MP3 Direct Cut Question
Hello list: As the subject line indicates, I have a question concerning MP3 Direct cut: let's say I want to take a part of a file and make a new file out of it unto itself; can this be done? In other words, I may have a whole file and there's a section of the file I want to keep, but not the _whole_ file; will MP3 Direct Cut do this? Or do I have to just record the part of the file I want, using something like Total Recorder (or another recording program) thanks for your responses in advance! Re: MP3 Direct Cut Question
as I recall, that program isn't that accessible. What I would do is to put the file into goldwave, mark the section you want to cut out and then do a save selection as. hth Dave c. bahr On 7/15/2011 10:56 PM, Tom Kaufman wrote: Hello list: As the subject line indicates, I have a question concerning MP3 Direct cut: let's say I want to take a part of a file and make a new file out of it unto itself; can this be done? Re: MP3 Direct Cut Question
You certainly can. Use the B and N keys to select the beginning and end of the part you want, then hit Control+E...I think. Anyhow, if I was wrong about the actual keyboard shortcut, there is a Save Selection in the File menu, and you can use this to save a part of a file to another file all of its own. ~Ann HeyTell: tate...@gmail.com Skype: tate886 Google Voice: 1-872-222-8799 http://www.fanfiction.net/~mauryn On 7/15/2011 10:56 PM, Tom Kaufman wrote: Hello list: As the subject line indicates, I have a question concerning MP3 Direct cut: let's say I want to take a part of a file and make a new file out of it unto itself; can this be done? Re: MP3 Direct Cut Question
actually, it is quite accessible, and you can edit MP3's without having to uncompress and re-compress them. It can also record directly in to MP3. Just look for the list of keyboard shortcuts in either the help menu or in the manual, itself. but, if you need to do any fancier editing, such as noise reduction, click/pop removal, time stretch etc., then you need something like Goldwave. ~Ann HeyTell: tate...@gmail.com Skype: tate886 Google Voice: 1-872-222-8799 http://www.fanfiction.net/~mauryn On 7/15/2011 11:03 PM, Dave Bahr wrote: as I recall, that program isn't that accessible. Re: MP3 Direct Cut Question
Dave: For what use I've gotten out of MP3 Direct Cut, it is pretty accessible; I must admit I haven't tried to use all facets of that program (I've only used it to remove parts of an existing file) but am thinking it may do something I want to do; just figured I'd ask and see if I'm right in thinking that it will work in this way! Thanks for the response! Re: MP3 Direct Cut Question
well cool. I love being wrong because that means I can learn from it. That's good to hear it's accessible, maybe i'm confusing it with another program, I have a lot of audio editors on this laptop for my job so they all get blurred together in one shape shifting mass of sonics. Re: MP3 Direct Cut Question
Ann and list: Thanks; will give it a try and let you all know how it works out! MP3 Direct Cut does work well for removing parts of a file that you don't want; I even thought maybe the control-E thing was the key stroke I wanted, but thought I should write and see if I was correct! Thanks again! Re: MP3 Direct Cut Question
Hi, Tom, Yes you can easily do this. Find the beginning point of the section you wish to save, press the space bar to stop playback, press the letter B. Then find the end point, stop playback and press N. At this point, you can fine tune the location of the beginning point by pressing the numbers 1 and 2 respectively for moving this point forward or backward. Move the end point with 3 and 4 respectively. These are the numbers on the top row of the keyboard and not the number pad. You can listen to the audio around these two points, use the F5 and F6keys to hear the few seconds of audio prior to and following the beginning point, and F7 and F8 to hear audio before and after the end point. When your satisfied with these locations, press Ctrl-E to save this section. You can edit the original filename to whatever you want it to be. MP3 Direct Cut question
Hi all, I finally got the enc.dll file properly installed. I even created several tracks out of an mp3 file that was initially a single 46 minutes in length. May I say a resounding yes! Then I tried to split an mp3 file that says it is 82' 04.17 minutes long. When I clicked on the Save split option under the file menu, I got an error message that said something like: 'Not possible! No edit range is present.' How could I fix this so I can split this long file into several 5 min tracks? Thanks, Johnny To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Re: Quick mp3 direct cut question
The way I move to a spot in a large file is to: press Ctrl + P This brings up the edit box with the total time of the file and the current position indicated by elapsed time. You can edit the elapsed time data to the time you wish to jump to then press Enter when your ready to execute it.
