Accessible DVD Software.

2006-01-04 Thread Jim Noseworthy
Hi Folks:

Is there a preference between WinDvd, PowerDvd and Windows Media as far as
accessibility is concerned?

Is there other options out there? I've tried VLC however, I find that the
program is not that responsive.

Thanks all over the place gang.

No, there isn't any more than there is one for CD burning programs. As
with those, you'll find that people swear by what they use.

It should not make a difference how your DVD's play, even if you have an OEM
Power DVD. VLC doesn't care about that.

existing codecs from your system to play DVD's.

One neat feature is found under the audio menu. It is a channel option.
For example, if I put in the DVD Ray, I have four channels. Channel 1
 is
the movie with no DVS. Channel 2 is the movie in French. Channel 3 is
 the
commentary from actors and directors. Channel 4 is the movie with DVS.

VLC Media player will play most anything you throw at it with no problems.
The only drawback is you can't switch cards with the player. It uses the
default card you have for sounds.

I don't know what you mean about decryption there. I decrypt all the
dvds that I get from any source and play them with no problem with power
dvd or windows media player.

Ah, it's when I hit play, it keeps repeating the theme of the movie over and
over. I guess dvd's have their own menu system you need to choose play off
of. When I hit play off the apps menu option, it usually repeats the theme,
or does nothing. Using media player instead does about the same. If one
found a good ripper, could play files in winamp, where I know it'd play all
the way through, and then just delete the files when completed. It's the dvd
menus the author of the disk created, I think is the issue. They have it set
up in a music loop until you do something.

launching them in win explorer, but it makes audio breakups,
decryption

Subject: ACCESSIBLE MP3 PLAYERS

Hi all

I realise this question has been asked many times before, but I need some
current info.

I am looking for an accessible MP3 player with good sound quality. It
must

also have a reasonably large storage capacity.

I realise that with todays menu-driven units nothing is completely
accessible, but what is the best options regarding MP3 players that are
presently available on the market?

Also - and this is just out of curiosity - do all these small MP3 players
have the same sound quality?

Regards

If you set your default media player to either Real Player 10.X or Windows
Media Player 9.X and of course I assume you have a DVD drive, you should be
able to access the menus from the keyboard.

Hi Jim, long time no speak. . . . I'm using PowerDVD 4 and having moderate
success. I've upgraded to Media Player 10, on presumably good advice, and
I'll try it today. I've asked the list for an opinion on the accessibility
and general utility of PowerDVD 5, but so far no responses. I'm going to
look at the Roxio site for an upgrade to run my DVD writer, and see if
anything they offer has potential.
