 choose open file or add files to playlist, .wav is not available when you
 have all supported types chosen under 'files of type. ya have to choose

Open Winamp and hit ctrl-p for preferences./it should land you at File 
Types, but if it doesnt, tab till you get to it.  It is a list box and you 
just check the ones you want and uncheck the ones you don't want Winamp to 
play.
