RE: which sound editor?

2013-10-16 Thread David Bailes
Hi,
just to add that Audacity has a bass and treble effect which works the same way
as bass and treble controls on an amplifier. It also has an equalization
effect, which includes some preset curves.

David.

the speed change but in your case it's unfortionate because it's SF Pro.

Hello. Which editor provides not only equalizer functions but also speed
adjustment? I don't mean speed correction for making something read faster
like an algorithm for speed reading, but one which will change the pitch as
in the case of old cassettes running a shade too slow, etc.
Also, equalizer functions to brighten up old tapes as well is needed.
Does wave pad, and the cheaper version of Sound forge, (is that sound
studio)? and Audacity? do that?
thanks!

I thought you were the ' go to ' guy, on this, especially as it relates to
Sound Forge? At least, I have some notes, that you gave me, eons ago, on
improving things, on cassettes, using Sound Forge? Someone else would have
to chime in, concerning Wave Pad and Audacity, but, there are a lot of
tools, in , at least, the full versions, of Sound Forge, are there not,
Curtis?

2013-10-15 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

GoldWave will do exactly what you want.

You can use the pitch function, it has presets to move up/down a semi-tone,
octave, you can fine tune even more. the equalizer works well and the whole
shooting match is around $50 for a life time licence.

http://www.goldwave.com

I have just checked and the version being used here, V5.69, is the latest.
Mind you, I am using WindowsXP Home, maybe the update function recognizes my
o/s and only tells me of versions able to run on my system, so if you are
using Windows7 or Windows8, maybe there is a later version.

Yes, I know SF, I am actually asking for a friend about the other
editors which have some kind of equalization and the ability to change
the pitch of worn cassettes.

I have been using SoundForge6 as my editor of choice for commercial
broadcast work for the last few years. I find it very much up to the task
of producing broadcast grade high quality production. With that said you
must have the Jim Snowbarger jaws scripts to take full advantage of the
SoundForge feature set. The scripts are available at
www.snowmanradio.com.

It is worth the $30 cost of the scripts. I haven't played with GoldWave
much but I've heard equally fine work produced by people who are more
familiar with it. I've looked at the features in subsequent SoundForge
upgrades and have found that they don't seem to be worth the upgrade price
for what you get. I hope this helps.

A bit more information might help.

1. Are you looking for a multi-track environment, or do you not care about
that?
2. Do you plan to put music under your voice?
3. What, specifically, have you tried to do with Goldwave?

 Greetings all:

I currently own the latest version of GoldWave, Studio Recorder, and Sound
Forge 6. I am doing some snazzy (I hope) promos to use during Main Menu.
I've never done broadcast-quality promos before and find GoldWave barely
up
to the task. In terms of both accessibility and quality, should I live
with
GoldWave, use SoundForge 6, or spend the money to upgrade to the latest
version of SoundForge? I want opinions. Thanks.

Re: Which sound editor to use?

2009-08-08 Thread Jamie Pauls
I decided to go ahead and spend the $134 to upgrade. I do wish to do
voiceover work. I would like to use some really nice reverb and possibly
other sound effects with my promos. Occasionally when editing content for
Main Menu, I find that some really nice noise reduction would help. I've
always found that to be a bit tricky to use with either SF or GoldWave, but
I suspect Sound Forge has some better tools. That is the scoop. I bit the
bullet, bought the product, and we'll see what I think. I figured the
upgrade price might not be around forever. Thanks for the feedback.
