 Hello Dean,

On Wednesday, July 12, 2006, 7:47:50 PM, you bellowed the following:
Patrick, can you elaborate on what changes you make to the
configuration on an xp system to improve the performance of the
 winamp Direct Sound plugin?

 Well, I can't remember everything I did, as it's been a while since I've
actually configured it. I just keep my winamp directory around and throw
it onto any machine I need as it doesn't *really* have to be installed
as long as file types are registered, and you have a shortcut somewhere.
I did disable the fade on seak, fade on stop/pause, and I think I also
adjusted some buffers along the way.

On the fading tab in the Direct Sound plugin configuration,
double-clicking on the option you want to toggle will do just that. Why
a single-click doesn't work, I don't know. It would seem the loglca
thing to do.

Windows XP natively supports Direct Sound. It's far less resource
intensive to use Direct Sound Vs. the wave out plugin, and besides, the
DirectSound volume control is far more responsive and smooth.

True, it's just rather unresponsive about itself.
I've found that the Direct Sound output plugin works far better under

Re: razing volume in winamp?

2006-07-11 Thread Dana S. Leslie
However, finding and setting the output device selection drop-down in the
Direct sound Output Configuration dialogue is a bit more difficult than in
the Wave-Out configuration dialogue. It requires use of the JAWS cursor, to
find the drop-down, and then routing of the PC cursor to the JAWS cursor, to
select from the drop-down. This shouldn't be a problem for experience JAWS
users, but may well be for novice users. Of course, this is only necessary
if you use a different sound card for your winamp output than your Windows
system default output device.

options than wave. Direct sound also takes up less CPU, I think or it might
be the other way around. I use it exclusively.

Dean, incorrect.

The direct sound plug in does it independently of the screan reader, so far
as i can see.

Raising the volume in Winamp has nothing to do with JAWS scripts, so
it does not matter which screen reader you use. Up arrow does
it. Also, in order to set the volume independent of the screen
reader volume using software speech, use the wave out plug-in and on
some systems you have to use the alt method for the volume which is a
setting you find when you configure the plug-in.

The up and down arrows change the volume; however, I think it's a jaws
script that really does it. That means you'll be using jaws and the current
scripts.
