files. The 350's current implementation isn't complete because of limited space in the flash memory, but the 400 and up should support just about every ogg file out there. I don't own a 400 or 550 so can't confirm this. The IMP series, as you said, is very cool and plays much better than the Riovolts. Hi there. You couldn't do any better than the slim x 550. It rocks! I Had the same riovolt, and I still have it, but my little boy knocked it off of my treadmill, and so it got to where it wasn't as dependable. I bought the Iriver imp-550, which is also known as the slim x 550, and I have never been more pleased with a cd/mp3 player. I have not upgraded the firmware, because the only update they have for it so far is just more languages, or something like that. Anyway, I'm sure someone can explain it better, but just know that if you like the sp250, you will absolutely love the Iriver imp-550. The battery life is much longer, and it will automatically recharge the batteries. It does resume right where you left off with up to ten cds, and as far as how it reads, I find it to read much better than the sp250. If I've left anything out, you can e-mail me off list if you'd like. One thing you might need to know is, that the player itself has no buttons, so you have to use the remote. If you like the sp250 remote, you'll love this Iriver one as well. I love to pass it on when I find something I think is great for us blind users, and this is indeed one of those products. Re: Anyone have the IRiver SlimX 550 player?
Hi Matthew, Yes, the Iriver SlimX line seems to be nearly identical to the RioVolt SP250 functionality, so there should be little to learn aside from the new remote control configuration. I went from an SP150 to the IMP350, and the adjustment took only about twenty minutes. Stephen Clower, that guy from the south. Hello, is there a learning curve, much to relearn, or can you just use existing knowledge and start using the player right away? Does it have that click click hold feature to skip folders like they do in the player that Michael Lang reviewed on Main Menu? He reviewed the 150. Thanks a lot. Matthew Tired of Hotmail? Hello, the remote control for my RioVolt SP250 is wearing down as far as the wire on it goes, and will soon break. I don't like the circfle joypad that the player has, so I've always used the remote. I suppose I could put dots or labels on the joypad to mark where to press, but only if I have to.
