Progress Report: Latest Project The Remix Mini

2016-01-19 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

The Remix Mini is an Android Desktop computer, I purchased one with a view to
turning it into a Media Centre if I could.

Unfortunately getting some sighted assistance to help set it up took a little
time however we were able to start work on the machine last night and here are
some preliminary rusts from testing.

I’m only gong to talk about the audio aspect of the Remix Mini here but even
there there’s plenty to talk about and the machine will sit at home quite
nicely amongst your AV gear, in fact for $50 its possibly a bargain of you’re
prepared to spend a little time setting the device up and perhaps doing a
little customisation to get things working exactly the way you want.

The first thing that needs to be done with a new Remix Mini is for the setup
process to be completed and this must be done by someone with sight
unfortunately.

During the setup process you will be asked about your Wi-Fi and network so the
Remix Mini may connect and download updates to the Android operating system and
other Apps.

After the setup process and you’ve typed in your Google account information for
access to the Google Play environment - that’s part of Android itself - you’re
read to go and install Apps to your hearts content or for as much as your
memory will allow and the first you’ll want to install most likely is Talkback.

My Cousin has been setting my device up for me and I chatted using Skype with
him this morning using the Remix.

Various things have been tried including Netflix which worked very well I’m
told and streaming to and from the Remix using a Wi-Fi network.

So now to the specs and a basic description.

The Remix Mini looks like an oval pie with its back edge more like a
rectangular edge rather than the oval for the rest of the device and its here
you find all the connections such as 2 USB 2.0 ports, SD card slot for up to
128GB cards, Ethernet port, Power port, HDMI port and headphones jack.

The Remix Mini will connect to either a 2.4GHZ or 5.0GHZ Wi-Fi using A/B/G/N
Protocols.

Bluetooth 4.0 is also part of the bundle so no problem listening to your
Bluetooth speakers from this device if you so desire.

The Remix Mini has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage which can be expanded via the
SD Card slot.

I’ll next write about the Remix Mini when I have it here on the desk in front
of me or perhaps it might be more appropriate to write from the couch in my
lounge room as that’s where the Remix Mini will be used.
