I am not a jfw user so I don't know about the scripts. As to the
audio meter, I haven't had a chance to do some work with it yet,
school and personal obligations. However, there is a nice little
blurb about it in the help file. Some of the combo boxes were hard to
read the headers from, but maybe they don't have to have headers and
are context sensative. So the short answer is, no I haven't had time
to play with it. Seems pretty usable though from the brief overview I
gave it the other day. If you're a window-eyes user, it's important
to reclass the custom controls in the meter window of the control
properties so that they are buttons, saves you a keystroke or two.

Re: GoldWave Version 5.65 is now Available

2011-12-13 Thread JM Casey
Version 5.65 seems to work fine on XP so far. However, I'm afraid that the
scripts may not function very well anymore as they are pretty old. Guess the
layout has changed a bit. GW isn't as verbose as it used to be, but as far
as I know all keyboard commands are native so the loss of script
functionality should only be a minor inconvenience.

Well, the audio meter isn't quite useful in this version. What I was
aiming for was a tone that would let you know if your levels were
getting too hot. This is more of an indicator, but it's a start, it's
the foundation of what I'm initially after.

Here are the changes in this version:

New audio I/O for Windows Vista/7
Improved support for M4A files (Windows 7 only)
New Open URL command (Windows 7 only)
Support for VST plug-ins (still in beta testing)
New Stereo Center effect
Artwork in File Information
Redesigned Batch Processing window
USB HID foot pedal support
New Tone Meter visual (audible volume level meter)
New Copy From File edit command option in Batch Processing
New recording button for one click recording
Many, many other minor improvements, features, and fixes (see
WhatsNew.txt for detailed
list)

Important notes:

VST support is still in beta testing. More feedback is required.
With the exception of a minor update or two, this will be the last
version of GoldWave for older versions of Windows (XP and below).
Version 5.70 and later will require at least Windows Vista.

All versions of GoldWave including the latest should work for you. I use
NVDA and up to now GoldWave is working very well with it.

Hi Colin and all.
According to the release notes, this is the last version to work under
Windows XP. GoldWave 5.70 or whatever they next call it will only work under
Windows Vista and Windows 7. I do not use Windows XP myself, so I am going
from the release notes somebody has posted a few days ago. I'm sure GoldWave
will make this clear on their website or even in the program itself.
Hope this helps.

2011-12-11 Thread Dave Bahr
I am not a jfw user so I don't know about the scripts. As to the
audio meter, I haven't had a chance to do some work with it yet, school
and personal obligations. However, there is a nice little blurb about it
in the help file. Some of the combo boxes were hard to read the headers
from, but maybe they don't have to have headers and are context
sensative. So the short answer is, no I haven't had time to play with
it. Seems pretty usable though from the brief overview I gave it the
other day. If you're a window-eyes user, it's important to reclass the
custom controls in the meter window of the control properties so that
they are buttons, saves you a keystroke or two.

Re: GoldWave Version 5.65 is now Available

2011-12-11 Thread Dave Bahr
Tim. To which time are your referring? Occasionally I have issues where
the start and finish markers will not read in their respective edit
boxes, but that seems to be a flaky thing. If I recall, the we goldwave
scripts haven't been updated in awhile. in fact not since 2008 so I'm
not sure if it's the scripts. they seem to just have basic edit label
functionality, more verbosity really.

2011-12-11 Thread JM Casey

When you say sound the same, I assume you are talking about volume?

You can do this using the match effect in the volume processes list. I
haven't tried this myself but I'm guessing it works by comparison, and you
can choose the optimal volume based on the file that you feel has the
correct amplitude. Someone might correct me on this, but GW help should fill
you in with all details anyway.

audio meter in goldwave was goldwave version 5.65 is now available

2011-12-07 Thread Dave bahr
Alright Gang, I see how the meter works and it should do what we're
aiming for. Below I have pasted the help section on the tone meter, but
I need to say something first about the properties button. I use
window-eyes and had to reclass the custom control as it is, according to
the class box, an image button. Once you click button for the class, all
of the buttons show up properly as properties buttons. I'm not a jfw
user but I assume there is similar behavior? If you're not sure how to
do it, routing your pointer to the control just after the tone meter
selection combo box and left clicking will get you into the windows for
each meter to be set.

And now, as promised, here is the help page for the tone meter. I'm
having a bit of trouble with some of the combo boxes to read their
titles, but I haven't as yet played with this tone meter as I write
this. Please don't hesitate to email me offlist and I can pass
suggestions on to the developer.

Tone Meter Properties
Location: Right-click, Properties command on Tone Meter visual in
Control
 window
The Tone Meter
visual plays a tone and displays a solid colour based on the peak
amplitude of the

waveform.
Shared
playback quality must be selected to allow the visual to generate tones.
The properties include settings for four tiered tones. Each tone has a
different
trigger level, frequency, waveform, and colour. The level value sets the
upper limit
to trigger the tone. The tone is used only if the peak amplitude is
below or equal
to the given level. If the peak is above that level, then a tone with a
higher level
is used. Each level must be higher than the previous level, so the
trigger for level

2 must be greater than the trigger for level 1, etc.
Tones are played at a fixed interval. Tone interval
changes the time between tones. By default a tone sounds once a second.
Duration sets how long the tone plays. Volume
changes the volume of the tone.
Sound tone only when Scroll Lock key is on
provides a quick way to turn on and off the tone by using the Scroll
Lock key on

the keyboard as a toggle switch.

I gave Chris the idea of the visual audible meter, I'm excited to try it
out. Thanks for posting this.

Here are the changes in this version:

New audio I/O for Windows Vista/7
Improved support for M4A files (Windows 7 only)
New Open URL command (Windows 7 only)
Support for VST plug-ins (still in beta testing)
New Stereo Center effect
Artwork in File Information
Redesigned Batch Processing window
USB HID foot pedal support
New Tone Meter visual (audible volume level meter)
New Copy From File edit command option in Batch Processing
New recording button for one click recording
Many, many other minor improvements, features, and fixes (see
WhatsNew.txt for detailed
list)

Important notes:

VST support is still in beta testing. More feedback is required.
With the exception of a minor update or two, this will be the last
version of GoldWave for older versions of Windows (XP and below).
Version 5.70 and later will require at least Windows Vista.
