Re: Have Lost Windows Sounds

2013-02-24 Thread Tom Kaufman
Hi Gary: Thanks for the response; as you'll see during the thread, I've
tried what Rebecca has suggested (provided I understood the instructions
correctly) it hasn't helped as I'm still not getting any Windows sounds:
email sounder, start-up and shutdown..etc! Hopefully there's an easy fix
for this problem! Thanks for your indulgence!

To see if you have the windows sound scheme selected go to control
panel and find sounds and audio devices. Go to the sounds page and
there is a combo box where you can select the different sound schemes
for your computer. It should say windows default. If it doesn’t, just
press the up or down arrows until it does. Then tab until you find the
apply button and the okay button. Hope this helps.

Never mind the treeview, its a combo box you want with the various sound
schemes -- the treeview is for adding or changing which sound goes with
which event.

Okay..I obviously am doing something wrong, for what you guys are trying to
tell me isn't matching up with what I'm seeing here; I can open a combo box
and can get to "Windows Default"..but then when I tab, I'm getting a "save
As" button! So I try to "save it"..but it tells me that I cannot save as
"Windows default"..and I _do not_ see an "apply button! HELP!

Tom,

It appears you landed in the right area of the control panel, followed by
the sounds manager. As Rebecca suggested, once you land in that tree view,
arrow either up or down until you hear Windows default. I think that's the
right term, and it's the one Rebecca mentioned. Once you have that spoken,
which is to say focused, tab to the Apply button and press spacebar, then
tab to the OK button and press spacebar again.

I'm assuming you have XP. I'm using Win7 and so can't go through the
process

myself anymore, but Rebecca's instructions remind me of exactly what was
needed in XP.

Oh, I'm not using Jaws 14 so not sure if there's anything different.
To answer your previous question, there is a tree view but you only
need to navigate it if you want to change the windows sounds.

To see if you have the windows sound scheme selected go to control
panel and find sounds and audio devices. Go to the sounds page and
there is a combo box where you can select the different sound schemes
for your computer. It should say windows default. If it doesn't, just
press the up or down arrows until it does. Then tab until you find the
apply button and the okay button. Hope this helps.

If it doesn’t, just
press the up or down arrows until it does. Then tab until you find the
apply button and the okay button. Hope this helps.

there is a treeview (I don't do well with treeviews) sorry if I'm making
this harder than it's supposed to be! Like I stated earlier: this area of
